We gave this place a shot twice. The food was good but to be honest both times the service wasn't the most welcoming. The first day it was super busy so we gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back. Same experience. We were looking for a new local cafe to frequent but we might give this one a miss.

Possibly the best coffee in melbourne, equally as amazing staff! Open early, perfect for fellow tradies looking for a good morning coffee. (Highly recommend the cinnamon scroll)

Recently visited St Derby for the first time, for a late breakfast, & was impressed.
My burger was a generous size, the beef was extremely lean, and full of amazing flavours. Not greasy at all. Just how you want a burger to be.
My shake was icy, and had a rich chocolate taste.
Service was spot on, orders were taken & meals delivered promptly, with a friendly smile.
Appealing ambience, with a generous seating area outside.
I'll definitely be back to sample more of the menu.

First timers here at St. Derby and after the stressful morning we had and with an empty stomach, we came across this corner cafe and decided to pop in. I can't commend the staff enough! The food, fresh juice, amazing coffee and the positive ambience was memorable. Thankyou so much.

Long wait time is expected (at this restaurant) during the weekend. I wasn't aware and had an appointment I needed to get to afterwards. Waited anxiously for an hour and by the time food had arrived I had to rush to finish my meal as I had leave. Don't recommend if you have time constraints.

Edit: added in parenthesis to expand on my original review and is not my generalised view for all restaurant operating on weekends.

In response to the owner, thanks for taking your time to reply and acknowledge my review. It is correct I didn't advise the staff of my appointment but as I mentioned, I wasn't aware of how long the wait would be. I think its reasonable for the customer to check how far away their food would be after experiencing a lengthy wait. By the same token, I wasn't expecting to be prioritised over other diners just because I had an appointment as I was aware there were other tables that had ordered before me that hadn't received their food either. If it had been any longer, I would've had to regretfully cancel the order instead. Thankfully I didn't have to in the end, but I did have to rush my meal as a result of the lengthy wait times.

Perhaps the restaurant can give customers an indication of wait time when they are placing an order if a long wait time for food is expected?
If given the opportunity to come back, I will revisit my review again and amend accordingly

St Derby is a great little family run cafe embedded within the local community. Always friendly service and outstanding coffee which rivals anywhere in Melbourne and food is great. It's been a tough 2020 for small business, so to those that are leaving 1 star reviews, how bout don't. Try going back to support our local businesses.

Always a pleasure coming to this place. Great range of quality food, great coffee, the best violet smoothie and excellent service. The staff are always very welcoming.

Sometime your local cafe goes above and beyond for their customers. This is what you get at StDerby. It's the ideal cafe, wonderful welcoming staff, gourmet food and coffee that is consistently delicious & a true community participant. The type of place where you walk in and what ever you need right then and there, StDerby will deliver 10 times out of 10. They are my constant, thanks StDerby crew.

Very nice and well set-up cafe/corner store. The coffee is well made (no need for sugar) and the breakie roll on Turkish bread loaf makes an ideal start to the day. A number of sweet and savoury options all made fresh on site. A most stop over!

Great service and great value for money. $16 for the schnitzel roll and chips that tasted super fresh and was filling even for a big bloke like me. And thank you for offering your lunch menu all day! Other cafes take note.

Far from home, I popped in here before a hair appointment. The owner knew everyone's name and was friendly to young and old. All of the customers were happy and the food was delish. I had the Avo, a classic, but it went down a treat. A lovely way to start the day.

Great proportions, fresh food, good coffee, friendly staff, happened to be playing Taylor Swift when I was there today, what more could you want?

I absolutely love the food and service here. It is a nice small Cafe. I would love to see them grow and expand, to have a little more space.

The owners are lovely people. Had the blueberry ricotta pancakes and the hash breakfast. Very very yummy.

We had breakfast here this morning. My muesli was delicious- exactly as in their pictures. My husbands breakfast was also delicious. The coffee was good. The place is spotless and the prices are very reasonable. The owner was friendly and eager to please.
