The Usual Joint reviews
49 Waiting for food now. Came in and told there was a limited menu so only this and that etc was available…. The real conundrum was being told we can’t eat in only take away. The place is huge… and we’ve been waiting where we would’ve eaten for twice as long…. Why can’t we eat in? Strange behaviour.
Haven’t got food yet, might be nice but atmosphere wise… avoid. Go to Macca’s.
Finally tried out the usual joint (honestly im very surprised i didnt try this out when their cream puffs were doing really well during the pandemic)!
katsu chicken curry rice bowl
- the chicken was delicious
- fried so well
- the curry too was spicy but tolerable
- the egg was a bit interesting and not in a good way
- but besides that, hoenstly one of the best katsu curry’s ive had
- $18.5,9.5/10
beef bulgogi rice bowl
- the beef was not stringy enough tbh but it had a lot of flavour which was alright
- kinda reminded me of bibimbap due to the similar elements?
- not that memorable in my opinion but it’s yum
- $18.5,8.5/10
tofu soba noodle
- tofu is bland as oh my lord there needs to be more dressing or some type of seasoning because wow
- the noodles were delicious though
- salad was alright too and i liked how there was a lot of seaweed salad as that’s one of my favs from Japanese cuisine
- $18,7/10
fries
- $9,9/10
- can’t fault it, like it’s fries that is well-seasoned too, what can i say
lychee crepe cake
- very delicious like idk what they did but the cake overall was infused with lychee flavouring which is amazing
- more lychee pearls and lychee pieces please!
- $12.5,9.5/10
pandas swiss roll
- flavours super intense which is nice but yeah that’s pre much it
- $7,8.5/10
service though: : : please, it’s not that hard to be attentive to ur customers.we asked for water 2 times and the waiter instead of grabbing the water for us, decides to go speak to another waiter that is ‘on break’ for 5 minutes and then basically forgets about our water request.we had to ask again and one of the waitresses finally gave it to us.it’s not that hard to do better with service like come on.even McDonald’s is more attentive.
My reward to myself after visiting Sunshine Private Hospital. Good food and coffee for morning tea, lunch, or an afternoon snack.
Stopped by for breakfast and ordered the tonkatsu curry rice bowl and the wasabi mayo prawn sliders.
Both dishes were flavourful and service was friendly and quick.
I really enjoyed the prawn patty, it was very juicy with a crispy texture, so it was easily the highlight.
Coffee was on point, strong and smooth.
All the staff I saw were young adults, which is great to see, made me feel older than I'd like but they run a fine cafe.
Would come back again.
The coffee is great, staff are wonderful and the Cream Puffs are divine. I have found my new local favourite.
Small local business doing great things!
I drop by occasionally to grab a coffee and cream puffs and I have never gotten disappointed. Good variety of flavours to choose from and the coffee is consistently great. Highly recommend!
We came all the way from the east side to try your lunch meal and desserts today. The food was really good
The food is absolutely amazing. We ordered mini sliders and they were very juicy and also a little bit crispy where needed. Coffee was on point and so is that matcha milk tea my friend ordered. We tried the cream puff for dessert and it was one of the best I've ever had. The vibe was great and staff are friendly:)
The Usual Joint is definitely worth the drive if you’re not from the western suburbs. Lovely owners and staff serving up hot food, coffee, and desserts. Their iconic dishes are choux pastry cream puffs and crêpe layer cakes. My favourite is lychee and pandan+coconut?
You should definitely pre order if you’re doing a large order as they sell out of cream puffs quick!
Late lunch pitstop, and pleasantly surprised at our find. Easy parking out front, and plenty of space inside for a quick feed.
Order serves of the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice bowl and the Beef Bulgogi. Both wonderfully delish and worth it for the price.
The panko crumb used is something special and gives the katsu an extra crunch. Served alongside a thick and well Spiced curry.
The bulgogi was also lovely, enough so that my partner didn't give me a chance to try any. Take that for what you will.
Got some cakes on the way out. The crepe cake is soft, fluffy, and not too sweet, but a little on the pricey side. There are alot of layers after all!
Will come back again!
Small shop front, easy to miss if you are driving past, but once inside the staff are friendly and the food delicious.
Usual is one of the best cream puffs I've ever tried. Highly recommended for a casual catchup with your family friends or work meeting.
I’m a local and have always driven past this little café but only tried it recently. They specialise in crème puffs but we were there for the brunch. The food and drinks took a while to come out even though they weren’t that busy. The matcha latte was so generously sized and perfectly made. For food, I ordered the soba noodles which were tasty but probably a bit too salty for my liking. The servings are absolutely massive though, so I took some home to finish later.
Unique Asian pastries that pack a punch. Layer cake and cream puffs are the stars of the show, especially the mango layer cake. That is to die for. Cream puffs are absolutely loaded with cream as well, love the matcha, taro and creme brulee flavours.
Great for a local feed. Friendly service and food was fresh and well presented! Outdoor seating would be nice for warmer weather days
The Taro crepe cake with sauce is to die for, not overly sweet n fairly light. Tastes delightful
Took forever to get our food, until we asked where it was and when it was coming, the waitress walked into the kitchen and apparently it was just sitting there. Food was cold and smelled a but funky
A great menu that offers something different. Prices are fair for the fantasyic quality. Drive out of my way to eat here.
The best creme brulee cream puff. Omg drooooool
Are you looking for an Asian Fusion Cafe in the suburbs of West Melbourne? Look no further than @theusualjoint serving Japanese Fusion meals, I had the salmon arburi rice bowl (8.5/10) and the salmon soba noodles were nice too (8/10)
Matcha latte art is so cute
They also serve crepe cakes, the mango was delish. I wouldn't get the lychee crepe cake, it wasn't that satisfying for me. But the mango, YES!
So if you want to feel kawaii, head down here and you won't be disappointed with their creme brulee cream puff.
Note: The meat here is not halal, so opt for seafood or desserts

My daughter spelt the coffee, I asked them to buy another one but the staff didn't let me pay for the second coffee, very welcoming and warm.thanks a lot.
