The Crux

Great setting. Not a lot of mat space and the mats are pretty hard, you need to be careful about who is around you when you climb.

Fantastic climbs, awesome staff, clean holds, great coffee, friendly enviroment, very good range of training/warm up equipment and a dedicated stretching room.

Small and cozy. Friendly staff. Though the selection is smaller, it's a good location for casuala

The staff were very kind and helpful. The boulder problems were amazingly made and it’s very fun for any level of climber

Friendly atmosphere, but I found the setting of the ahrder grades unergonomic and frankly uninspiring. Maybe the setting team needs to be expanded?

Nice and inclusive atmosphere, the staff were really friendly!
However, the setting could be improved. Unintuitive movement in the harder grades. It felt like the moves just got bigger, rather than more body engagement etc.

Honestly my experience with the crux has been getting worse and worse as a regular customer. Now they charge a $5 fee to even put my account on hold, when this was not the case on the previous structure, nor was I told this would be introduced.

Not the first time I’ve had problems with this new structure but this is the last straw before I made this review. Really not a happy customer as of recent, some of the newer staffing is cold and unwelcoming and the problems seem to be endless with their new system. I really hope some changes are made for customer experience with you guys.

Edit- as a membership that offers no sign up fees and non locked in contracts, a hold fee is a bit of a joke

Nice small gym, good vibe. I'm an intermediate climber and found there's a good range of routes, lots I could climb and some nice challenges. I normally go to a different gym but would definitely come back.

Friendly helpful staff. Nice place to boulder and good coffee too.

Been going to Crux weekly for the last month and a half, and loving it! Just got myself a membership which is a pretty sweet deal. Good for beginners like myself, and everyone's nice and helpful so the solo trip's are always fun regardless.

Fave climbing gym in melbourne! Vibes are chill and local, really friendly staff and community, suitable and encouraging of ALL abilities- something i've found lacking in other gyms post-lockdown. The routes are consistently graded (not easy one week then impossible the next on the same grade), really creatively set and so fun to climb, even on entry/intermediate level routes. Always leave the Crux feeling good, like i've learned some new moves and have had more of a full body workout than just a session of upper body power moves. Staff often will tactfully provide guidance and are ready to engage on the mats when the reception isn't busy which is really nice.

Visited Melbourne from Perth with wife and son (all climb), climbed in a few gyms but The Crux was best by a mile. Friendly staff, Clean, well set routes, variety of features (slab, overhang, cave/tunnel thing, low walls with interesting climbs that make use of the wall contours. Well worth a visit for every level. Never write reviews for places but thought I'd start and this place deserves a mention

Great for both beginners and more experienced climbers with lots of fun routes. As a complete beginner I felt very comfortable and welcome. Such a great community vibe

Been to a few bouldering places in Melbourne and this one’s easily my favourite. Really good variety and the mats are grouse.

The Crux is well-equipped for any bouldering skill level. The owner is super friendly, and has created a really lovely community atmosphere.
