The Bay Gourmet reviews
47The bay gourmet is best place for me to get my coffee on the way to the beach and I always take home some goodies home for the family keep up the great work
We love visiting The Bay Gourmet every chance we get, the food is always amazing and the staff are so friendly. A great range of locals goodies to purchase too!
My husband can’t get enough of their breakfast rolls.
Went there today with friends for a catch up breakfast, quite early to avoid any large crowds aa was supposed to be a joint friend breakfast. Only 3 of us. All very quiet other than coffee orders which still seemed not too busy as was very early.
We sat for over 30 min for one juice & coffee. Though we were ok with that. Understand holiday season
My two friends order being a wrap & croussant came over 25 later which had already been prepared in the display.
My breaky came another 30 min later. Just poached eggs/avo with toast.
No one smiled while we ordered or dropping off food, just left food in the middle of the table, barely speaking to us & walked away.
Once I got my order toast poached eggs & avocado on the menu 1.5 hr later & friends had eaten, I said Thankyou but disappointed as this was supposed to be a breakfast together. The staff didn’t even register this. We were polite & to be honest too patient.
They really need a manager in there to organise things seems Beth disorganized with unhappy people.
It could be an amazing spot, especially with the courtyard.
Maybe the Cavity across the road should do breakfasts. (advertised for Sun only at this stage). Plus the general store be given more space by council, as they are amazing with great friendly service, was well.
Very disappointed. No one looks happy or smiles. Very slow grumpy service. Will not go again.
Staff were rude, there is a sign ON the website and out the front saying ALL DAY breakfast we tried to order breakfast at 11: 15 being told they don’t do breakfast after 10: 30 and was very rude about this. Food was disappointing
I've been giving this place a go for the last 2 years and unfortunately the coffee seems to be getting worse rather than better. Burnt, bitter and borderline undrinkable. Service is slow and semi-friendly. Food is also pretty average. Great for dogs though with the outdoor seating. Despite being a frequent VB visitor, I won't be back. The general store next door makes more passable (still average) coffee.
Great home-made food. From spanakopita to sausage rolls and gourmet breakfast. A little pricey bit they sell their own jam and other goods. It's worth a visit, but maybe not if you are in a hurry.
When I usually go, the service is warm and friendly but today, there was some tension. The busier it got, the more irate and harried the staff were. Maybe they could hire more to help.
The coffee is an absolute disaster.come on guys, I am sure you can make it better.use better beans, get a better barista.you are the only cafe in this town.make a coffee that your customers deserve.
Friendly and helpful staff serving great coffee and delicious fresh banana bread. Our kids loved it! Staff were friendly and helpful, especially when dealing with a rude and unreasonable customer.
Called in on a Sunday for a coffee and lunch. It was near empty, there was no chips available because they hadn’t turned the fryer on. We both got a pie and they where microwaved to warm them up making them soggy and made them shrink to half the size they where in the cabinet. The food was extremely overpriced for the quality, coffees where just ok you would get nicer from a coles coffee machine.
Great service, fantastic burgers, fresh fruit juices, lots of extras in the shop (jams, wine and gift packs). GF and lactose free options available. You can eat at the front, inside or at the back patio. They are also dog friendly, with bowls of water served for your puppy with every meal outside! Easy access and plenty of parking in the street.
I love this joint and go almost daily when we're in town. Bangin' coffee and they can do all your funny milks no problem. Friendly service and delicious food.

Delightful little cafe with yummy food, , good coffee, excellent friendly service, hidden but wonderful rear courtyard, unusually clean & practical restrooms. Should be more of these good quality cafes!
Bad coffee, stale dry cakes, over priced, completely inflexible menu (only poached eggs, no scrambled). The only reason people go in this place is because there is nowhere else to go in Venus Bay. Do yourself a favour a drive 5 mins to Tarwin and the cafe next to IGA (The Bird and the Wolf).
Beautiful breakfast, coffee and smoothies. We were staying in the local caravan park and came here three times for breakfast out of the four days we stayed in Venus Bay. The area was super busy, yet the quality of food and service was not compromised. Not sure why it has 3.8 stars when everything was actually fantastic!
Long waits to order. They serve one then do other things finally come back to serve one more. Good is basic, definitely NOTHING gourmet about the place. 1 child order came out after we had all finished and ready to go. Food average and if you order say a sausage roll.thats it. Not salad or such. Prices $$$$$. NEVER going back
Went here for breakfast. The service was amazing. Food was delicious & definitely my favourite breakfast spot in Venus bay.
The home-made is sooo good
$22.50 for a party pie tasted like cat food, decided to up the anti and purchase a bacon and egg sandwich which was served with raw bacon and a silicone like egg and the pig was still oinking, in all seriousness I was thoroughly disappointed and would not recommend.
Nice coffee and freshly baked muffins - I had a savoury muffin which was served with a generous amount of butter and tomato relish. Staff also very lovely. Family friendly (although not sure if there are nappy change facilities). Lots of gluten free options too.
Friendly staff, great coffee & yummy homemade food. It gets very busy during holiday periods but is well worth the wait.
DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE.
First of all, the menu was incorrectly priced. Menu price on their system was different to hand out menus, was overcharged in an unfair manner
For a 22 dollar egg benedict I excpected good quality food, but was given 2 pieces of white toast with watered down hollandaise sauce, which was an absolute let down
The iced coffee did feel overpriced at 8 dollars, but it was quite adequate and the ice cream was a nice touch, which was appreciated.
To conclude, for a 30 dollar eggs Benedict and coffee, it was very below average and an terrible food quality management.
