The Abyssinian Restaurant reviews
80 The food was delicious! Highly recommend coming with friends and ordering the platter.
Not a fan of the waiter telling us that we didn’t have a booking and that the restaurant doesn’t take bookings for 7pm anyway, until we showed our email with a 7pm reservation.
Really lovely place.been here a few times.very ambient, lovely decorations and staff are friendly and happy for a chat.food is served fast and is very good.prices are a touch high but everything else is spot on so well worth it.great for a special event.highly recomend and will be back here soon
Really nice food. My companion and I enjoyed it all - a variety of meats, pulses, vegetables and salad. And all encased in the traditional bread. Utterly delicious
During a weekend getaway with five of my friends, we had the absolute pleasure of visiting this hidden gem. The highlight was undoubtedly the chef's platter, a definite "must-try". Opting for the non-vegetarian option, we were treated to an array of halal delights, ranging from vegetarian dishes to succelent meats, poultry, and fish cuisines. A delightful journey to our taste buds, leaving us both content and amused by the variety. Btw, everyone eats with their hands directly from the same plate here, so it'll be quite a unique experience for first-timers
The restaurant exudes an authentic ambiance, testament to its decor and overall vibe. All the staff were also super friendly! I'd recommend making reservations in advance to skip potential waiting time tho. Overall, i'm looking forward to returning.
The food was absolutely delicious, such a unique experience. The staff were very friendly and kind and the atmosphere was very warm and special.
We’ll have to come back next time we’re visiting Melbourne
Great food and authentic warm hospitality! Some nice Ethiopian beers and a small but good wine list.
Generally disappointing. My husband and I came into a mostly empty restaurant just after six on a Monday without a reservation and were told that there was only one table next to a large group available to us. Just then a couple finished, and I asked if we could sit at that table by the window, and were told no that it wasn't available. We placed our order and almost immediately another couple came in without a reservation and were given the very table that I had asked about. This was done blatantly in front of us. I almost got up and left, it was so rude. We finished our meal to a still mostly empty restaurant crammed to capacity with furniture. Also, they were out of shiro.
I've eaten at a lot of ethiopian food restaurants all over the world. There non-teff injera was good, but the rest if the food was just so-so.
Response: COUPLE DEFINITELY DID NOT HAVE A RESERVATION. We heard them say so. Because of your response, I have reduced my two stars reviee to one.
This place always takes me back home to Africa, whenever I am craving some home comfort food, I make it a point to visit The Abyssinian. Very authentic African food served with equally warm African hospitality.
Great place to have a nice dinner. The food is simple but very tasty. The menu is simple to understand.
The staff is super friendly and the service is even faster. The Ethiopian beer is great too.
The decor is very beautiful and is not over powering with the setup of the theme.
If you are lucky you get to park right outside. Or there is always the side streets and a short stroll.
Must go and will be back again. Cheers.
Amazing food including vegan options, I don’t have words to describe how much I love the Tumtummo. Thank you!
The best Ethiopian I have had, though I cannot determine how authentic as I have only had Ethiopian food in Melbourne. The platter is the best value item to order, with 8 separate dishes served on Injera bread.
Delicious East African Food! Worth checking out. Got the share meal for 3 and there was 4 of us. Was good size for all of us to share. We got goat, beef, chicken and fish for proteins. Veggie dishes were lentils, pumpkin, potato and beans.
Wonderful food with incredible flavours and great service from friendly staff. Everything stewed to utmost perfection. Thank you!
Wow! First time to try northern African food and was not disappointed. Excellent service. Very friendly!
Wow! Food was simply amaysing! Great service. Friendly staff as well. Ethiopian coffee was excellent.
The Abyssinian is an experience!
I've never had food quite like it before.
We came in a group of 4, and although some didn't like the sourness of the injera, I grew quite fond of the yeast.
The platter definitely is worth trying. You get a bit of everything, and there are some very great highlights.
I am definitely coming here again and I recommend you go out of your comfort to try too!
Our favourite place to get Ethiopian, been coming here for years! The food is super tasty, great value and good service.
All I can say is WOW! Food and service were absolutely amazing! Thank you for hosting us tonight.no doubt we will be back!
We had the meat and veg for 2,
It is Indian food only, we have lamb rogan josh, amritsar fish, boiled goat and chicken curry with channa dal, pickle, Lima beans stew and chickpea stew, with salad in the centre.
It was very tasty but the only difference was the way it was served on top of etheopian roti in a big plate where my hubby and I both ate from together.
Fantastic restaurant. Unique and fun atmosphere and food to match. Down to earth, tonnes of flavour. Great staff. Very accomodating. Would love to work my way through the menu. Could not fault a thing.
