The Fabric Store reviews
12 This is by far my favourite fabric shop in Melbourne. They have a beautiful selection and the staff have never been anything other than lovely and super helpful. I started sewing at the end of 2021 and visited a few shops as a total newbie. This was the first place where I didn't feel uncomfortable.
Recently, I was looking for a particular fabric that wasn't in stock but Jessie (I believe that's her name) took my details and the next day I got a call offering to dispatch the fabric from their Sydney store. I had it 2 days later with no problems. I had to pay for the postage but it was worth it.
I visited last week to buy a lace fabric and lining for an event and the person that helped was extremely nice. Even though it was almost closing time she took the time to help me find the right combination. She even helped me choose between colours that would look better on me. I have almost finished that garment and I couldn't be happier with how it looks. I spent less than $100 (for almost 3 meters of lace and lining) and the dress looks much more expensive than that.
One more thing. Going into the store feels a bit therapeutic. Just browsing beautiful fabrics in a quiet space is awesome.
Great fabrics in a nicely laid out store.
Employees are really unfriendly and this is disappointing.
Staff member was pretty snobby to me and left me feeling discouraged and stupid, even after I let them know I was new to fabric and unsure/needing assistance
Bought my fabric over the phone and the staff were so lovely. They were very clear in the descriptions, and the fabric came just as they described. If I lived in Melbourne I would be going here for all my fabric needs!
Decent selection of fabrics, fair prices and the staff are so lovely! It was a great experience all round:)
Very helpful and friendly! Chatted to me about my projects, gave advice and feedback and helped me find what supplies I needed. Will definetly go back.
Went today and was greeted by a lovely young woman who directed and assisted me buy some lovely printed linens for simple shirts for summer, fine printed silk for a dress and a stunning hide of leather to reupholster a stool with lots over for other 'projects' for the leftovers. Quality product, friendly service, fairly priced. It's going to be a sewing summer
Such helpful staff, a beautiful selection of high quality fabrics. The staff go above and beyond to help with sending samples, tracking down fabric from other stores and are always friendly and professional to deal with.
Great staff and a wide selection of different fabrics including leather makes this an easy local choice for projects
Perfect place for fabrics with style and an edge. The recent leather hides were beautiful and one of a kind.
My favourite place for fabric shopping. Amazing range of merino knits and interesting fibres not found anywhere else. Prices are pretty reasonable and staff helpful
I'm not really in the habit of making complaints or bad reviews, mostly because I've been in customer service for the better part of nine years. My short-lived experience here was so poor that it wasn't the lack of desire to help me in my fabric hunt, but more the way one lady spoke to my partner upon asking him not to pull out certain fabrics, which he was unaware was stock. Let's consider a couple of things for a second, while there is a sign that states the above, it's poorly displayed, hidden amongst fabrics and tags above it. Secondly, there are different ways to ask somebody not to do something, talking at them like they're stupid or incompetent is not one of them. I understand that it's probably something that really grinds this lady's gears, but babe, it's fabric. Chill out.
