Taste of Chennai reviews
39Food is great. I’ve visited this place thrice already and they have always met my expectations. I’d recommend this place for those who are looking for authentic South Indian tiffins. They are delicious and remind you of your home country food.
2 hungry people go to Taste of Chennai
2 hungry people expect their food to be served together because they BOTH are hungry
2 hungry people do NOT get their food at the same time because the kitchen can handle only one dish at a time?
One person gets their food, eats it completely and then has to go and enquire about the other person’s food. The reply was “it’s on its way”.
Then after 5 minutes of enquiring, the second hungry person’s food comes
Food is delicious but what’s the point if hungry people can’t have it all together?
Had a very bad upset stomach. Ordered Gobi Manchurian, Kothu rotti and fried rice. The gobi and kothu felt a bit off from the time I opened the box. The gobi had a bad smell and kothu tasted bitter. Never had such bad food poisoning in my life. Please serve fresh food. I am originally from Chennai and I thought I can give this place a go, but was a really bad experience.
Awesome place to chill out. No judgments on customers and food were really good, just like home. When we ordered tea and it was missing sugar the server was not only apologetic but instantly bought some sugar packs for me. Really great Dosa and sprout Idly if you wanna visit an Original Chennai taste do give them a chance.
Lack of Professionalism
Charged. 30 cents surcharge without informing and no signs mentioned.
Manipulate the prices.charged for chicken spice powder while I bought fish spice powder.
Can do better.
Best South Indian food in Melbourne probably.
Dishes I tried here:
Mutton biriyani - the best seeraga samba biriyani which is on par with venu biriyani / dindigal thalapakatti biriyani. Must try
Sprout idly - loved it. This is must try if you like Tamil Nadu style sambar
Pav bhaji- really good
Great food and great service.
A bunch of tables in a grocery store with what might have been the owner's family cooking in the kitchen. The menu has a selection of South Indian dishes that seemed pretty good (along with some Chinese that we didn't try). Despite being nearly empty, the service was very slow and they refused to provide tap water, so we had to pay for bottled water. If you can put up with this then the food is worth it.
Everything we tried from dosa to biryani to pav bhaji was delicious. Appreciated the service and hospitality. Since it is partially a grocery store also, atmosphere is not of a typical restaurant.
Everything is made to perfection and authenticity.some things do take a bit more of a wait but its worth it! 100% recommend.
Best mutton biriyani I had in Melbourne. Authentic Chennai mutton biriyani taste and smell. Will definitely go back again.
Amazing food, It reminded me of real taste of South Indian food when I was in Chennai. Far best South Indian food in Melbourne. Business owner prepared the meal himself.
Taste of Chennai is the place I’d visit with my family every week. Parotta with serva and Dahi puri is a must order and it’s one of the finest restaurants in Melbourne that offers high quality Indian food. I’d recommend this place as a must visit and Bhaskar and his team does an extraordinary job in delivering best in class food.
The food was amazing but after we were told it would ready in 40 min, we arrived and had to wait for another 20 min. Also dine in took over an hour and each meal came out 20 min apart. Really disappointed that there was no apology and no warning.
Very good food, been here a few times, and the quality and taste of food is excellent. The sambar tastes super authentic and the vada is really good too. Must eat!
Food was perfect anf full of flavours. Teally liked the quality and quantity if food. Highly recommended.
Was craving for some South Indian food and happy with the food served. Definitely recommend, don’t forget to try the filter coffee when you are here!
Amazing food. Best Dosa and Filter coffee I had in Melbourne. Chicken biriyani was top notch. Goat biriyani was good, but I would prefer chicken biriyani. Service was bit delayed. If they could manage everything well it will be perfect
I ordered chicken noodles today. I was disgusting chicken was not at good. My stomach is upset
Don’t eat from here also they have charged 17$ for chicken noodles too much and quality is pooooor.
Came here for lunch. Food was really good. Everything from idli, dosa to biryani and mango lassi tasted excellent. Owner was really friendly.
Must visit place.
Good, wholesome, authentic, healthy food, with some great South Indian flavours. Will definitely be back!
