The Village Melbourne

The Village is a reliable and awesome accommodation but you need to get rid of your awful security guards. I’m a regular who’s been supporting the Village for over 3 years and I’m appalled by the treatment me and some of my friends have received at the hands of one of the security guards working. You shouldn’t bother people resting or just catching a nap on the upper floors. Life is tough you know? Who are they harming?
After 14 hours waiting at the hospital and arriving at the Village I fell asleep by accident and was treated appallingly by one of your guards. I woke up to him grinning and standing over me and mocking me. Security guards should serve to protect guests from sexual or fellow guest violence and go above and beyond to make sure guests and non-guests both have a memorable impression of the Village. ESPECIALLY regulars! Tell your guards to value your regulars as the income stream they bring is invaluable!
Reception is great and go above and beyond to help and value regular and seasonal guests. Security staff should be trained to do the same to ensure lasting crucial customer satisfaction.

Very small dorm for 50$ per day, extra charge for locker 10$ per day, people stealing food in the kitchen, kitchen very dirty (people doesn't clean), check in waiting time: 30 minutes, on check in they write down your kredit card number, so they can transfer money from your account all time if u do something wrong, Saturday night is party in the hostel so u cannot sleep until 3am - music inside very loud and people screaming on the street, location is good!

If I was to sum up my stay in a word it would be dissatisfying.

The room I stayed in was a 6-person dorm and made me feel very claustrophobic due to a lack of floor space, tightly packed bunk beds, a window that wouldn’t open, and an awful smell in the room (see below for image of room).

The spring mattresses were uncomfortable to lie on and the bedside socket was awkwardly positioned half way up the wall, making it difficult to position your phone when charging.

The kitchen, like most hostels was crammed at peak times, with very little space in fridges, kitchen utensils were satisfactory.

The best part of my stay was the gym, which is nicely kitted out with Rogue squat racks, dumbbells up to 30kg, an assault bike and sled push.

There are many issues which are needed to be fixed. One of them all is the long standing queues. Other one is the delayed checkin and check out. Next is the DJ which sometimes runs till late night. People cannot sleep.

Great staff, great location. Recommended if you don't care much about the chance of encountering weird roommates.

Staff can come across rude and unprofessional. They do not take complaints seriously and are one sided and the place is female privileged

I spent 3 weeks at The Village
A perfect place to know people and a special thank to Carlos, Chilean guy at the reception for his service, for being kind, polite and friendly.

The village really surprised me by the high standards in the rooms and the stylish interior. Only improvement would be curtains on the bed. Besides that it met all minimum requirements I have to a Hostel (solid beds that don’t squeak, bed lamp, 1 socket per bed, bed curtain and storage room for luggage) and only 2 hostels in 5 weeks Australia met that. I was super satisfied and would def go back.

Went to the club / "den" underneath the backpackers on a Saturday night. Belter of a sound system down there, good vibes, good crowd.

Went there for vacation during a solo trip, loved the city and the location of the hostel. Thank you Carlos for your recommendations and for being so nice! Definitely coming back

Well it was the worst, it never said on the add on wotif that it was a back packets. We just wanted a nice place to sleep after we saw a show. (We are 60 years old) We got no sleep whatsoever, kids everywhere, on couches in hallways bags everywhere to avoid tripping over, we felt unsafe!
Talking, yelling, fighting, snoring ALL night at out room door, could here the next room people snoring, it was a night from hell and would never return, wouldn’t recommend unless you like getting no sleep!

Had great time in Melbourne spent lot of time with hostel! Some fun with trivia and tiggy teaching places in Melbourne! Love Australia hopefully back soon

Our week long booking was denied because we didnt have a passport or drivers license. Despite having several forms of valid goverment issued photo ID there was no flexibility. This was not made clear on the website and as part of the booking process. The info is buried in the policies section but is not made clear, showing a complete disregard or care for people and their safe housing. This info should appear as a warning note at time of booking, before confirmation, not as something you are only told when you turn up to check in. Very upset and just lucky we could call on a friend, or would have been literally on the street that night.

Before I checked in Ian at reception brought my luggage in the premises, a lady at the bar showed me exactly where to buy coffee. I needed to change beds and Ian said don't worry we're here to help you. This level of customer service is fantastic and unfortunately it's rare these days. My bed has an electric port to charge devices. The room is clean and has an ensuite. The hostel is close to transport and Victoria Market. Ian and the staff are the best customer service staff I've seen in a while. I give them 10/10.

I made a double-booking by mistake, but the receptionist negotiated with the booking company for several days.
It was not easy for the booking company to help us, but the receptionist helped me until the end. And I even got a refund successfully.
I appreciate it very much.

Absolutely terrible place. Rooms are filthy, and very cramped. Plugs in the rooms don’t work, WiFi is down for half the day. It’s not a comfortable or friendly atmosphere at all. But worst of all the staff here were horrible, Carlos working at reception was terrible, rude and unhelpful with everything. It’s due to him that I’m writing this review, that’s just how bad he was, otherwise I probably wouldn’t bother.

The front office staff Carlos was very unhelpful and unfriendly. The service is bad and the rooms stink and we have to make our own beds and pay $13 for a towel. It’s quite possibly the worst hostel I have ever stayed in.

Amazing!
It was very clean I’m really fussy about the clean stuff but in this case, it was different cuz the The staff and the people around are so kind and CLEAN.

Also, it is so close to all the tourist places I walked all the time.
I love this place.

I came to Melbourne with 10 friends from Sydney and this place was lovely. The guys from the reception were really nice and friendly. Everything was beautiful in decoration and rooms were very clean. We'll definitely be back here

3 years ago I didn't stay in a hostel because there was always something I didn't like, but I can say that The Village is the best place to be in Melbourne. The rooms, kitchen and all spaces in general are very clean, they make me feel at home.
The staff is awesome, very cheerful and they welcomed me very well, always concerned about me and my friends. The games room and gym are excellent, I will definitely return!
