The Wasabi Place reviews
49Great food, great service. Would highly recommend the unagi don, duck sofa, kingfish ceviche.
Came for a staff party a while back. Food was good and creative. Staffs were attentive. 10/10 would come back
Simple Japanese themed decor. Staff were friendly enough, albeit silverservice is not expected for a suburban restaurant/bistro. So, all good.
Food is simply fantastic. So much better than some of the (more expensive) offerings down Glenferrie Rd.
We had pork tonkatsu (fantastic fulsome broth, generous pork portion),
smash Buri (an unusual disassembled nori roll option that has the best flavoured rice we’ve ever had - seriously! We’re not being effusive.) and
sashimi sushi platter (generous number of portions and very fresh fish).
Could not have asked for better food. It has replaced our previous favourite down Glenferrie Rd - which had changed hands and gone down hill. We definitely will be back again - and again.
I ordered from Uber eats and asked them to leave a note for my boyfriend who’s in hospital. I also used to live nearby and the food never failed to be good. So cute and sweet!
A perfect fine for a local Japanese restaurant. The tempura was light and fluffy. Would definitely come back again
Good choice of food and drinks for a little shop. Prices are average, but quality is great, one of the better Japanese cafes in Melbourne. Lunch time is always busy. Takeaway sushi rolls are popular, 3 rolls with miso soup is only $12, bargain! Soup ramen with seared beef is my favourite.
One of my favourite local Japanese restaurants that have an extensive menu and such tasty dishes. I’ve enjoyed both their hand rolls and sushi roll with crab and salmon filling. I’ve also tried the grilled eggplant with miso sauce which is so yum and a must try. They use fresh ingredients and I am always satisfied with my meal.
Modern, innovative, fresh Japanese food. Exquisite sauces and terrific presentation. The service is also very good and the staff are always very welcoming. The best Japanese restaurant in the area!
Great menu and service but unfortunately the food was way to salty for us. The tempura laid in salt flakes, I’m not sure why especially when the dipping sauce was already so salty. The sally bao was so salty I couldn’t eat any of it. The tempura batter was too hard and my husband couldn’t eat any of it. It’s a pity because we really wanted to love this place.
The food was good and they were busy, but it would have been nice to get the food together. Two of our grop had to wait 15mins after we had finished
Solid Japanese foodie spot. Good selection of dishes, good value as far as Japanese food goes. Staff weren’t the friendliest on my second visit but it was a busy day.
Came here again for a second time to celebrate a very special occasion. Ordered the "ramen from hell" again - it was perfect the first time; the second time was overwhelming spicy and unedible. It tasted like literal hell. It felt as if someone poured an entire bottle of Cajun spice and chili flakes onto my ramen. It was clear that there was a lack of consistency regarding the spiciness of this dish. Some helpful advice would be to add a "spice/heat scale" onto the menu so other customers like myself are aware on the spiciness/heat of this dish.
Overall, customer service was exceptional and serve times were fast, but this dish was a massive letdown which ruined my night.
Hopefully, other customers don't encounter the same experience i had with this dish at this restaurant.
We now live near Lilydale in the outer east and we make every excuse to dine at Wasabi Place whenever we drive anywhere near it. The food is consistently amazing and the owner Ren is a gracious host.
We can't wait for our next meal

I've been coming here regularly since they opened (have had at least 20 dinners). Extremely good value, fresh and delicious, with excellent consistency - never varies, always great. Their sushi is often a little different - slightly more elaborate than many places, with a slight tilt towards spicy garnishes. Agedashi tofu delicious. It's a small, casual place, with very few tables for dining in. Shines as a take-away. Highly recommended.
The atmosphere is lovely, and the food is amazing! Perfect for a first date, or for lunch on a cool afternoon. Overall, 10/10. Definitely coming back soon:)
Ordered at 6: 50pm, 8: 30pm still nothing and no contact or update. Might as well wait another 20 mins, makes it 2 hrs, that's reasonable right?
How about not accepting orders you can't fulfil.
Honestly one of the best Japanese restaurants. 10 times better than Nobu. Nearly every weekend I force my boyfriend to take me there. We order the kingfish and octopus every time. Staff are very friendly. Just a good vibe.
Stumbled upon this little place and absolutely loved it! Managed to get a table on a Saturday night around 7pm. It was fully booked but they placed us by the door (which can get very cold) but after 5 minutes, we got a free table.
The food comes out super quickly and exceptionally well. The sushi platter is $58 and it's such a generous platter. Loved the chicken katsu curry. It had the right amount of spice. The beef tataki was delicious as well! The portions are thick slices as well - so good!
Just great food and service. I can see why they take bookings. It fills up really quickly. Will go back for sure.
Food is so delicious! One of my favourite japanese places, the meals are always great and fresh. I recommend the crabby bao!
