Terra Madre reviews
64It is an old type of shop, with small allies to walk and browse. However the store has lots of variety of organic goods.
They have a wide range variety but no customer service and I spent 300 dollars on Saturday only to find the bread mouldy I tried to call them no answer that’s just against health regulations if I don’t hear back I’ll be complaining to the health authorities
Amazing products and I’ve shopped here for years— but one star for the surly white dude who doesn’t smile and one star for the hipster service staff who lack any personality other than surly, insouciant and vague.
I’ve been coming here for years and spend hundreds on groceries here every week. I’ve put up with lukewarm reception from checkout staff in the past because I do like the range and prices aren’t too bad. This morning though the young lady that served me at the checkout was extremely and unnecessarily rude and has me thinking that I may be going to an alternative place to shop in the future rather than subjecting myself to that rudeness again! As the previous review stated, hostile checkout staff, no thanks!
The only shop I've ever been in, where the girl serving you, just stares at her phone while she scans your items and couldn't care less that you're standing in front of her. Maybe whilst she's on her phone, she could look up a training guide on customer service.
Other than that, great organic supermarket with reasonably priced food. However, it's a bit of a rabbit warren and takes a few visits to learn where everything is.
Beautiful customer service really good looking workers a cute young man named Riley was very polite and helpful with me finding the right organic granola for my diet I would recommend anyone to come here I love this shop
Always worth the drive up from the Mornington Peninsula for our bulk shopping needs and a nice day out
Best organic shop in Melbourne. By a mile. Incredible range, prices fantastic for organic food, often on a par with the prices of the industrial food we buy elsewhere. The staff have always been helpful and friendly, with the only exception being on a couple of Sundays: they seem to have a less-good crew on then. And I've reduced my rating to 4 stars due to queuing issues. I'd like to give 3.5 stars. Today, Saturday 12 January 2019, set a new record for the length of time spent queuing and getting through the till: 15 minutes. Even the express queue looked slowish. Saturday 9 March 2019, the shop was unusually empty, and I had a smaller than usual 12 item shop, but it still took 11 minutes to get through the checkout. Most of that time was spent queuing. I suspect you just have to expect a long wait. Saturday morning 11 May 2019, a new record, 18 minutes. Almost all of it spent queuing. Sigh. Saturday 18 May 2019,19 minutes. Saturday 23 November 2019,21 minutes!? They are not learning. January 2022: even with COVID reducing the number of customers, it means they have reduced till staff, so I still had a 10 minute wait to buy 6 items.
Always busy, not accessible very narrow. Excellent range and fantastic for starting the zero waste journey!
Good produce, with a community, local business experience. Once you look past the feeling of sanctimonious morale high-ground and inflated prices, it’s a worthwhile venture.
They NEVER answer their phone. Tried 10 times. This is really rude, considering this forces you to go there in person - taking 30 mins of YOUR time, when they could have just answered the phone and spent 30 SECONDS of theirs. If you're not organised enough to have staff to answer the phone, stop being STINGY!
The one and only. It’s an institution of value organics. Buyer beware on a few items that aren’t quality here and there.
Update: I’m told that local organic growers have a hard time getting their produce in the shop due to store practices. If that’s true I really wish TM would support local growers more and take the time to explain to consumers the difference between local organic and imported.
Friendly and helpful staff! Found a huge selection of organic essential oils. They also have a section where you can try their essential oils!
Such a shame.used to be a fave but now I completely avoid Terra Madre. I understand, from reading a previous response, that you are not allowed to ask for proof of mask exemption however there is no visible sign at the entrance, requesting for masks to be worn in the store. No encouragement at all. I'm a local and a see time and time again that the same entitled non maskers are also not checking in.no doubt they are largely also all anti-vaxxers. And these customers are now visiting the store en masse - word must be out in their selfish, me-centric community. I am far from the only local now avoiding shopping here.just not worth the risk.
Good organic shop. I went in just out of curiosity, meaning no shopping bag with me. Alas, although they sell reusable bags, they're not cheap. I just wanted a brown paper bag. Although it was a struggle, I was still able to handle my purchase without a bag. I'll bring a bag next time.
It’s a very good feeling to shop here and not be questioned by entitled people for not wearing a mask. I don’t wear one for medical reasons, but this has been the only place in this area that had not made me feel uncomfortable about it.
Thank you to the management for correctly educating your staff. 10 out of 10 service
First time i have been at Terra Madre in ages.found the store rather cramp, narrow aisles.i think a large store is needed to spread out more? But the lady who served me was very pleasant.
Used to be a great store.but atm all i see are people who believe they are entitled to break the law. Everytime i enter the store there are numerous people not wearing masks at all. Its very frustrating.saddens me.staff say and do nothing. Its impossible for that many people to have exemptions.disappointing
My local place to shop for organic fruit and vegetables, plus almost everything else you can buy at a supermarket. Ethically sourced, many products packed in paper, or recyclables. Vast array of beauty products, vitamins and minerals. Bonsoy and other plant based milks, at prices cheaper than supermarkets. Cow dairy too. Cheeses and vegan cheeses available too. Fair trade coffee and teas, free range meat, vegan and vegetarian food at prices that are reasonable. I also recommend the wide variety of gluten free products. There's often long queues that snake through the 3 shop frontages (near Palace Cinema Westgarth) but they move quite quickly. Staff are friendly. Naturopaths and massage therapists available too. Check during COVID when they're available. I've been shopping here for more than 30 years back when it was one shop called The Fruit Pedaller hence the life size papier mache statue on the awning of a woman pedalling a bike.
Such a gem of a place, with so many products and good value prices. Staff are friendly and usually knowledgeable too
