The Merchants Guild reviews
83Great coffee, good and service! Not much else to ask. The hallumi was a little weird texture wise (not your usual firm but squeaky type) but still pretty tasty.
Got some breakfast delivered via Uber as the family is at home unwell. Food was delicious, no idea how they make porridge taste so good! Was all packaged in a way that it arrived hot too. Thanks guys!
. A place for a 'treat' or once in a while brunch with friends - it's too pricey for your everyday coffee & cake place. Plenty of places along Centre Rd, that's better value for money. There's a good selection in Merchant's food menu but very little in cakes display. Coffee was nice.
Great food and good coffee. We had the slow cooked lamb on crumpets and pulled pork eggs Benny. Was v nice and we both liked it.
Brunch on mothers day was amazing. The prices are much the same as other places, but the little kitchen presented the food as you would expect from a top notch restaurant. Taste was superb as well. Four meals and every one a winner.
Unfortunate experience with the Green eggs served. It wasn’t of much flavour though packed punch in a bad case of gastro for the evening. I made them aware the following day. The response were the words. “Okay”
We dined in for breakfast and had their Red Valvet Pancakes and The Merchant’s Veggie Burger both of them were amazing.
The Merchants Guild, Bentleigh East
A bustling cafe in the heart of Bentleigh East.
Like most cafes in Melbourne, The Merchants Guild has a wide variety of food and drinks with all day breakfast, lunch and sandwiches.
What I had:
Middle Eastern Breakky - Mixed herb flat bread, caramelised onion, kale, slow cooked lamb, harissa hollandaise with poached eggs and dukkha ($20.5)
A decent meal, not the best but not the worst. The slow cooked lamb wasn’t quite as tender as other places I’ve tried and the poached eggs were a tad overdone. However, the drinks were pretty good. The chai here was definitely better than some other cafes who tend to make it too milky, I’m looking for a stronger chai flavour without going powdered. (I’ve also heard that their peanut butter protein latte is pretty bomb).
I’ll probably give the food here another shot,
What dishes would you recommend from The Merchant’s Guild?
Oh dear, I am not sure what happened to the appetizing food once served! 3 stars for the friendly front of house staff. Sorry no stars for simple tasteless toastie at $9.00. Never again. Shame
Nice Cafe. Little courtyard at the back. Food is yummy and presentation is so very well done. Good coffee.
Service is quick, staff friendly, the place is buzzing. There is outdoor seating at the back. The food here is very good.
Great service, staff friendly. But coffee was watery and weak. Wasn't impressed. Will try again maybe an off day
Hands down my favourite cafe in Melbourne! The warm and friendly staff make a beautiful environment to be in, as well as amazing coffee and food!
There is great lighting and space inside, with outside sitting areas both out front and back! Thank you Merchants Guild staff for your beautiful hospitality!
Very nice café with great variety of options. Yummy food and drinks, very happy with my morning here.
I loved the cauliflower salad. Raisins was a nice touch. Fast service and great prices. Recommend.
We went today after not having been for a while and wow, they really impress. Lovely staff, fantastic coffee, really good coffee actually and we shared a crab scrambled eggs with chilli. It was super good with micro herbs and a delicious sauce. High quality and great value. Will be back for this winning formula. Well done guys, fantastic.
Update: 2022 - hadn't been for ages and had lunch here again and it was so good. My partner had the chicken baos and he was very happy, and I had a cauliflower salad which was really, really good. It was so tasty, with high-quality ingredients and topped with haloumi, which gave the whole salad some lovely substance. Will definitely be back and also love the various options for seating here, and staff are just lovely.
Didn't enjoy our breakfasts.
Bread was completely stale, probably days old.
Nothing really tasted nice.
Always love the breakfasts. I'd the coffee was better and we could hear each other talk in the loud room, would have given 5 stars.
Great place - has definitely improved since pre covid! Would definitely recommend going here now.
