My experience at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) was nothing short of a nightmare. I was brought to RMH in an ambulance following a severe fall down a flight and a half of stairs, with my body wracked with excruciating pain. I implored the doctors for help, but my pleas seemed to fall on deaf ears. Instead of addressing my immediate pain, they fixated on a previous spinal surgery from 2008, insisting that my agony was merely muscle inflammation. Their response was to offer nothing more than Panadol, leaving me in agony. Despite promises of a full-body MRI, I was shocked when they only ordered a scan for my neck. It took the intervention of a nurse who discovered complications that prompted a second doctor's evaluation. Yet, my relentless pain in the upper thoracic spine and solar plexus area continued to be ignored. I attempted to convey my family history of aorta ruptures, but it seemed like they regarded my concerns as a mere fairy tale. To compound the frustration, the pharmacist decided to intrusively inspect my father's medications, treating me with disrespect when I dared to voice my concerns. Even my simple request for a medication list was met with a denial and a dismissive response. The nurses recognised my suffering and sought stronger pain relief, but the doctors prescribed nothing more than Panadol and 200mcg temgesic. My pleas to see a doctor regarding my chest and thoracic pains were consistently postponed, offering no resolution in sight. My RMH experience left me in relentless agony, rendering me incapable of working. To make matters worse, other hospitals were eager to refer me back to RMH due to a new address hospital catchment allocation, leaving me trapped in this nightmarish cycle. A subsequent visit to a different Hospital, with more basic facilities, revealed issues that RMH had overlooked due to a shocking lack of care and empathy. I am now desperate for a transfer to a hospital that genuinely prioritises patient well-being. I regret to say that my experience with RMH, particularly its doctors, has left me disillusioned. They have fallen far short of their claimed skill and expertise. Hospitals like St. Vincent’s, The Alfred, The Epworth, and even Western Health outshine RMH when it comes to diagnosing patients. They don't solely rely on machines for answers. It's disheartening to feel like these messages may fall on deaf ears, as it seems that patient care is lacking at RMH. I can only hope that somehow, the service at RMH can be improved to prevent others from going through what I experienced. If other hospitals cannot alleviate my pain and suffering away from RMH, I may be left with no choice but to make a video detailing my ordeal, including all details, and share it on social networks. The overwhelming pain has pushed me to contemplate drastic measures to end my suffering permanently. It's a desperate plea for attention to a deeply troubling situation.

The staff are so kind and they do everything they can to work out how they can assist. Every scan or test to determine what the ailment is. Every level of staff is thoughtful and caring.

You all clearly! Do not have, a caring, kind bone in your spindless bodies, both Royal Melbourne and Womens Hospital, what a disgrace.
This is not a place l will ever ever wish to be if l am ill, nor do l plan a loved one to be in also. I know what your response will be, and yes l have sent my concerns, and now that l have there will be more to come.

One of the lowest hospitals I have ever seen.
They are racist nurses and careless!
I’ve never encountered racism like this.
I was left 8-9 hours in the waiting room to be seen when I went in with a chest pain and migraine, they left me to cry and sit there with no medication to ease my pain.
On top of that when I approached to ask where I was in the que, I was dismissed like I was trash.
No one showed any sort of mercy,
Wouldn’t let my worst enemy go here.

Best doctors and best services. Best ICU wards. Cleanliness at it's best. Good connectivity across.

Dr Ben Dunne performed surgery on my dad who has lung cancer. He is a brilliant doctor and really looked after him. I cannot thank RMH and Dr Dunne enough for the care they provided.

I recently visited the Royal Melbourne Hospital emergency department and wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the care and attention that I received. When I arrived, I was provided with a wheelchair and immediately felt taken care of.

The nurses were all very nice and made me feel comfortable. I was pleased to find that the waiting time was relatively short, and before I knew it, I was being seen by a doctor.

The doctor was excellent - he listened carefully to my concerns and provided a thorough examination. I felt confident in his ability to properly diagnose and treat me.

Overall, my experience at the Royal Melbourne Hospital emergency department was very positive. The staff were kind, efficient, and professional, and I am grateful for the care that I received. Thank you to everyone who was involved in my visit.

The dehumanising treatment experienced in the ED by staff who disrespected human rights and didn't seem to understand informed consent. Look up Lauren Walsh Buckley's account which rings true to me.

Hospital staff stole my housemate’s belongings and were of no assistance in having it returned. Took 4 days for him to be seen for a simple procedure. Cannot trust a single employee there, and having his valuables stolen by a staff member really was the cherry on top.

Edit: finally got a response from Complaints and there is zero acknowledgment of wrong-doing on their end. Complaints person will not provide details of how to escalate the complaint.

Yes there was a long wait in ED (to be expected) but once through and admitted I had incredibly warm, attentive and knowledgeable care from the entire spectrum of staff - PSOs, nurses, anaesthetic and surgical teams who also allayed my anxieties by empowering me with detailed information and a calm and consistently empathetic manner. I feel so grateful for the professional public healthcare RMH deliver; I absolutely want more of my taxes bumping up PSO and nurse salaries at hospitals like RMH. They are exceptional and it’s a crime to undervalue them. Thank you angels!

I was at the rmh for about 8 hours today. I went in due to chest pains. Every employee I came across in the Emergency section, x-ray department and in the short stay section of the hospital was highly skilled and professional. Special thanks to Dr Anthony and all the nurses for making my day as pleasant as possible. I even learned that there is a such thing as a 3rd sound coming from the heart.
Thank you!

I was here for 8 weeks after 8 weeks in city campus after a major stroke. Brilliant staff compassionate and caring. Physio staff had me walking unassisted in 6 weeks. The lovely Laura (physio) and Millie (ot) worked me hard and kept me focused during my stay.highly recomendRMHrehab

RMH is clearly one of the best hospital in the country but they don't have drinking water facility in the emergency area where people bring their sick family members as the last resort. There are people sitting thirsty waiting to be seen which can sometimes take hrs. My wife wes very sick and had to ask for a cup of water twice from the Triage nurse who told me to get water from the toilet if we needed any more. This was disgusting behaviour from a nurse who looked like doing a great job. I hope someone will look into this matter

For a public hospital started in 1848 they all doctors staff etc offer a first class service. Look will always be complaints take the Cows (computers on wheels since renamed) a nurse asked about 1 and the supervisor said yeah theres a cow in room 3 lol the lady thought she was called a cow lol when she wasn't. I cant recomend them enough. I am happy to put my life in their hands. They are human but hey the entertainment value is top notch. Try glass half full people. Lol no need to take your stress out on them please.

My wife was admitted for heart surgery ended up in ICU for 3 weeks. Treatment in ICU was amazing then moved to ward care by nursing staff great communication from and between staff very poor, could never get a straight answer to questions or why something was being done. Even stuffed up day release.

The attitude of the outpatient staff is beyond unacceptable. The lady that I spoke to was visibly annoyed as a result of being asked questions regarding my appointment and spoke to me in a extremely rude and condescending manner. Her behaviour was absolutely disgusting, any individual treating patients like this must be fired immediately. Try hiring staff who actually treat patients like human beings.
