Spicy King Restaurant reviews
21 I ate here a bunch while I was working on a production in Sunshine and even as a Southeast Asian I was utterly defeated by the spice level. At least I entertained my friends with my coughing and sniffling and the tears streaming down my red face.
The flavours are incredible though (especially for how affordable it is) and absolutely worth it if you are strong enough of spirit to handle the explosive seasoning. But even if you aren't, their fried rice (which isn't spicy) is delicious too!
Highly recommend. We came with our 3 kids and we had great lunch today. Food are very yummy. We will come back soon…
Love the authentic SrLankan Jaffna Tamil curries. They have a great varieties of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes.
They serve a variety of Sri Lanka food here. They serve generous portions of food and curry sauce on your rice set. However, I think it was a bit too spicy but the food taste good full of herbs and spices. I like how they prepared the vada.
Minimum spend of $20 for Eftpos.
Too much spicy food: - (
Edit: That's so rude response from you. But anyways. Good luck with your spicy food.
Another edit: Giving a feedback that food is too much spicy not at all rude mate. Grow up.
Amazing food that touched our souls… Big shout out to the chefs for the delicious food and for maintaining the authenticity.
You have really served justice to the name of the restaurant. Service was good too from the young boys. We’ll definitely be back with friends and family next time.
Just a suggestion, if you could play some nice Sri lankan Music then it would be great while we enjoy eating the delicious Sri lankan cuisine.
Edit 2022: I just wanted to update my review. I've been eating here frequently for the last 1 year. I would atleast visit this place 5 times a month. I have to say, this is one of the finest Ceylonese restaurant in the West. The hospitality is great. It got better over the years. The food is great and the taste is consistent. The suprising few sweets that appear once in a while are a sure treat. Moreover it is great value for money. Ill be moving out of the area, so ill miss the great food here. Nevertheless i wanted to appreciate how good their food is. I wish they continue to serve the community as they do now. Thankyou for your wonderful food. வாழ்த்துகள். In my last year's review i said that i hope they remain consistent. Now that an year has gone by, i can confidently say that they are not just consistent but also got better. Thanks.
Review from 2021: A decent Ceylonese restaurant. Their Parottas are good and their combo deal is a good value for money. I once tried their puttu as well and it is also good. Overall a very satisfactory service. The combo deal comes to around $10 or something and it normally fills you up. I hope they remain consistent.
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Sunshine. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in our mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had while in Sunshine. Highly recommend!
Big fan of their curries. 4 vege curries for $8.50. Lampraise was decent and available on Fridays and Saturdays. Food can sometimes be lukewarm so I just ask for it to be microwaved a bit sometimes.
*We bought veg & chicken Rotties but the in side of the Rotties were not cooked well.looked raw flour.
(if you need I can upload photos of it)
*The price is high compare to other Srilankan restaurants.
* We asked take away Biriyani but they packed vegetable rice with meat
Cheap, Spicy, large portion and Tasty
Tagging pics, should speak for themselves. Kothu Roti Chicken is good.
Chef/Owner is very generous to help pick the menu. Also helped with some sauces to finish everything. Next to sunshine train station with ample car park space too. Recommended!
Excellent flavours, friendly and helpful service. I am not sure what the negative reviews here have been about as my experiences have only been positive. It is not a restaurant which you visit for ambience but one which you visit for the food - which has been superb every time I have visited.
I ordered 4 vadai and some roti and hoppers. They charged me more than what they should’ve. I paid by card. But I didn’t pay attention to how much was the calculation was as I was in a hurry but I realised they charged me more while I was driving away and this is not the first time
They have cold food and keep the Bain Marie off all the time. Food is probably left out all day. And they don’t follow any Covid safety rules.
Food didn't taste good. Tastes more like Indian. Compared to other Sri Lankan restaurants this is really low quality.
While my missus was at the nearby fabric store I thought I'd take the opportunity to indulge in some authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. The Spicy King menu is extensive and the prices reasonable. The weather on the day I visited was quite cold and I noted that the bain-maries either weren't switched on or were broken as there was no lighting or water vapour evident. The glass of the bain-maries was also cool to touch. Against my better judgement I decided to take a risk and try some food. As expected it was served at room temperature but nonetheless delicious. Fortunately my dubious decision to partake didn't result in food poisoning. I note there is a previous review indicating that the food was cold, and if you look closely at the posted photos of the food in the bain-maries you don't see any lighting or steaming present that indicates they're switched off. Perhaps the proprietors erroneously think they're saving money either on repairs or electricity by not having the bain-maries keeping the prepared food above 60°C. Surely it's cheaper than a facing a lawsuit or being shut down for breaching food safety regulations. It's a pity. The food tasted so good that I'd gladly be a regular customer but only if I felt confident that it's safe. I'll provide an update of this review next time I visit and hopefully give them 5 stars!
We have ordered food for two and they only delivered 1 item.we have contacted menulog support and they said they can not do anything because the driver already delivered the food. I have spent an hour to resolve the issue and at the end they have agreed to refund 1 missing item worth of money.this is the 3rd time this happen with menulog.not going to use spicy king and menulog again.
Hands down the best authentic srilanka food in the west
I have tried all the other Srilankan restaurants around the west and nun of them come close to Spicy King
The food is mouth watering and the prices are very reasonable there is a lot of variation in food and there is something different to try every day
Spicy King is a family owned business and thay take customer services very seriously
I would like to thank Chandrahasan and dilani for their outstanding customer service and hospitality the food was delicious will definitely be back soon for more
Amazing rice & curry! It was such a fulfilling meal and it was just like homemade food. The lamb roll was super nice too
Love their sri Lankan style ginger milk tea. Both Customer Service & food are good. Buffet is available.
