SULHWA AUSTRALIA reviews
25I don’t understand the hype for this place. So overated! Melon bingsu was presented with 6 melon balls and the guy brought it out dropped 1 without saying sorry or anything. They clearly could have scooped some more melon for us because the melon looks so thick and that left no room for the shaved-milk. If anything the cheesecake was the better one. Overall, i went on a public holiday, pay the extra surcharge for a lesser quality
Sulhwa's bingsoo is by far the best bingsoo I've had in Melbourne, the combination of the crunchy and fluffy texture makes them different from other bingsoo place.
My personal favorite would be the Melon 2.0 bingsoo, as its perfect for the summer weather. The staff working there are also all very friendly which helped create a very welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely come back!
Don’t judge a book by its cover.
It looks really good, like the level of detail is exceptional. But when it comes to taste and flavours, it doesn’t hold up.
What’s even worse is that there is a minimum spend per person (yes it’s only $8 PP but patrons should not be forced into spending money). Let me tell you why this is a bad thing, there is a bakery/coffee shop not too far from this one where you can buy one coffee and stay for hours, but the thing is since the cakes and desserts on offer there are so good, I always end up spending more and more money there and I do it because of the quality and service that I receive, not because I’m being forced to buy a mediocre product. To be fair, the dessert at sulhwa doesn’t taste bad, it’s just brutally average.
Also the shop is dirty! The floors are starting to turn black and sticky, the skirting boards are disgusting, I wonder when was the last time it got a good clean (see attached photo)
The cafe itself is pretty nice and the service is standard. However, I personally didn't enjoy the rabbit jelly that much. The flavor was a bit bland and it wasn't cold enough. There are other dessert options like the shortcake that looks good.
Came here for their trending pudding! It’s such an unfortunate that the milk tea flavored one was sold out when I came in. This peach jasmine one still tasted really good though.
Satisfy my sweet tooth cravings, each dessert was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The atmosphere’s cozy, definitely will come back
I feel quite disappointed and cheated. Considering the price of $18.50, the portion I received was INCREDIBLY SMALL. I had high hopes for a bingsu like the one depicted in the first picture, but to my dismay, what arrived was more akin to the second picture. It would have been fair for the staff to inform customers beforehand that the watermelon bingsu with the skin is a SEASONAL THING, rather than me having to inquire them then only being informed about it.
Lesson learnt: Ask before placing an order, specifically whether the bingsu will be served WITH or WITHOUT the skin.
Overall, given the experience and the price, I cannot say that it was worth it.
Persimmon shaved ice was absolutely heavenly. The honey cream cheese with the sweet persimmon and crunchy salty biscuit were such a good combination. Such a shame it’s only a limited offering.
The service was exceptional, with the owner going out of her way to make more of the honey cream cheese, despite being only a half hour from closing.
I love the matcha cube cake here! It’s $15 but it’s definitely worth the experience. It’s not too sweet for someone like me, who doesn’t like sweets.
Highly recommend the bingsu here as well:)
- Injeolmi
- Mango
- Strawberry cheesecake
Are big favourites:)
Wowwww, went to their grand opening tonight & seriously had the best dessert ever? Tried almost everything on their cake menu & I love it all! Gotta try their mochi & hojicha basque cheesecake out of the world!
Great services too! Go and give it a try?
Warning there's a $10pp minimum spend if you want to eat here.
Server needs to change her attitude.
Gave us one napkin for 4 people.
We ordered the strawberry cheesecake and the classic melon.
Not much flavour, no where near as good as sulbing.
I wouldn't spend money here.
Watermelon bingsu
? Blueberry daifuku
pistachio choux
: @sulhwa_australia
: Little Collins St, CBD
: Sulhwa is back, this time at a new location on Little Collins St after a few months hiatus. Both the bingsu and small cakes were delicious, but one thing is thag the price of the patisseries and cake slices are STEEP so make sure you check the price before ordering!
️: I really liked the Watermelon Bingsu, so refreshing and light, perfect as we enter into summer. The Daifuku was so soft and chewy, and the cream inside was so light and tasty. The Pistachio Choux was probably my favorite. It’s topped with their own pistachio butter, tasted like almond butter but better.
Easily one of the nicest shaved ice places in the city. Refreshing, instagram-able, and not too pricey. Just be mindful that you might need to wait as they have limited seating area.
Incredible dessert experience at Sulhwa! Very friendly service from all the staff including Nicole and the food was amazing.
Great dessert place!
New location opened across Kathmandu store. Cozy, warm and nice place for dessert.
We order 3 things,
1) Ice Kacang - instead of shaved ice, they did the Bingsu ice shaving which is silky smooth and flufy.
2) Matcha cake with Miso - one of the nicest cake I've ever had, bitter salty and sweet.
3) blueberry cheesecake daifuku - Best on menu. We had the last one for the day so must be popular. I don't blame them running out since its Super Delish!
Love the bingsu here so soft like snow and toppings of fresh fruits which kids just love it. Definitely a go to place for a quick dessert fix regardless of hot or cold weather.
Sul Hwa offers some delicious Korean bingsu (shaved ice desserts) with interesting flavours and toppings. However, service and seating were average at best and there wasn’t much variety of bingsu options compared to competitors.
This is my favourite place to get Korean bingsu (shaved ice)!
Unlike another famous bingsu place in the CBD which has a long queue, the queue for this shop is not bad.
The bingsu has a taste in every bite even when you eat the ice only. The portion is quite generous too.
If you like bingsu, you should give this place a try.
Delicious Korean-Like Bingsu Ice-Cream held in a little Vietnamese cafe I think the business rents out the commericial kitchen in the evenings judging from their venue's surroundings for their start-up. Appreciate the healthy aspect of the natural flavors using fresh fruit embodied into the milky snow-ice (which taste like Condense Milk), not filled with artificial colouring or high-sugar flavors.
Its a very young University Crowd in their 20s hangout place so you will get a line in the late evenings. Not sure if it's suited to young families/Kids as there isn't alot of space for prams or large groups but definately nice to check out if your on a date after dinner or a get together with friends.
A pop up selling Korean bingsu (milk based shaved ice dessert).
We tried the injeolmi (roasted soy bean dust) with homemade mochi and the seasonal flavor of the day, which happens to be ice kacang (Malaysian style shaved ice topping)
The base of any bingsu, the milk-based ice, is extremely fine and fluffy here - very nice. The injeolmi (roasted soy bean dust) has a malty taste, and can be a little dry on the throat. The ice kacang flavour is there with crème corn, peanuts, palm seeds, grass jelly, red syrup, carnation milk, brown sugar, but for me, a little on the expensive side at $18.50.
Service is friendly and prompt.
