The Australian Ballet reviews
61Thank you for putting on swan lake. It’s beautiful costumes wonderful dancing magnificent if I could give you 10 stars I would
Watching Swan Lake performed by the Australian Ballet is one of my life's peak enriching experiences. I was so moved by the mesmerising performances of the talented dancers, beautiful music and stunning costumes. It was my husband's first ballet and we both loved, loved, loved it.
A fabulous performance, with extraordinary precision and athleticism. Love the eloquent pas de deux and the exuberant Puck and the point work of Bottom.
The Ballets were beautiful, and the price reasonable. Two shorter Ballets worked well, so it was a memorable occasion.
My 1st Oz ballet was to see Romeo & Juliette in the early 2000's with my daughter aged 8yrs. Was hooked. She hasnt seen the ballet for ages due to uni's, gap years, marrying, kids. I treated her to this for a her birthday and we loved it. Thankyou so much. Her husband had to abandon the ticket I got for him as their baby sitter fell through, which is a real shame as I wanted to teach him about this so he can start taking my daughter and his daughter (5yrs) and his son later (2yrs). He has never been to anything like this. Rats.
I dont know why the above came up. That was a review I did for a previous ballet childrens ballet, Cindarella, last year. I will leave it, in case it did not get posted and hope it does now.
For, The Dream / Marguerite and Armand. It was great, loved it. I wish I had bought tickets for my daughhter and grand daughter. I had no idea it would be so magical, even with little fairy wings. Loved the music for both. The dancing superb. A wonedrful contrast between the two sessions.
Thankyou.
Beyond extraordinary. I have woken up still thinking about the performance! Such a brilliant and exciting direction for the Australian Ballet. An absolute MUST SEE!
Swan Lake was a beautiful ballet experience and it was extra special to witness Amber Scott’s final performance.
Absolutely beautiful production
The orchestra were superb
The dancers all magnificent
Magical!
Giselle with the Tokyo Ballet Company was sensational - such precision and wonderful dancing.
However the experience was disappointing at the end when people stood up from the first curtain call and I was unable to see the stage. I had dodged the 2 tall women in front of me all through the performance but to not be able to see all the curtain calls from the wonderful dancers, especially the principals and on the last night, was upsetting. I remember when Dame Margot had 10 curtain calls at the Palais and I saw them all! It seems to be a more recent thing - people doing a standing ovation from the start of the curtain calls! Perhaps a message to audience members to consider those around them?
After more than 40 years of season's tickets with the Australian Ballet I am seeing a new audience who seem to be unaware of those around them.
Despite this the Australian Ballet has gone from strength to strength and continues to deliver outstandingly varied performances to cater to all tastes.
Thank you.
Amazing production of Harlequinade- the set designs, the costumes, the choreography and the story and slapstick humour was wonderful- highly enjoyable! And how lovely to be invited to watch the announcement of the Australian Ballet's newest Principal dancer- congratulations to Sharni Spencer!
Another beautiful performance from The Australian Ballet. Fantastic guest artist that brought special flair and it was lovely to watch so many beautiful ballet students from Victorian ballet schools.
Harlequinade was a great experience. Spectacular and full of colour. The dancing was right up to the level of perfection we have come to expect from the company. The children added an unexpected touch to the ballet. They performed admirably.
This production was so much more impressive than Kunstkamer, which while technically challenging, became somewhat boring as there was a sameness about the various acts.
Harlequinade: The dancing was up to its usual very high standard, the costumes beautiful and the children delightful. However, the ballet itself was an interesting historical curiosity, but not one I would look forward to seeing again. To me, it was not in the league of its historical cohort (Swan Lake et al) nor anywhere near the amazing performance of Kurstkamer (I was able to see this twice in the one week and look forward to it being performed again soon). There are many more ballets in the ballet repertoire that I would love to see revived rather than see Harlequinade again. A pretty and enjoyable, but not necessarily memorable, evening (as Kurstkamer was). My 3 stars refer mainly to the ballet itself, not the performers or production.

Harlequinade - Another fabulous visual and aural treat by the marvellous Australian Ballet. Love, love loved it. So much so, am going to see it again!
I loved this ballet, it was light and bright. The music was soft when it needed to be and lively when it needed to be. The dancers were wonderful and the two main characters played great roles and danced beautifully, both together and apart. The costumes, as usual for the Australian ballet, were eye catching. I was enthralled by the beautiful dancing and appreciate the wonderful skills of the dancers from the Australian Ballet Company.
"Harlequinade" was an evening of pure fun. Absolute bliss. The sets were amazing and complemented the dancing and music to perfection. Plaudits are due to all the dancers. The younger ones obviously had a ball.
Brought our 12 year old granddaughter for her first ballet experience and couldnt have chosen a more colourful fun dance
This was a beautiful and light hearted ballet with a high skill level of dance as well as some humour. The cast had a number of youth dancers who added a special perspective and a good indication of the quality of dancers to come in the future. Special mention to Adam Bull who was very theatrical and brilliant as Pierrot and Marcus Morelli who played Harlequin and whose was super lithe and light-footed in his dance. An astounding ballet success for The Australian Ballet.
Wow. I was blown away by the gorgeous costumes and music. It was lovely to see young ballet students in the production too. They will be inspired I imagine to continue their training. Marcus Morelli was delightful as Harlequin, Adam Bull was also hilarious as Pierrot, the chorus and supporting dancers seemed to be particularly fabulous in this production. I would have enjoyed a bit more commentary about the music. There were definite pieces of Tchaikovsky in it and I wondered where they came from. I am now keen to see the performance with a different cast and thankfully I can do this with the new option of purchasing a recorded performance. Thankyou AB for giving us this option
Amazing fouttes Benedicte!
