The Talk Shop - Counselling and Psychology reviews
29Professional psychologist, hassle free appointment, supportive customer service. Highly recommend
I have been with The Talk Shop since 2019 and it has helped me significantly. I think it all depends the connection with you and your pyschologist. Mine is amazing and has great insights.
I had my first Bulk billing appointment today over the phone and will now take them vooa Video Telehealth, which is so much more convenient than in person. Linda was kind, caring, forthright and honest. They matched her to exactly what i need
_UPDATE
had a bad experience with Linda and let them know. They were so helpful and had another Physiologist Cindy for me within a few weeks. Great service and Cindy is professional, caring and understanding. Thanks Cindy
The Talk Shop goes above and beyond all expectations you would have from a Counselling and Psychologist provider.
I have experienced and still do have extreme anxiety and panic attacks, Stephanie is very kind, understanding, the advice is fantastic and her warm-hearted response from her I feel at ease talking 2 her.

Darren is professional, helpful and patient. I have no hesitation to recommend him and talk shop.
Total and utter life saver. The receptionist took the time to explain to me what my options are, and give me the choice to wait for a free session (Bulk Billed - I can't find ANYONE else who even offers this!) or get help sooner with a paid appointment. I get it. I looks elsewhere and the prices are higher AND there is still a huge waitlist.
They gave me a free intake session (other places want to CHARGE for this!) and once I explained to the junior psychologist what my problem was, she said that one of her colleagues could likely help me and I didn't need the most experienced clinical psychologist like I thought I did.
So I booked the appointment and paid for it (it's cheap!), and she was right!
I am now seeing one of the other junior psychologists weekly (no waiting for me, I want to get help!) and she is helping me see things differently.
I look forward to seeing her each week (it's a bit of travel, but sooooooo worth it!) and telling her how much progress I have made since the last appointment.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They literally saved my life.
If you need help mentally, The Talk Shop is the place to go, they are caring understanding and helpful. From a dark place I'm in a great place in every aspect of my life relationships, work, health and work life balance,
Absolutely shocking agency for my clients to connect up with. Reception staff are poorly trained and inept. This agency needs to replace the staff. They are liability to their clients.
This group is probably the most tone deaf and insensitive psychology office I've ever had the displeasure of speaking to. The fact they no longer bulk bill (because of extreme waitlists) is communicated with a sad face emoji on the website. The person I spoke to over the phone only bothered to take my name before proceeding to rattle off 5 minutes worth of fees if I wanted to talk to anyone else. While I understand waitlists are long I would expect a counselling and psychology provider to be just a tad more emotionally in tune when customers are coming to them at times of high stress or depression. Don't bother.
Talk Shop is a capitalistic nightmare- they don’t care about your mental health just your money. I guess I should’ve read reviews first- terrible experience for those of us who need bulk billing. They only want to help those with money. They are raising their prices, and failed to tell me my Medicare card didn’t work when they tried the rebate (waited over two weeks for that $$). They also matched me with a psychologist who is about to go on maternity leave? Sorry but I’m not going to build a relationship with multiple psychologists. Read the room talk shop!
Same experience as mentioned by others, reception doesn't seem to realise they work in mental health. Darlene sounds like a horrible person
I came here in 2019 for mental health support and saw Sandra M. I’ve been to other psychologists in the past and have experienced similar issues in regards to understanding POC experiences. However in this particular instance, the first five sessions the therapist seemed to be empathetic and kind but that seemed to not be present when I spoke about my experiences with racism. After I confronted the therapist about this, i was asked to seek another POC therapist who would understand my experiences better. If your are a person of colour, this therapist may not be suitable as they appear to have no training on any cultural or racial issues surrounding a persons identity and how that may impact their lives and mental health. I discontinued seeing any other therapists here due to the long waiting lists (which is understandable due to the practice being one of very few that provide bulk billing services). The high turnover rate of staff in this institution is also reflective of the service that is provided.
Terrible experience with one of their psychologist! The manager did not bother to ring me even after calling and leaving messages twice! Disappointing.
The staff are horrible. Shout-out to the Practice Manager Cindy and the receptionist. Expect to be spoken to like you're an inconvenience and there is something wrong with you. (Note: there isn't anything wrong with you. You'll get through this.somewhere else)
EDIT: 22/8/20
My therapist called and had been asked to give me an ultimatum: take down the review or else we're done. Imagine a company going through your therapist to manipulate you. Darren Perry, be better.
OK so.you're going to get very different reviews based on which professional you see.
With that said, Dr Darren Perry (Psychiatrist) is fantastic. I think he's an understated/unassuming professional, which IMHO is a compliment/asset in this type of profession. He's helped me a lot, and I'm doing my absolute best to keep seeing him long-term. He gives you plenty of room to talk, and I personally have discovered a lot of insights during our time together.
It's not easy to book in with him, typically with a couple weeks waiting (under mental health care review plan), but it's well worth it.
Vivien's ego is too involved in the process. She seems to want to 'solve' you for her own sense of professionalism. Not the sharpest tool in the talkshop shed!
Horrible. The phychologist was more anxious than I was. She was so insincere and fake.
Felt so much worse after, there was no receptionist it was really weird
