The South African Shop

Just experienced the worst Boerewors that I’ve ever tasted. Had to put it in the bin. What happened to coriander. Apart from that bad meat quality and spicing. The sausage I buy from Coles tastes better but even that would be my last option. Bought Roman cream biscuits found that it expired over a year ago. What a disappointment. The lady that served me can also do with some friendliness and a smile after all you’re providing a service to the people.

Great little shop. Love the people but not sure about the 80% expired foods, but if you don't check then u have a wide range to choose from. Great shop!

I wish they had Four Cousins’ Rosé and other Simba chips flavors. If you’re a fan of chutney Simba chips, then don’t worry, they’ve got plenty of those!

THE BEST BILTONG IN MELBOURNE! The staff are super friendly and the owners are very welcoming. So many great authentic products from south africa! Cant wait to be a regular customer.

Great place to stash up on authentic lekker groceries and goodies, treat yourself to a boerewors roll and red chai. Friendly staff, funky Cafe.

This is a mixed review if there ever was one. The old lady at the front of the store who served us acted like we'd steal and so circled around us like a hawk. The young guy at the back of the store was a jam, smiling and pleasant throughout.
I gues it depends on how bad you want the merchandise, you could overlook the sour- faced woman there.

I have always found the atmosphere in this store to be great from the upbeat music, friendly staff to the vibrant colours and art on the cafe wall. I've always had a positive experience here.

I usually park on a side street as the main road is relatively busy. My main reason to travel here is the biltong it's so delicious I could eat it all day. I also like the drinks and snacks there is a wide variety available. I highly recommend this store.

Love that we have a SA store but all products are past the best before date so the quality is very low. Not sure why they would still be selling it kinda disappointing…

I just took someone who has never really tried South African food, so instead of plonking a plate down infront of them and getting them to taste it I thought start at the start and this shop is the start. Many South African families who now call Melbourne home begin their celebrations with a visit to this particular South African shop franchise because they tend to have a wider range than most others tht I have tried.
I travel over an hour from outer metro western suburbs, over the Westgate Bridge for the flavours I love they also stock beauty/selfcare products to alcohol, and a little curio selection for good measure. There is also a sort of take away for hot food and coffee this is one reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars the opportunity promote South Africa's amazing food has been missed with one westernised option on the menu. The other reason is.if the time was spent to create an environment/atmosphere that encourages people to try some of the many dishes available to create from the very basic pre measured spice blends to the more start from scratch options.
As with all culturally specific shops around it's not cheap but every cent is well spent. $98 today for one small bag of heaven.

Very homely and friendly vibe! The service was beyond amazing, instantly felt so welcome and comfortable. Food was great and I highly recommend the rooibos drinks too thank you for such a refreshingly genuine experience!

Great store to find your South African brands and foods. Excellent butcher too. You can eat in the store if you like. I always spend+$100 when I go. So much to take home.

Hands down the best biltong in Melbourne! They have such a fantastic selection of products at amazing prices. For those looking for a taste of home this is the place to go. Also make sure to try their boerewors too!

I was so excited to visit the store, it has a great variety of things to help with all the cravings from SA. However! Products are expired, at the bargain table and on the shelves, this shop is terrible. If you are selling products that are stale or off, don’t put them on the shelves and sell them at full price.

I love their Toasted Chicken Sandwich with Chips. Simple, filling and delicious. Do try it out and pair it along with any exotic sauces they serve. Would also try out other products from their store soon. Good job guys, keep it up.

Its one thing to have the ability buy things i used to enjoy as a child in south africa. The other is to always receive them with the most amazing service.
The guys in there are always the friendliest and never affraid to help and even thow in freebies here and there.
