Southern Cross Lane reviews
9Great little spot in the city to go have lunch with a wide variety of choice, especially love the Asian Noodle place and the Mexican place as well.
Southern Cross Lane is a lovely part of Melbourne on the site of the former Southern Cross Hotel whose claim to fame is that the Beatles stayed there during their tour of Australia in 1964.
That was nearly 60 years ago and the site has been upgraded and improved to the point you wouldn't recognise it.
There are highrise towers all around but sheltered under a clear covered section is a lane of eateries and a few stores that is well loved by people throughout the year.
Whether it's summer salads or winter soups, coffee on the go, or a smashed avocado breakfast, Southern Cross Lane is well worth a visit. I'm fortunate, that it's not far from my base, and think I've pretty much tried every eatery here now.
You'll also find this place central to many of Melbourne tourist highlights including Chinatown, Princess Theatre and the many gardens around Melbourne.
Notes: Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly. Tram stop right out the front. Close to Australia Post office.
Beautiful place to eat and flight centre gives you a chance to see where you can go on holidays
Good variety of food options in one place. Eat here rather than crossing the road for cheaper food options that are lower quality food standard.
My new bank, Bank Australia, has a branch here. However, it is also a great place to get a decent coffee and / or lunch, with lots of different varieties to cater for just about any taste, if you are at or near the top end of Bourke Street
I already had high expectations from reviews for this place. The ambiance is very nice and seems new. The shops and eatery joints are friendly and we felt welcoming.
A good choice of decent feeds. Some good, others are a bit hit and miss. A good place if you need some inspiration. Most places are part of a chain.
Good for the post office though!
I recommend this place to everyone going into the city during office hours only. There are a number of cafes a d eating places and a very modern post office. The good thing about this place is that, rain or shine, you will not get wet outside! The lane is covered by a magnificent high glass roof!
