Taquito reviews
30They have the best ceviche (it is a ceviche of the day type beat tho) and elote ever! The tacos were amazing too (we got pork, fish, and crab)! They also offer amazing drinks, we particularly liked the spicy mezcal margarita
Popped in for an unplanned lunch and we weren’t disappointed. Really friendly and attentive service. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The Gazpacho was so refreshing. The Morcilla Tacos were gorgeous, will be back just for them.
Delicious food, great service, cool place, only wish the tables would have a little more space between each other
Really good all round amazing guacamole and beef tacos as well as some interesting choices for tacos fillings. Would have liked a few other taco variations but can not complain overall.
Highly recommend the beef cheek tacos!
Great place to catch up with friends. Food portion sizing is small so order more!
Not such kids friendly menu.
Cant help but feel ripped off.
Tiny food portions when ordering banquet in a bigger group compared to when I came with only 1 other person last time.
Yet the $70 cost is the same.
Pretty niche issue to have but it will probably mean I dint come back here.
Walked out still hungry.
Its a shame because the food is otherwise veryhungry and well made.
Taquito is a Mexican bar and eatery in Carlton. They handmake their tortillas from scratch and even grow their own chillies and herbs. I highly recommend booking a table in advance because they can get booked out quickly. You’ll either be seated in the front home-style dining area or the back which is a much larger space with high ceilings and an open kitchen. You can also opt for their Set Menu for $70pp, or order A La Carte.
Had we gone and only tried their tacos, I would give them a higher rating but unfortunately I was slightly let down, mainly by the tuna ceviche. For 5 small cuts of fish for $31, it really didn’t wow us enough to justify the price. The fish itself had very little flavour, I did enjoy the pistachio cream but the sour/spicy watermelon dressing didn’t do enough for it. We finished it in two seconds and felt ripped off.
The potatoes on the other hand were great - really crispy on the outside even though it was dressed in the tangy salsa and creamy aioli. I’d recommend if you’re a potato fiend!
Our tacos were fantastic. Be warned that they’re pretty small tacos, so we ordered a flight of four each. Instantly loved that their tortillas were housemade with corn rather than flour. Our favourite was the chicken - really juicy and flavourful, all it needed was a drizzle of lime and it was great as is. The ox tail, whilst not a typical protein option on a Mexican menu, was particularly tender and juicy. The fish and steak were also winners. They all had great flavour, nothing was lack lustre. Staff provide you with their complementary housemade chilli sauce if you’re looking for that spicy kick.
If you go for anything, go for their tacos and order a few of them if you’re hungry. I obviously can’t vouch for anything else on the menu besides the potatoes, but I’ve heard their corn is great too. Taquito is a great option for Mexican in Melbourne, and I’d recommend! I just think their prices vs portions could be tweaked, but it’s a sign of the times.
Great location, fantastic staff and amazing food. Tacos are the best I've had in Melbourne
Cute and quirky atmosphere - quite liked it. Limited menu though, food was mostly ok - a bit disappointed in the tacos.
Looking at the menu everything sounded great. Amazing ingredients, interesting combinations. However upon arrival it was a bit underwhelming. Snapper ceviche was bland. Kangaroo tartare was unbalanced and overly salty. The fish tacos were stodgy and boring, being adorned with only a small amount of cabbage then drowned in mayonnaise. The drinks were interesting but not amazing. Honestly the highlight of the night was the tortilla chips and guacamole. Staff were great but I definitely didn't leave feeling like I'd spent $130 well.
Food was fine but staff were very lackadaisical and service was slow, it took us over 3 hours to eat all of our courses.
Fabulous little bar/restaurant with a wide variety of food and drink. It is a great mixture of alive and quiet. Food is impeccable. 5/5
Came in for some work drinks & food the other night, was a great atmosphere! And the cocktails are awesome!
Will be back
First rate. My experience with Mexican food has been mixed - at best. Not this place! Lovely fresh food - we didn't get to try much - but the selection of tacos were most enjoyable! The 'Tommy's margarita' makes the standard version look very pedestrian. Friendly, on-the-ball staff made it a pleasure to be there. We'll be back - with new customers!
Service was so good, and the tacos were out of this world
As soon as we tried them we knew we'd be coming back!
Definitely recommend the fish tacos
Went here for the first time the other night. Food was so delicious, staff were helpful and friendly, great vegetarian options. Highly recommended.
Visited Taquito for dinner on a weeknight, the restaurant is nicely styled and staff are nice but could be more attentive with service.
The food was underwhelming and overpriced, I will not be coming back here again.

Outstanding, the quality the vibe and the staff.
The energy and quality of food was amazing. I loved each bite. I wish I could have eaten more but I was full.
I was very happy and I cannot wait to go again for a great feast.
The mixed taco plate is the way to go especially for variety. Margaritas are well made. A place I keep finding myself going back to
Fabulous food and drink, and the service is excellent. Authentic Mexican food - the micheladas and margaritas are a must!
