Straits Cafe reviews
56Every time we pop in it is full to brim and smells amazing. We gotta remember to book cos we we end up with take away. It ain't fancy decor but it is friendly with delicious food.
A clean, bustling eatery with simple decor doing alot of takeaways as well as dine ins. Fast service. The char kuay teow (fried flat noodles) suits my palate - unbeatable wok hei (smoky wok taste) amidst usual trimmings of egg, prawns, Chinese sausage, and crunchy fried pork fat *drool* Cute drinks such as Ribena Lychee doubles as a quencher and dessert. I would rate 4 stars for atmosphere as it reminds me of a typical no frills Malaysian resto…and features pictures of Malaysian landmarks
Straits Cafe has unfortunately misplaced its Oomph!
Had the crispy skin chicken rice and was very disappointed with the lack of aroma and flavour the dish is well known for.
Wasn’t impressed with the $19.50 price tag, for something so simple which, could have been done better.
Authentic Malaysian food, their laksa was delicious, and I finished the whole bowl of soup.
Delicious hokkien mee, enjoy the assam laksa, generally decent char kway teo but can be a bit hit or miss sometimes, and excellent sar hor fun. Pricing is getting more steep but it's the best local Malaysian in Wantirna area. Service is okay but they're very busy and straight to the point of getting you the food and out. You can also order online and opt for no msg along with other options. Dinner peak time gets very busy so be prepared to wait or order takeaway in advance for the convenience. Takeaway option is very good - the serving size and taste is still nice.
Authentic Malaysian fare. Everyone we had was great. Highlights included the sar hor fun and the char kway teo. Really quick and have high chairs, so great for families with young kids.
Great efficient service from the staff. Food served very fast upon ordering. Very good Malaysian hawker food with great flavour. Highly recommend.
Very good Char Kuay Teow and Sar Hor Fun. The noodles are very wide and authentic and provides a taste of home (Penang & Malaysia).
The Chee Cheong Fun is really good and very authentic. The Yee Mee is also very tasty and rich. And the Ice Kacang is a very nice dessert to finish our meal.
Have been coming here for a long time. Prices are slightly high for Malaysian but the food is very good. Standout is the char kuey teow for me.
Finally, CKT with si ham! And double the eggs. Twas yummy! My only query is “why were the si ham black? “ Are they canned ones or do Aussie clams turn black when fried?
I also ordered Hokkien char to take away. Can’t wait for dinner
Friendly service, with a bit of wait for the food as people were continually in and out.
Love this place. Authentic malay food! Great prices and great quality food. You won't be disappointed. Inside is nothing flash but worth the visit.
This is a very crowded and busy little place making me realise the food must be pretty good. Service was friendly and super quick, in fact quite amazingly so. Would be nice if the takeaway setup wasn't at the back of the restaurant as it increases the noise and busyness having people streaming past your table all the time! So it's not the place at all for a quiet romantic dinner, but if you're just interested in the food it's a winner!
We have had the food after a year, and the food was delicious. We ordered satay chicken, lobak, mixed vegetables, beef randang and crispy skin chicken. It all was to die for.
Best Malaysian. I don't know why I even try to cook CKT. This is the best I have ever eaten. As well as all thier other dishes. Love ️
Very good CKT, laksa, horfun. One of my fav place for malaysian food. But recently tried the pan mee, was very disappointed. Nevertheless most of their dishes are good and authentic.
Prices were reasonable and portion was OK. Nasi lemak, sek hor fan, crispy fried chicken were not bad. Curry laksa was OK and tasted more like "curry". Rojak was also OK. The Penang har mee was not as good as expected. I preferred the har mee at junior tan.
Food is just ok overall if you really miss Malaysian food, ask for spicy (hot) for takeaway and had 0 spicy taste, so check again before taking it back home.ask for chili and had a staff with sour face and gave me 1 small container for 3 different food, I order char koew tiow, hokien noodle and hor fun. The hokien noodles was very good hor fun sauce was to watery probably because I had it in the takeaway container so with the heat it become watery and also the hor fun had less vegetables in it.dining space is ok for about 30 diners and have ample of car park.
Ch a bad experience with this place when I called before reaching the restaurant. Then did not mention about booking a seat before arriving. When I arrived tell me the place is full and ask us to sit outside seats in the cold! The waitress was also very rude
Came here on an early Sat for a brunch meal and it was a full house when we arrived. We knew what we wanted, which were the popiah, lobak, har mee and tang hoon noodles.
The fried glass noodles (char tang hoon) is the best version we ever tried! The lobak was crispy and I was very happy that there were all individually wrapped and deep fried. Har mee has a rich flavour and it was full of umami-ness. Popiah was also equally scrumptious.
It was a satisfying meal and we were all very well fed. Must try if you crave for Malaysian food!
My new favourite place for Char Kuew Teow. It was my first time here as recommended by friends, and it's definitely not my last time. Will come back in the near future to try their Nasi Goreng and other Malaysian Cuisine dishes.
