The Ambitious Act reviews
46Warm and cozy gem of a place with really great coffee. Can’t believe I stumbled upon this place in my neighborhood by chance! 10/10 would recommend
Yeah, the coffee was great, the service very efficient and friendly and the food is different, delicious and interesting. Heaps of vegan dishes on offer too. My first time there this morning and I felt welcome as soon as a walked in. This place is getting excellent reviews for good reason, it's a quality cafe.
We have always thought this is just a cafe but turns out they are vegan restaurant too. They open for brunch and dinner. The chickun tasted almost like real deal and the drizzled sauce is very addictive. The pot stickers are juicy and great. The shepherd pie is hearty and fulfilling.

6* for the guys. Food always looked gorgeous, though most of the time we visited for coffee, it became out local go-to for as it was so good. Everyone's super polite and friendly:)
Superb eatery for vegans and vegetarians!
Cuba sandwich and Mr Beans highly recommended.
Fantastic cafe; went for brunch, the food was delicious (great menu), really good coffee, nice decor, and friendly staff. One of the best cafes I’ve been too in melb.
Great service, very friendly and no effort with accommodating to dietary needs. Good coffee and very reasonably priced. Will go back and highly recommended
Actors haven and great food a place where you can run actors workshops up stairs have meetings and enjoy Vegan food wine n beer abd if course coffee
2/3 dishes we had were great, 1 was ok. Coffee was good but not amazing. Service was a highlight - really friendly and helpful. Not perfect, but I'd recommend it anyway.
You've gotta check out this independent coffee shop and vegetarian cafe! It's run by actors for actors. Space upstairs to rent out for events and performances. And the food is great too!
Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Lookout for discount drinks when you dine early. That was a nice surprise. There is also a secret lounge
Really great cafe! The service was just so warm and comforting, felt like best friends with the waiter.
I felt the menu was a little too vegan focused, I would have liked vegan and non vegan options (such as the hollandaise) but there are more than enough non-vegan cafes to choose from, so props for doing something different, especially helping out the local arts scene, I'll try and visit again when I'm in Melbourne next!
Food was so good I forgot to take a photo! Delicious homemade desserts and perfect coffee every time
Boutique café, next door to Cloudwine Cellars. Kitschy arty style, which makes me feel right at home. Aussies love kitsch, and especially artists are at home in such environments. Which is good as this place is for artists, hence their business name.
The menu covers both breakfast and lunch and is called the Brunch Menu, set-up as a play script, cute touch, with a separate Drinks Menu. All so sensible.
As a first time visitor, I thought I'd go with one of my fave actors, the Jack Nicholson (refer to the part-menu photo for the ingredients). He did not disappoint. The only recommendation I made is to aim for a finer shred of cabbage (I like to protect my teeth!).
Hours are 7days 7-4, with Wed-Sat open until 9pm. Which is handy as they are hosting a Murder Mystery night on 15nov, which will utilize the entire two-storey premises. All budding actors are encouraged to book. Sounds like fun!
Offerings: Organic, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, Wi-Fi, plain sparkling mineral water (no, not on the menu, for some reason). I'd say budget priced and good value.
A cafe where you feel at home as soon as you walk through the doors. We loved visiting this cafe in South Melbourne. Staff are very welcoming and are up for a chat, coffee is great and so was the warm banana bread. Love the deco, the chairs are comfy and it’s a place for creatives to hang. We will definitely visit again soon.
We love this place and come here all the time! Already tried a few things off the menu and can't wait to try it all!
Best coffee and fresh juices! We come here all the time for a take away drink and decided to try a meal too - we were not disappointed! Curry with vegan 'chicken' and a BLT with vegan 'bacon'. So delicious!
Such a cute little cafe in South Melbourne! My new regular for delicious coffee and vegan treats!
The best coffee in Melbourne! Seriously, these guys are the bomb! Check them out and thank me later!
What I love about living in southbank is the fact that It’s full of hidden gems! Such as this cafe, I only knew about it recently and I like it so much. Great atmosphere, warm welcoming vibes, and friendly staff. While the first floor is like having a coffee in an art gallery; the second floor is also fabulous, it’s a prefect place to work or study a little. I can confidently say that I can recognise the passion behind each coffee cup being served at this place.
Hint: the food here looks delightful.
