探鱼 TANYU

I sat by the window and the glass was completely dirty. They're obviously selling grilled fish, they order it spicy, and they bring a big pot of soup, so why don't you sell boiled fish?

Tanyu is famous for grilled fish and are in over 70 major cities in China and have over 300 restaurants. The new Melbourne branch offers a selection of flavors to choose from like sweet and savory, spicy, and sour, there's a grilled fish for everyone.

You can pick between 2 fishes, 700g murray cod for $68 or 1-1.2kg Qing Jiang Fish (清江鱼 王牌推荐) for $88. Murray cod was delicious, tender and doesn't have too many small bones. For those who want a little bit of spice, Chinese Sauerkraut is the perfect peppery, savoury and sour flavour for you. Keen to try the signature green pepper next time but worried I might start breathing fire. The dish comes with 2 halves of a whole fish, potato slices and onion so add more veges if you want to soak up the sauce with it - must order the nice homemade tofu to savour with the fish and sauce. Everything comes out cooked as the fish pot is just to keep the dish warm (its not a hotpot so won't boil). The brown sugar rice cakes here are chewy and yummy too!

I've been here several times and it's always good. It tastes particularly delicious and the fish is very fresh. However, the waiter may be a newbie and is a bit fussy.

The green peppercorn-flavored grilled fish we ordered was very good and delicious. My companions all liked the taste.
The service is average, it would be better if it were more enthusiastic and attentive.
The atmosphere is small and exquisite, and the location is well laid out. Small but not messy, clean, tidy and comfortable.
Friends who like to eat grilled fish can try it

Lovely service from staff, very tasty and authentic dishes and inviting decor. The fish was tender, full of flavour. The skewers were cooked and seasoned well. Loved the refreshing drinks that came with the drink combo! Recommend a visit to taste authentic Chinese grilled fish

First of all, I am sincerely sorry for being late for today's reservation. I had already made apology to the waiters upon arrival, but their actions were extremely rude and impolite. The waiters have no manners in terms of serving the dishes, not to mention about any other customer service. What's more ironic, the waiter and waitress were chatting the whole time at the counter while we were eating. They did not even care about the customers were still at the table. Please be PROFESSIONAL, the restaurant is NOT the place for dating.

Absolutely my favourite place to eat with friends! The grilled fish is delicious and of high quality. We visit at least once a month!

Ordered their grilled fish with green pepper. Numbing but not super spicy. The Murray cod meat was luscious and meaty.soaking in that tasty broth

A nice dining experience in our local neighbourhood. The sauce for the cod fish is the highlight for my daughter, she loved it so much, though i am on the spicy side - but anything for her taste. Next time maybe try the spicy sauce. The prawn roll very delicious. The drinks look fun and nice, recommended to try though it is expensive

Good grilled fish dish, it's 80% replicating the authentic flavour from its original store in China. I would recommend!

It said please wait here at the door, so I stood at the door and waited for someone to take my seat. There was a waiter standing just outside the bar, two meters away from me and making eye contact with me. It was as if she was waiting for me to walk over first and ask her to take a seat. It wasn't until the waiter at the bar looked up and saw me that he generously asked me who was there. Do you have a reservation? Shouldn't we put people with no sense of service at the front desk?

I really like the fish. I really enjoyed its tender texture with spiced tasty.
Definitely will come again!

I’ve tasted Tanyu in Singapore & Malaysia previously, it was amazing so I sort of know what to expect when I pay my visit - but this time round we went for the green pepper (not spicy) version instead of their signature (spicy) version because we weren’t feeling spicy that day! I agree that there should be some improvement within the sauces but overall the fish itself was fresh and juicy, which we appreciate. Location itself is strategic, pretty close to the BH train station.

Tastes exactly the same as their stores in china! The silky tofu thats comes with the fish is sooo good!

A bit expensive but really good taste. Recommend the grilled fish with the fresh green pepper. Great flavour!

The spicy grilled fish is delicious~ A small portion of grilled fish for three people is enough~
