The Moat reviews
24 Love the handmade gnocchi lamb ragu! Consistently good and a must have for me with my favourite wine.
The staff are friendly and professional.
Nikki and I are regulars for the gnocchi night on Wednesdays
Had a wonderful experience dining at the Moat, food was Delicious and the service was warm and welcoming.
Booked on open table and the only time slot available for standard seating (indoors vs outdoors) was at 8: 30pm on a Saturday night which suited us! The venue was actually hard to find especially at night as there isn’t really a sign outside other than a chalk board or umbrellas up but look out for the railings that’s how we spotted it.
As we arrived we were shown to only what I would describe as a waiting area as it was a long bench with a round table in front opposite the kitchen walkway. But thankfully the waiter did reseat us in a more appropriate area once I asked to move as I don’t know how they would expect someone to have a full meal there.
We had 2 starters to share, a main each, a side of potatoes and 1 dessert between us. I had the king prawn dish which was delicious and a great portion size. My boyfriend had the lamb gnocchi special which, was very tasty but as he described “a child’s portion”. So maybe be mindful the specials may be smaller than the menu dishes.
It was quite loud which we didn’t mind but I probably wouldn’t recommend for anyone on a first date or if looking for something more intimate. Seemed great for birthdays or catch-ups with friends
Service was great, very tentative waiters and waitresses. The wine was also delicious, shout out to NZ for never letting the side down
Pasta tasted good, and I really liked the lamb steak. Most staff were nice, but one of the staff members who served us was being rude -
And despite the reservation was for three people, we were guided to a double seat where an extra chair was attached which made us request a change to another seat.
They bent over backwards to accommodate us and settle 6 of us in including 2 toddlers last minute, food and wine was superb but not much in the way of beer
Had a fantastic time at this restaurant.
Great wine menu and I liked that there are only 3-4 mains options to keep things simple. But don't worry there is plenty of variety with the shared plates menu.
Great staff and hosts. Will definitely come back to this place
Great place for a casual weekday dinner. Friendly fast service, nice food, good drinks options.
Lovley little find. We arrived without booking and luckily we managed to get a table. The staff are terrific and will explain menu and give advice on dishes. The food was amazing and good portion sizes, they don't rush courses which is good great ambience and relaxing atmosphere definitely highly recommend and not over priced.
Great atmosphere, food and customer service. A nice place to go to with friends, family or in-laws.
Happy hour drinks tasted watered down, which is a shame. Regardless the happy hour prices were awesome and its a bit of a hidden gem right in the CBD.
Would be great on a warm summer day!
Rosie and Paul have provided an amazing catering service for our event at the Wheeler Centre. The booking and communication was seamless. The service and timing was amazing. And the food was just fantastic - very yummy and so well presented and managed.
We had less guests than anticipated and to avoid the wastage of food they even managed organising food donation on our behalf.
Highly recommend it for your future events.
We held our engagement party here on Saturday evening and I cannot speak more highly of the venue, the staff and the food. Rosie was incredible during the planning process, Ted was exceptional with set up and anticipating all of our guest’s needs, and all of the kitchen staff made food that our guests could not stop raving about (as well as accomodating a number of dietary requirements). Thank you so much for a fabulous night, and if you’re thinking of holding a function here, I highly recommend!
Will never stop coming here for after-work drinks. Great staff and excellent happy hour choices.
Probably all round best restaurant I’ve ever been to. Amazing staff, incredible food and great, warm atmosphere.
What a wonderful restaurant! Absolutely top quality food and the best service from the staff who were very friendly and looked after us the whole time. One of the best places you absolutely have to go to! I had the veg Penang curry and it was just super top notch! The others had lentils dahl, eggplant veg dish and warm veg salad and we got to share a bit of each among 4 of us and everything was perfect tasting! We enjoyed some really top quality cocktails as well. Thank you to the lovely staff for your service and looking after us:) we can't wait to come back again!:)
Great service and we have enjoyed every meal here - our third visit today! ! Great place to meet with friends
Nice feel, it's tucked away a little bit below street level and has good options especially for lunch
This place is tucked in under the stunning state library and the intimate, cosy feel makes it perfect for date night. We shared the chicken meatballs, mushrooms and polenta special, and the grain salad. Each dish was a flavourful adventure and even felt healthy. The serving sizes were generous, and vegetarian options were substantial. We finished with the ice cream in a brioche bun, a fun way to finish. Staff were super friendly, even taking the time to suggest a few small bars we could visit when we asked. It felt like fine dining without the pretension. Will recommend to everyone!
Wonderful atmosphere, excellent food, great service and even better wine. To top that, super value for money. Recommended you book if it's a busy time of the week.
The staff at the Moat are always so attentive and lovely! It's usually always busy and everyone hustles so well. They make me feel very welcome everytime I'm there.
