The Hotel Shamrock

I thought the Shamrock would be a lovely place for our USA family to have dinner on a Tuesday evening.
It was the worst meal we have had.
Service was ordinary. Ordered bitters lime and soda.sorry out of bitters.
How could you run out of bitters?
Merlot.what is a Merlot?
Ordered roast pork looked like it was left over from Christmas day.
Hamburger was nothing to write home about.
Daughter in laws meal never arrived.
As a local I was ashamed to be sitting close by with visitors from out of town town.

Food was nice, but it took too long to come out. A surcharge added for it just being the Christmas season, even though it was not a public holiday.

Stopped in for Breakfast this morning.
Waited 40 minutes for a coffee. Orange juice and coffees came out 20 minutes after our meals due to minimal staff.
Outdoor tables were dirty and coffee was horrible. Disappointing!

This meal was so bloody good, I don’t usually take photos of my dinner but as I was halfway through I felt it would be a complete disservice to not. Not only was the service amazing but this meal was just exquisite. Sorry for the bad photo I have devoured it as you can see.

Where do I start.bar staff, ummmm the guy is trying so hard to cover for the incompetency of the other staff.
The guy is trying so hard in the dinning room to cover for the incompetency of the kitchen staff. Ordered 3 meals, kitchen docket showed 2 meals. Thank goodness I requested a copy of the docket to show 3 meals ordered to show proof of purchase. Chef special of beel goulash NOT outstanding. Meat Lovers Parma, average. Special Parmalat was as expected.

Such a missed opportunity! We were so excited to stay in such a historical pub. Reception and welcoming were underwhelming. Rooms are good, basic and clean, but missing the opportunities to be better and offer some thoughtful touches!
On grand final day, we tried to enjoy the 1st floor Fox bar, but too basic an offering, and they wouldn't turn on volume to watch the AFL, so we left, leaving only 2 customers! We ordered food and wine, but had to go down stairs to see menu and order and get cutlery ourselves! When we came back after watching the AFL at another hotel, we ordered a bottle of wine from bottom bar to drink on balcony and they served it in a dirty broken gravy bucket with ice!
Such a shame.management not on the ball and care factor is non existent.which sets the tone for the rest of the team. Never again

Do not order the pancakes for breakfast
They were inedible
That were like rubber you couldn't even cut into them
I told the staff and the reply was that they get them in from a supplier as complete pancakes
So they are not freshly made and they will notify the supplier
But there was no compensation given just you paid for the meal which was extra 20 percent being a public holiday and that is that

For Easter Sunday, they had barely any staff on, our food took 1 hour to come out, was wrong for 2 dishes and the chef failed to mention they’d run out of a dish so they served whatever they wanted as ‘next best thing’ without communicating. The waitress was unbelievably rude about it and said ‘that’s what happens here’.

This is the 3rd time we’ve come here when we’ve visited Bendigo and the service has been slow and rude every time. We will not be coming here again.

Loved our stay in this historic hotel with its stained glass windows, stunning staircase and glorious tiled Moorish style entry Hall.

I ordered a small kids burger and it was very disappointing they also charged a surcharge when it’s not a public holiday and the staff at the bar were very rude to me when I asked for extra sauce and made me upset. Do not recommend (I’m 12)

The waitressing staff didn't know how to waiter and serve people we had a booking at 7pm which they should have left an open table and reserved, instead they clean the table rushed breaking plates along the way no menus no cutlery no water on the table.poor experience ever had to top it off I went off to the bathroom and she's clear the table for my dad but I was still eating and spilled water all through my dinner

Ordered Parma, chips and salad. My meal came 10 minutes after everyone else has finished their meals and I got a parma with broccoli and gravy! My son ordered the steak sandwich and it came with about 8 chips and my wife was unwell after eating the fish and chips. The staff were pleasant unfortunately the experience was not.

Ate at the restaurant. So understaffed it created mayhem. The POS (computer) was not working adding to the chaos. Meals arrived wrong - twice - and so late it would have been quicker to go buy the ingredients and cook it ourselves. The forgotten fried mushrooms arrived slightly charred on the outside and raw in the middle. Staff were either stoned and ambivalent or frantic and trying to save the sinking ship. Was wondering why it was filled with tourists and no locals. Now I know. Serving sizes really small now too.

Went to the downstairs bistro for lunch today. 3 meals Steak Sandwich, Parma, Chips and Salad and Fish n Chips.
The Steak Sandwich came out 10 minutes before the other meals, the amount of chips on the plate was terrible. The Parma came out with Broccoli and cauliflower and gravy. Not what was ordered, parma, was average. The Fish n Chips was ok although my stonach has been quite unsettled all afternoon. The Staff were apologetic, but it wasnt a great experience, won't go there again.

15 mins wait to be seated on a Monday morning, waiting another 15mins for a high chair, then upon ordering our breakfast told no pancakes and no hash browns available (could have told us that when we got the menu), could see other customers had been waiting for meals a while, plus the other red flags and legged it to maccas as it seems Bendigo has nothing else to offer it’s visitors.

We walk in off the street for breakfast the atmosphere was lovely the lady who served us was really lovely, food was basic, the poached eggs were like hard boiled eggs, everything was tasty but COLD which made it very disappointing.

We were really looking forward to going to this Hotel for lunch but was very dissapointed. We travelled from Melbourne for day. The bar staff were lovely. The dining service was very poor. The first meal came out in a reasonable time then my meal took another 20mins to come out but my partner didn't even get his meal. We waited 45mins before we went to the counter to ask about it and not even an apology. When we then asked for a refund the manager obliged but with no courtesy at all. We won't be back.

Don’t bother with the high tea at the Shamrock. We went for a work Christmas party and were severely disappointed. Where do I even start? Our expectation was a proper high tea…lots of bite sized food with pots of real leaf tea. Reality was more of a slap together school lunch. The sandwiches were not club sandwiches - ham and tomato, cut in half and served with thick crusts. The sweet food was over processed and not enjoyable. Coffee and tea were served at a help-yourself table, with hospital crockery, luke warm water from the urn and long life pods of milk like you get when you go to a hotel (only on requested). The customer service was non existent…our dirty plates were left on the table for hours, and no drinks were offered, not even bottles of water. The one cocktail I did order lacked any sugar so tasted less than ideal! Apart from the lovely company, the day was very disappointing!

Went for the ghost tour, which included a meal, was average at best, service was slow, only 2 girls working, doing the bar, taking food orders and serving food. Stayed at the hotel very overpriced room was $270, room 209 on 3rd floor, unfortunately for us there was a wedding reception room right below our room, music blaring late into the night, guests very loud with swearing and trying to sing. Would not stay there again.

Looks good. It would be nice if there was a few extra meals on sports bar menu. Limited.but staff nice
