Generally I avoid pizza places mainly because of the menu choices seem to be loaded with carbs and carbs with limited choices.
Thought l tried The Forged base on the high star rating.
The menu variety was good with good service.
Price on average is where most pizza restaurants have settled on.
Still trying to work out the differences between gourmet vs standard pizzas apart from the price or using a wood oven?
Enjoyed my meal, if pizzas are your treat then this venue should not disappoint.

A Ballarat Icon. These guys know how to do good woodfired pizzas. Every time without fail, it's delicious.

Staff were pleasant, atmosphere seemed good. Super expensive take away pizza’s. Very disappointing pizza’s were so soggy and unappetizing they were difficult to eat definitely no reflection of the price an experience to be endured no enjoyed.

The Forge Pizzeria was a great dining experience. Some cyclists that I had crossed paths with earlier in the night suggested I should dine here.thanks for the tip off!

It's pretty hard to fault this place. Super kind staff with personal service, the food is perfect and there's a good range of beers in the fridge (with choices for those that don't like "craft beer"). Thanks all for a great night/dinner.

Anyway, the arancini balls, croquettes and The Anvil pizza are all great. Sorry for the missing middle bit of the pizza in the photo. I was hungry.

Makes me want to move to Ballarat.

Overpriced and underwhelming!
Ordered the volcano and the Pancetta. Both pizzas were so oily, they were dripping. Also the chilli on the Volcano was virtually non-existent. Not hot at all.
Not impressed.

One of the best pizzas in Ballarat. This is the original shop before they open the big place in town.
Prices are still high as always. 2 pizzas & 2 drinks will set you up around $70.
Reasonable prices may bring more business in my opinion.

We ordered 4 pizzas online at about 7pm, were told they'd be ready from 7.30pm, arrived in the shop at 7.30pm, had to wait ages to be served, got various text messages giving updates however pizzas were not ready until 8.15pm. When we got home we got the message "Come to counter". Granted it was Tues 28 December & they would have been short staffed and very busy with dine-in as well as take away orders, however management could manage the online time frame messaging system better (especially at this time of year & other busy times) so that people understand its going to take longer than expected. Pizzas were premium price, $28, $32, $26, $27. Didn't like the pulled pork & cabbage one - tasted like it had blue cheese on it. Will think twice before we order here again.

Most of the food was good. They rang me to advise that my order was ready and then i waited nearly twenty minutes once I got there. Advertised and ordered desserts were not available. I had ordered for six people and was not even offered a carry bag. Not my best experience apart from juggling food to the car at which I excelled.

Lovely to celebrate my birthday with my family, finally in a room together.
We all enjoyed the pizzas

Made my birthday that much better. Great hospitality and service, honestly went above and beyond. Extremely welcoming and I can't compliment the food enough. I can highly recommend the gnocchi gorgonzola, super creamy and the flavours were out of this world. My partner had the carbonara which looked amazing.
Much cozier setting, and will definitely be my Italian go to from now on.

Totally great experience. First time goer, table staff is friendly and enthusiastic, really looking after our family. Foods are great, ordered croquettes, gnocchi and The Iron pizza, came out perfectly timed and delicious.

Delicious! We ordered 4 pizzas and all were amazing. My favourite was the prawn and chorizo pizza- so much flavour and a perfect balance.
My husband has been raving about The Forge for 6 years and I now know why.
Staff are really friendly too. I hope we don't wait so long till our next visit.

A family favorite. Not as busy as the one on town, so they're generally faster.

Always a smile, and the pizzas are great.

Awesome pizzas! Would recommend. Right now, my favourite pizza is ‘The Shearers’. I would recommend ‘The Forge’ to anyone wanting a good pizza in Ballarat

Awesome food, great friendly staff, best wood fired pizza in Ballarat. Must go place if you like italian food. Great vegetarian options as well. Loved it.

Hands down the best pizza in town. Their dough is perfectly balance, doesn't make you feel bloated and the infused smoke flavours from the Woodfire cooking process really makes it stand out. The Straya is my go to, but the butcher and garlic pizzas are fantastic as well. They're also generously sized. Certainly recommend to anyone looking for a change away from the traditional rubbish that is normally processed out of large franchised brands.

Quick efficient service, I ordered online, the order was ready ahead of time. Friendly staff. The pizza was fine but perhaps a little expensive.

This week I walk in `The Forge Pizzeria'' in Sturt St near Alfredton and observe one of the workers at the front counter area preparing pizza with his mask over his mouth only and not over his nose as required in this Pandemic. His head over the pizzas and body leaning over collecting ingredients.

I comment to him and he states it falls down when working. Yet his colleague has a proper mask covering his mouth and nose as per requirements from the DHHS. He continues to work with his nose exposed. Then I see another worker in the back room on his phone using his fingers, then immediately touching food and also this time the mask only covering his chin and lower lip.

So `The Forge Pizzeria'' in Sturt St near Alfredton.doesn't care about COVID-19 spreading and the safety of customers who are trying to support them.

Nice one.wonder why I hardly go and get pizza there. In addition one of the pizza's was burnt and not ready when I came in. Expensive Pizza with unhygienic workers, endangering the lives of customers. Then they complain when we go into lock down and again people die.

Looks like I will be getting pizza from other cleaner & safer businesses who actually care about their customers wellbeing and safety.

We had a terrific lunch on Wednesday at the Forge. Love the atmosphere, the staff are very accommodating and the venue is done up beautifully. There are a wide variety of drink options available, my brother and I both enjoyed different beers. Highly recommend.
