54Best bar, Irish Trad music and the looming wall of CDs (old school). Very busy on a Friday night, but makes for a great atmosphere.and i gotta say, seems like a good place to pick up- lots of irish fellas around
Only if you like proper Guinness and kilkenny while enjoying some entertaining live events of varying quality
Not exactly a welcoming bar or with adequate toilet facilities but the beer's good and live music carried the night
What can I say? It's the Drunken Poet. Bring your Irish with you, and prepare for the best Guinness ever.
The landlady was on her own Sunday night. Rushed off her feet she was. But she had a smile and a friendly word for everyone. I was so impressed. And it's true about the Guinness and the music there. Definitely going again.
Beer was nice and cold but need to have lemon squash on tap for hot days, lemonade was so warm it melted the ice, was 39 degrees
Middlin'. Booze is okay but some staff need re-training on attitudes.we pay their wages after all and without us customers they wouldn't have a job.
Great pub/bar! Crowds can get a bit rowdy but overall the atmosphere is great, and staff are very friendly!
This pub has a great selection of drinks, at reasonable prices. They also have live music every night except mondays with free entry, and there staff are friendly. The location is relatively central to the city, and if you are staying central too, it is included within the free tram zone in Melbourne.
Our lovely manager Chivon serves THE best guiness in Australia, and dishes you the best musicians to offer. Happy hour on friday, get yourself in there
Best mix of live music and banter you’ll find anywhere in Melbourne, excellent bar staff, but eat before you get here. The QV Markets are across the road so fill your boots there. The Drunken Poet is about music and immersing yourself in it.
Come in, say hi, you won’t regret it.

Best Guinness in Australia! Not joking. If you walked past you might miss it, but once inside it exudes an ambience and banter that is reminiscent of a Pub in Ireland. An eclectic mix of people add to the charm of the Poet.
Proper Irish pub near Victoria Market popular with after work crowd. Live music in the evenings and weekends. Food limited to tasty toasties.
