The Local Umbrella reviews
15I’m so grateful this cafe exists. My daughter is Autistic and we haven’t been able to leave the house in over a week. She demanded we leave the house today. We haven’t visited since they had moved locations. The new space is amazing. She was so happy and comfortable and felt safe to have a meltdown in the bathroom when she had enough. So nice to not be judged and the coffee and food was excellent. Absolute gem of a cafe that we will defiantly come back to on the days that we can leave the house
The service is a little slow but it’s very friendly and just perfect for wild toddlers! Lots of toys to keep them busy, delicious toasties, $7 mixed plates for kids and entertainment is free! A little chaotic but highly recommended.
I am surprised how many people recommend this place. I have visited twice now to make sure my experience wasn't out of the ordinary.
Tiny, limited menu and both times the food has come out incorrectly after a substantial wait. It's literally microwaved or sandwich pressed food. Turkey was sold out on both occasions despite being empty.
Service non-existent, staff don't seem to know what they are doing. When you say that isn't what I ordered they just look at you blankly and don't know what is going on.
Supposed to be a relaxing outlet, screaming kids with toys strewn everywhere. No one in sight to tidy up or regularly clean toy items. Neuro friendly? No way - do not bother taking neurodiverse children here as it is hectic and overstimulating.
So welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Good for children of all ages and capabilities (and for mums who want a coffee and snack while keeping kids occupied
Highly recommended!
All the staff there were very welcoming to all customers and children with all abilities and are all trained in working with people who have special needs highly recommended this place!
Came here for a birthday party a few weeks ago. The coffee is really nice and the food provided was really nice and varied. The chocolate strawberries were amazing. For kids with autism it's a beautiful space with lots of things to do and try. Great space and staff.
Nice book to tuck into with kiddos when weathers a bit dreary. The owner is so lovely. They also have organised playgroups
The Local Umbeella is fantastic for any parents with kids, or even if you don't have kids but want to have a good meal or a decent coffee. We had our daughter's 2nd birthday here, Robyn and staff are super friendly and helpful, and our guests all loved it, especially with the fact there are so many toys for their kids to play with, the kids all had a ball. The prices are very reasonable too, I would highly recommend The Local Umberall.
My toddler loves this place!
Its quite new, and it has everything you need.
If you want to enjoy your cuppa while watching the kids playing, this one is a go to. My new fave local spot! ️
Fantastic play space with variety of toys, enough space to feel comfortable and kid friendly facilities. Friendly staff and a lovely, simple menu. Highly recommend.
Came here with my autistic daughter for the first time to play. I didn't intend to stay long, but met a mum and her daughter who played with mu daughter too. We also chatted with the owner Robin who is lovely. The toastie, fruit/vege snacks and coffee was a delight. Thank you Robin and team We definitely be back.
Such a good atmosphere with lots of games, toys and activities for all ages. Really friendly and attentive staff who are happy to cater to individual needs. I would particularly recommend it for anyone looking for a good place to relax with their kids or connect with other parents in the community! Will definitely be back to support this lovely new business.
Just visited this morning for a quick coffee and muffin with my 1 year old, we ended up staying and playing for an hour. Perfect spot to catch up with friends, especially if you have little ones. Lots of toys, for all kids ages, including really little ones with sensory play. Staff were lovely. Highly recommend!
Great space for catch ups with kids. Lots for kids to play with (in case you were wondering, the cafe cleans toys every night and/or puts them through dishwasher), books to read and even some books/puzzles for adults. Simple drinks and food but enough to get you by in the few hours you could spend there! Good for when the weather isn't conducive for an outdoor play!
