The Lame Duck reviews
26The owner/manager is a literal Karen and you actually can't breathe in this place. They pack everyone in like sardines.
It was early, I was completely sober, nobody in the line and the guy in the entrance didn’t let me go inside, just because I was alone… (he told me that) haha is that a reason or is that discrimination
Actually really good vibes on a Saturday night, Great party tunes and people having a blast. Would go back.
The website states they are open at 8pm on Thursdays for Karaoke. Went at 9.15pm last week and the place was empty! I was the only person there and the bar staff just stood around chatting - didn't acknowledge me or let me know about the karaoke. Maybe it doesn't kick off until midnight, but who's to know? I left.
If you are a female stay away from this place. They say they are female owned and run, yet they cannot provide a safe space for females. I was groped by a bouncer and then by a patron, when I complained to the manager they laughed and then rsa me and kicked me out. To make matters worse my friends were in side and they wouldn’t let me get the attention of my friends. So I had to go home by myself and as a female I felt very vulnerable at this time.
Bouncers are just plain unfriendly, they almost refused my friend entry as he was a single male and they made me go through my online health records to prove that I have had my covid vaccine. Apparently my legitimate international vaccine passport wasn’t enough for this guy. It seemed to be enough for both the Victorian and federal governments
Without a doubt, every time my friends and I attempt to enter the lame duck without cis-women with us the bouncer openly, unashamedly and with the subtly of a pipe bomb will say we will not be let in because "they are only allowing mixed groups in tonight" and then will proceed to let in a large group of women behind us. If we had known the women in line with us would that have made a difference?
Whether we are tipsy, sober, dressed up or dressed down the common denominator is always our gender and the bouncer is not even smart enough to lie about breaking the law to our faces.
Other times the bouncers will give us a hard time only to be let up and the place is empty? What?
Being positioned in a such a diverse and culturally rich suburb, the lame duck would have to be the most exclusionary and rude venue to locals and visitors alike.
Yah Yah’s is great, this place is good enough - when you get in. Previously my friends and I had been inside but this time we got discriminated against based on gender.
Steer clear, the bouncers are awful. My friend
was groped here Thursday night as she was leaving to get some fresh air, and instead of supporting and protecting her - because she swore (shocking response to being groped, wow!) - security at the door wouldn't let her back in. Instead, they refused her entry, knowingly making her stay outside alone and
vulnerable, and not even letting her back in to
collect her phone and bag or to find
friends.cruel and totally irresponsible behaviour, we will not be back.
Very friendly staff but I got kicked out after standing in a booth after getting punched in the nuts
Great area for a dance and a few pints.
Love the photo booth too, really ties it all together. Would more than recommend while on a night out. Just make sure you're not waiting an hour for the pool table to be free, some of the regulars are very overprotective of it.
Holy moly, what a fun time! Got a last minute booking for a booth and it was the perfect spot for my birthday. We boogied into the night. Super great vibes and friendly bar staff. We will be back! ️
Absolute best place for a boogie. Great tunes, quality beers, amazing crowd! And all super close to the city!
Beyond fun venue! The tunes are fabulous and the vibes make you feel so welcome and that you’ve stepped into a big party with all of your friends. Only down side is an extremely sticky floor, wear sturdy shoes!
Mix of feelings with this place, like the vibes and music.but bar stuff is really rude. I had two situations of drunk guys spilling drinks by mistake on me.but when I argued, security guys kicked me.even being sober.
I tried to be polite, but they still rude.
Guy long hair at the bar, is so machist and misogynistic.
Lady in charge very sexist.
It's okay. Who wants to listen to ABBA these days though. I didn't know they were a 70s disco bar though so y'know, that's on me.
Loved this place on a Saturday night. Great music, vibes and decor. Will definitely be returning for a boogie.
“held the door” and didn’t let anyone else.as soon as we left the line she let people in.obvs didn’t like us lol.girls are so spiteful.
I've been twice on a Saturday night and the music and service has been top notch. 60's through 80's tunes, all danceable, and a wide selection of spirits for mixers.
Lame indeed. The beer is off and they wouldn't even acknowledge it or offer replacement. Bartender clueless. RESPONSE: They didn't. Do yourself a favour and go taste Balter somewhere where they know what they are doing. Hopefully you will notice the difference and make improvements. After that you can start working on your attitude.
