Just purchased a lovely pair of Kroken chairs from THE HISTORY. Its a wonderful collection and Rex delivered the chairs the next day. Very helpful, friendly service, and great quality well curated furniture.

I saw the YouTube video of Eames lounge chair. They say it was hand made but then in 10seconds later, there was some computerised machine taking place. But it looks cool.

We found the sofa of our dreams at The History. Rex and Mary have a lovely space and we were not hurried along at all as we made our decision. We had looked at sofas at a number of similar stores and the quality at The History was a stand out. Each piece obviously gets loads of love and attention before they are up for sale.

The History has pieces from the affordable to the aspirational. Unique pieces in excellent condition from a range of sources from Scandinavia to Italy. Restoration to all pieces is top notch and Rex and Mary knowledgeable and discerning about what they sell. We've bought two significant pieces from The History and are delighted by both.

BUYERS BEWARE OF INFERIOR "PATCH UP" RESTO WORK CARRIED OUT ON THE VINTAGE FURNITURE SOLD HERE.

Firstly, I would like to mention that Rex Doesburg from The History has been dishonest and exaggerated with his response to my review.

Rex was really helpful whilst I was in store but things quickly went south once I decided to purchase.
The ad for the 2 chairs I purchased (H. W Klein Silhouette chairs) clearly stated the price was for the 2 chairs but Rex initially charged me double the advertised price at checkout.this was rectified but only after he squeezed me for a few hundred more.

The chairs were in good condition but I wanted to take them to the next level and have the leather completely rejuvenated by a leather specialist whom I have used before, to help him out he suggested I contact Rex to find out what he used to treat the chairs. Rex was not interested at all in being straightforward and or honest regarding what he had used on the leather and basically blew me off.so much for customer service!

The leather specialist has since confirmed that the chairs were crudely and quickly conditioned with the wrong product as well as unnecessarily cut heavily on the inside to replace the padding underneath.

I am such a fan of The History! Not only is the collection on offer expertly curated and beautifully presented, Rex and Mary are extremely knowledgeable about both the exquisite art and stunning furniture.

In addition, they have both gone out of their way to ensure that the pieces I chose would work in the space and made fabulous suggestions. Rex has clearly had long experience in interiors. I understand that he has also created beautiful spaces from scratch for some lucky clients.

Not only that, but he has restored and re-upholstered a pair of chairs that had great sentimental value but had been totally destroyed by our boisterous puppies. They look better than before!

In an era where customer service seems to be a thing of the past, Rex and Mary never fail to go above and beyond. My purchases have been hand-delivered (even on a Sunday night!), and the art even hung for me!

The History is the first place I would go for interesting, high-quality pieces at extremely reasonable prices. I tell all my friends about it and wholeheartedly recommend it – five stars!

Amazing and beautiful furniture, perfect restoration job.

Over the years, my partner and I have bought several chairs and a sofa from Rex and his lovely partner Mary. The furniture was beautiful, very good condition for it's age and we found Rex and Mary both to be lovely and helpful. We are a young couple and felt really comfortable during the whole experience (they aren't at all intimidating or snobby even though they sell beautiful things!).

We brought in one of our chairs yesterday as we had ripped it when we were moving house. Rex did a beautiful job restoring the leather and gave it a lovely treatment for us. His workmanship is amazing - the chair is in beautiful condition and we are really lucky!

Very happy customer of The History. It is a beautiful shop! Rex generously loaned us a piece and then sourced us a companion piece which we are also very happy with. We really appreciated the quality of our chairs (we ended up getting three!) and found The History significantly better quality and more reasonably priced than other Mid-Century shops Northside.
