My mum was treated by a terrible head nurse that spilled half the contents of the pan on the bed and also got blood everywhere when trying to get a line in. Left her with a bloody gown and a soiled bed, I had to look after the change myself. Would not recommend.

As a long term outpatient of their rehab services, I couldn't recommend a more professional, clean and friendly facility in Melbourne's south east.

I did my Nursing placements there and the environment was very good and accommodating. We learnt a lot with lots of exposure, equipment and diverse range of treatments and rehabilitation services.
I achieved a good grasp of all my nursing skills under supervision and it was excellent.

I would highly recommend Universities to send students on Placements to this facility, especially nursing students.

This facility is a real disgrace. My 87 year old father was transferred there from the Austin for rehab to rebuild his strength after nearly 7 weeks in hospital. Fist impression of this facility was that dad was told to stay in his chair and not move without nurse assistance. He needed to go to the bathroom so he buzzed the nurse. No-one came for 20 mins. My sister went to the nurses station to see them all standing around talking and asked for assistance. They said they would be right there. 20 mins later still no nurse so he was assisted to the bathroom by a family member.

He has ulcers on his legs which were out of control (before he went to the Austin) and the dressings needed to be changed daily to prevent further spread. All the required dressings were sent with him to the hospital as well as instructions. On day 2 we asked whether they were going to change his dressings - he has necrotic flesh around the ulcers so dressing changes are extremely important. We were told they were not advised that he needed the dressing changed. I contacted the Austin Hospital and asked them to liaise with the staff at Boronia - they were on the phone to them within 5 mins.

So far, we have experienced major attitudes from some of the staff - a simple request as to when he was likely to be assisted with showering and having his dressing changed was met with aggression and a comment that they provide 24/7 nursing care and will get to it - a family member said we would check in later that day for an update. The dressings were changed mid afternoon. They just don't care. They were concerned with moving patients from one floor to another and doing their paperwork than actual medical care. In the time he has been there I have found only 2 nurses that seem to care and a fabulous rehab person.

The wound attention seems to be a real concern - they keep talking about having a wound specialist assess the wounds and yet nearly a week after admission this hasn't happened. Instead they talk in from of dad about their concern about the wounds - he then got into his head his legs might need to be umputated. I mean really - what sort of professionalism is this.
When I raised my concerns about it - the nurse went straight back to we need to get advice on the wounds. I told them to contact Dad vascular surgeon and the Austin if they need more reference points.

Last night I requested dad be given his prescribed sleeping pills. I was told by a very rude nurse that it wasn't on his medication schedule. I told her to check the meds discharge report from the Austin which shows it as prescribed and an on demand medication if dad needed it. She continued to give me attitude and said she would consult the file but wouldn't commit to giving him the medication. I am dreading the visit today to see whether they gave him the medication.
This place is just a money machine - they really don't care most certainly at the management level. A shocking facility. I gave it only 1 star because you can't post with some sort of rating.

I am disgusted with the care, or lack thereof, that my 80 yr old father is currently receiving at this facility. His pain is out of control and he says himself he is struggling which is rare for Dad… he has a broken shoulder and a broken hip… the pain in his shoulder and neck are so intense he can’t manage his meal… it’s just dumped in front of him and he can’t take of any lids or open anything so lays there to suffer…. He has dementia so forgets to ask for more pain relief his pain management is totally inadequate… there are probably good nurses but also very rude nurses to patient and family alike… only two visitors per day…. My sister took my Mum to see him and she wasn’t even allowed to see her own husband as someone else had been… that is the equivalent of an intensive care unit not a rehab hospital… even post Covid… Dad is usually Mums carer… to shut her out when he is just there for excercises is atrocious…. To have a patient laying in pain and not able to manage his meal or request help is atrocious… even my young son with a broken wrist was given more pain relief than that… I only gave it a star so I could leave feedback I hope none of my family are ever there again

The facility was extremely clean and inviting. All the staff, including cleaners and allied staff were very friendly and caring. My doctor whose name was Dr KAUR. Manage my pain very well and was always very cheerful and helpful. The physio department really help me with my rehabilitation exercises, the food was extremely tasty and of restaurant quality and always hot and a lot of variety. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience to stay there, and I think all the people involved for helping me make my stay a pleasant one.

After undergoing major orthopaedic surgery I was referred to The Melbourne Eastern Rehabilitation Hospital by Epworth Richmond. However, when I read the preponderance of negative reviews I had a sense of reluctance about agreeing to be referred there. After further discussion with Epworth staff I consented to being transferred there.

Upon admission, I was immediately impressed by the genuine welcome and the high level of both care and concern from the nursing staff. After carefully surveying the ward environment I was very impressed at the high level of cleanliness of the facility.

The next morning I was assessed by physiotherapy staff and an individualised rehabilitation program was devised. I was then examined by my treating rehabilitation consultant. His medical expertise and authentic empathy reassured me that my admission was going to be a positive experience.

As a retired registered nurse with 40 years experience it was a novel experience being a patient. The duration of my hospitalisation was about 50 days. Thus, my experience was long term increasing the validity of my observations and consequent conclusions.

