4Training with Erica at Impulse Company in Melbourne has been a wonderful part of my life in the last few years. One of the strengths of the Meisner technique for actors is that it’s useful at any level - whether you’re a beginner or have been acting for decades. I completed the Introduction to Meisner, Module 1 with John Batchelor (JB) at the beginning of April and it was incredible! I had studied Meisner a little through other courses and as part of preparing plays, and all my experiences with it had turned me off the practice. I found it to be confusing at best and abusive at worst. My view on Meisner, particularly on the method taught by the Impulse company, has completely changed after this course.
JB broke down the first steps of repetition into bite size pieces, allowing us to comfortably and safely explore Meisner exercises and gain confidence with each new step. He also created a warm and open environment that made the whole experience not only useful but enjoyable.
Furthermore, the admin side of things was exemplary. Erica, who was in charge of emails for me, was considerate, quick to respond and helpful.
If you've been wanting to try Meisner, need a refresher or simply want a fresh take on approaching acting, I highly recommend the Impulse Company, John Batchelor and their Meisner Modules.
A beautiful teacher who creates a comfortable, safe, fun environment to learn and grow. I was blown away by how the exercises from the first class not only changed my acting but also helped me in life. My only regret is that I didn't do these classes sooner! I am so grateful for all that I've learnt and would definitely recommend them. Because of these classes I was able to be the most present and truthful I've ever been on film. Thank you.
