The Block Arcade reviews
44Great stop to take friends from out of town and have afternoon tea at the tea rooms. The arcade is home to the best chocolate shop, Haighs. It also has some cute boutique jewellery shops, great little gift shops for tricky hard to buy men and more. Best to take the team along Collins Street and avoid driving into the city.
A very special Arcade in yje heart of Melbourne City, a must to visit. Restaurants and patisseries.
I was attracted by the delicate cakes outside the window and I bought three cakes. Those cakes are rich and sweet. I am a little bit disappointed regarding the tastes and the prices. There are many people dining in, the vibe is a bonus.
Just the most beautiful Arcade in Melbourne. Love a good stroll through there, as architecture is stunning. Shops are beautiful.
Beautiful stores, interesting collection of stores. Well maintained. The Tea Shop Cafe excellent.
The barber in here is awesome. The oldest barber on the planet. Over 200 years old. It was pretty special to be able to go into there and have a look. The tea place nearby was perfect and the chocolate place (Haighs) was wonderful as well. Wasn't too busy and was nice and warm
What a fantastic place and with so much history. I felt like I was on the movie set of Harry Potter. Melbourne has such class. Well worth the visit for photos.
Reading on Linked In - Have been blocked by Grant Cohen as I am asking the real questions. The Cohens are now all of a sudden interested in the Hopetoun Tea Rooms? Why did he rip up the lease of the Hopetoun Tea Rooms to the potential new owners? Ask the question people - GREED. It's not your business Grant Cohen to replicate and make it your own. Grant Cohen you had all the opportunities to take care of the Hopetoun Tea Rooms when it was in your Block Arcade. Grant if only you fronted up to the transparent and honest answers, instead of providing your - Pinocchio responses. High Tea just for your information was only provided in the Hopetoun Tea Rooms in the last 10 years, by the previous owners, while you groveled at the site from the outside. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and reflects the lowest level of intelligence and imagination. Now you are attempting to steal it from the new purchaser? Go back to your St Germain Creperie, it misses you. You cannot steal someone else's hard work. Previous owners of the last 118 years Mr Cohen, never made it an icon of the Block Arcade. It was only the last 10 years that it was succesful. Attempting to hide the TRUTH, is something you are accustomed to on a daily basis. Dishonesty and theft from your tenants is what you are known for. But just like Daniel Andrews your family and yourself all suffered from Amnesia in court. As you have noted. Bring it on, voluminous evidence of your conduct.
Beautiful building with such detail even if you are not in the block arcade to shop it we worth the stroll to see the building
Just another would be landmark in a city begging for more culture made by a people who destroyed the country’s original 6000 year old culture.
This is an iconic Melbourne shopping precinct that goes back to the late 1800s. Beautiful architecure and beautifully decorated. The mosaic tiled floor is magnificent as are the carved stone finishings, wrought iron and glass canopy. Melbourne's Golden Mile heritage walk runs through the arcade and you'll often see tourists wandering through taking snaps. It's a beautiful arcade to wander through, even if you're only window shopping. I also love the Block Minstrels. Dressed in their eighteenth-century Italian costumes and perched above the central Block's dome, they play their tune on the hour. A visit is highly recommended.
Always a pleasure to walk through here. Great little cafes and restaurants. Great sandwiches, cake and tea in Hopetoun's although seems to be called something else now.
Beautiful, nostalgia, I used to take my little niece there 40 years ago!
I bought my " JeReviens" perfume there at " paint and powder.
That little interesting shop is still in the Block Arcade. My niece and I loved our lunch at Hoptoun Tea Rooms.
Edith Piaf was on C. D.it made our day.
It's such a beautiful building, and has been very well maintained. There are some gorgeous unique stores and it's a gateway to some great cafes and restaurants.
Beautiful experience walking through this lovely heritage Arcade.
Shopping for quality gifts and something a little different, stop for a coffee and a bite to eat, I highly recommend the Block Arcade.
Five Stars.
Wow! What an amazing experience I had at The Block Arcade. The tea room is amazing. U will get best tea here! I spent almost 4 hours here and I was losted here because this place is very attractive and the glass floor is also very attractive. The staff is also very polite and welcome their customers with I would definitely come back!
The Block Arcade is a beautiful piece of historic Melbourne. At the entry from Collins Street have a look at the fresco ceiling in the shop to your right (currently a perfumery). As you walk forward on the spectacular mosaics enjoy their beauty and imagine all the feet that have passed over this in the last century. If you look up there's even some of the original leadlight high above some stores.
The arcade is full of boutique stores, including our wonderful Hopetoun Tea Rooms which has operated as a tea rooms for over 100 years with it's spectacular decor including the etched mirror that is the original. There's a lovely spice shop, jewellers, chocolatier, perfumery, art store, fabulous scarf store, giftware, designer kitchenware and some beautiful clothing stores including Creswick Woollen Mills in the basement near the Elizabeth Street end.
If you're observant you and the children, or your inner child, can enjoy the little statue scenes of people enjoying cuppas, or the wonderful tapping man (who sadly doesn't tap the glass anymore) and on the hour the trumpeters play.
It's worth a little wander to enjoy the sights and smells and pause to enjoy some food.
Beautiful atmosphere in this shopping arcade with it's heritage features. Great array of shops including Heigh's!
The building is amazingly beautiful.every structures and interior is very well preserved. Some shpps are modernized but many remain so lovely
Block arcade is the perfect venue for a function to support the lastest Rutherford catalogue. Historic place. Exquisite shops.