1. The majority of nursing staff were professional, caring and attentive.
2. Likewise, medical staff were excellent in their approach to patient care.
3. Physiotherapy was conducted 7 days each week leading to significant improvement that assisted my recovery.
4. The quality and variety of the food and service was of a high standard.

Overall, my patient experience was positive and therapeutic in outcome. My sincere thanks and appreciation of the compassionate care of both clinical and ancillary staff of The Melbourne Eastern Private Hospital.

My dad is in there now because we were told every other place was full. Dad has high needs and needs all his food puree and his drinks thicken. On his first day at lunch after arriving from knox hospital he was given a normal pasta lunch and normal water. By the time l came in with mum he had vomit on him and the remainder of what he vomited on his tray covered with paper towel. After finding who the nurse was that was looking after dad and asking why he was giving this for lunch. All l got was "l was not given his handover. " I then went to the nurses station because they did not answer the call bell after 30min because dad had not had a drink only to be told, "he has a jug In his room, " l had to tell them again that he needs thicken water. This place is a nightmare, we are looking at moving him. Pick up your game, employ staff that have care and empathy.

***WARNING- WARNING- WARNING****
DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS FACILITY!
My father had a fall with a very serious injury, we went to view this facility and to say we were hounded to make The Melbourne Eastern Private Hospital our choice is an understatement!
This should have been our biggest “Red Flag”
The coordinator rang myself, my mother, my father, the hospital more than 10 tines!
As Dad was classed as a “High Care” patient at the time he wasn’t accepted at his preferred Rehab. We were assured that this facility could cope with dads injuries so we decided to have him transferred there - what a mistake!
On the second day dad was visited by a doctor and within 12 hours was told that
“this wasn’t the right facility for him”
if that was the case why did they take him it’s all about the money and filling that bed.
They then left dad to sit in a chair for 2 weeks, he was begging them to do rehab.
I tried to call a meeting with the doctor, physio, nurse and occupational therapist which they completely ignored.
I found the staff were always rude and didn’t like to be bothered when I went ti the nurses station!

On the day dad was quickly shoved out of there we arrived to find 5 nurses packing up his belongings, dad looking so unwell and at deaths door yet the day before he was as healthy as anything.
We asked what was going on to get told he’s going to Box Hill Hospital- I walked straight out to the nurses station to ask what was going on? We were told it will be easier for your father to get into long term rehab if he goes back into the public system. I asked why he going to Box Hill, they said isn’t that where he came from? I said, no he came from Maroondah and asked that he be sent back there. When he arrived at Maroondah he had a blood infection and was very, very ill for many days!
I believe they got dad out of there so he didn’t die at this facility!
I have reported this facility to the Health Commissioners and believe this place should be shut down. Reading reviews on this place shows how horrible it is, if you love your family don’t jeopardise their life sending them here.

Very disappointed in this place. It is March 2022 and no visitors are permitted. There seems to be a great lack of staff to look after patients. My 95 Yr old mother has twice in the last week required help to get to the toilet and got no response. She was even yelling out for help and no staff came. Hence they had a mess to clean up. Both myself and my sister inlaw have sent emails but no reply. After a week we still do not know what is happening. We will never allow her to go here again.

My 91 year old Mother was in for rehab after a nasty fall. She had cracked her head on concrete, fractured 9 Ribs and after hospitalisation was transferred here. On her second night in there, an agency nurse was extremely rude, unprofessional and just threw her medication at her, told her to "Take your bloody medicine" and slammed the cup down at mum. My mother was unable to reach the medication, another patient, an 88 year old lady came to her assistance. Both ladies were scared and upset, we discharged Mum the following day and bought her home. This is appalling and disgraceful. Shame on them

What a joke. They don't answer the phone, you can't talk to a doctor and they see elderly people crying to go home and understand why they are there and do nothing! I removed my father after 48 hours because the emotional trauma was not worth it! AHPRA needs to know!

My grandfather was unfortunate enough to be sent to this rehab hospital after breaking his hip. Poor management and attention to patients. The nursing staff told my mother that there’s no doctor for five days and they were inattentive to him as his condition deteriorated resulting in a transfer back to hospital. If you have a choice of where to attend, choose somewhere else

My mother's currently in their Rehab. The food choices are extremely average considering this is a new private facility! No hot meals provided for breakfast (i.e. Scrambled eggs).

They provide 2 hot meal options for lunch and dinner. We don't eat Pork, so the other choice was vegetarian or standard sandwiches. Our request for a piece of chicken or fish was ignored.

So my family has been bringing mum food, so that at least one meal she will eat properly.

Also visiting hours are from 10am - 4pm - so how does one go visit if they are working till 5 or 5.30pm during the week?

The rehab administrator mentioned to send her a list of preferred menu items and she will speak to the Chef to provide one of those requests for either lunch or dinner. I hope this can be achieved.

I would not be recommending this place to anyone, which is really sad since its a new establishment in our area. Pretty average for a private facility.

Horrid care for a loved one. Didn't try to accommodate the patient's needs just vastly increased the pain medication to the point of barely being conscious. Medication left on the floor. When mentioned to a health care professional was told "I wouldn't send my cat there" with disdain. Do not go here.
