Steiglitz Court House reviews
12Steiglitz is such an interesting place to visit, although most of the buildings have long gone, its a great place to walk around and read the history of the town and the gold mining days
It's a lovely old building with some historical story. It's a shame that there is not more to read about the building. There are a few signs about the place but it's all a bit lacking. Sadly, because it's an old gold town. The car park at the court house is a bit sloped and could be a bit scary for new caravan owners. We parked a bit further down on the side street and walked the town.
A great place but could do with some more info. The court house used to open Sunday but didn't know if this still happened.
Walking tracks commence from the old court house. There are several historical markers to explain the history of the town
Steiglitz area is really a hidden gem, a great place to take your kids and teach them about the past. Think of it like a much smaller version of sovereign hill without the huge price tags and massive tourists! You can walk up the hill and look and read about the different buildings still standing today from the mining times.
This historical site is worth a visit even if it's off the tracks a little. A part of our gold rush heritage. It's part of the old town and there are signs with the history around the area. Not much in the way of modern facilities so bring your picnic along.
Went on Australia day for some history. The guy on duty was genuinely pleased to see us. He told us enough without lecturing and allowed the kids to touch and interact with exhibits. We then followed the map around to the various sites marked, job done.
We went there looking for a ghost town experience, but the actual town was quite underwhelming. We didn’t go down to the mines or finish the deadman’s loop but went to the church and courthouse. We went on Christmas Day so it wasn’t open, but we were rewarded with a scenic drive from Melbourne and classic Australian landscapes. Definitely worth the drive.
A centre piece in the middle of this historic township. Parking here is useful for doing the history walk around town.
It was nice to walked around the old township. I even got some great shots of some bugs & wildflowers too.
Sad how so much has disappeared. The main St and those around were full of buildings. Ground is full of old gold rush era pieces of pottery and glass bottles. Public toilets are behind the old church.
Nice place, with car park to start any of the various walks in the area (toilets are a short walk over the road at the church).
Hey! We did the Deadmans loop walk this morning and it was great. Really appreciated the trail markers and the effort that must go into keeping the track clear. Thanks. Time estimate at the shelter at the start was spot on. Found it by accident, but will definitely be back.
