Somerton Kebab and Café reviews
53 Be careful ordering from this store. CRAZY prices and even CRAZIER surcharges for AVERAGE food. This was my experience:
I was first told the order would come to $191. When I arrived, they went to charge me $199 and when I asked why there was a difference it was only THEN that they told me they forgot to charge for cheese. Fair enough, these things happen, not a big deal.
I made payment and upon driving away noticed that they had bumped the price to $201.99 due to a $2.99 surcharge. On a $199 order they charged me a surcharge. It gets better.
They had also specifically marked the Turkish pizzas as $19 + Takeaway.
I called them and asked about the surcharge and they could not provide an answer. I asked them why the Turkish pizzas had been marked as $19 + Takeaway - still no answer.
I heard in the background one of the workers ask another worker: "How many extra charges did you put? " - however the final answer that I received was: "Ask my boss".
Here comes the kicker.
They charge $17 for a SMALL hsp. (Really small portion size, it comes in a slightly smaller fish n' chip shop foam burger container).
$19 for 6 pieces (not slices) of Turkish pizza (Takeaway price apparently, according to the receipt).
AND
The kebabs were not even hot, they were room temperature.
The only good things were the pizzas - and they were not worth $19.
As the beginning of this review suggests, be careful of ordering from this place. They seem to take advantage of large orders and the only thing they pile on is "extra charges".
Mixed grill was fantastic.all the various meats were tender and cooked to perfection. Our only complaint is that their lahmacun was thick.this is a big no no!
I do not advise you to go, the service is fast, but the staff is nervous all the time, I ordered Hsbc lamb, the meat was very cold, I asked to replace it, but they added hot meat over the cold, and the prices are more expensive than similar restaurants.
The HSP's here are great, but the price could be a bit more appealing for repeat buyers or students.
This place had fast service and the staff is extremely nice to their customers. This place is an excellent representation of Turkish food and their food tastes good. I can definitely tell that they take their time with cooking their food and making sure their customers are satisfied.
They do best Margamic soup in Melbourne
If they open 6 am I gona eat every morning there
The women working here are absolutely exceptional. Their customer service skills are amazing and made me feel so welcome. Food is delicious and will definitely be my go-to kebab spot from now on.
Not worth it to spend your money, expensive, $10 for large chips but it’s like medium, got one coffee with full of dust on the lid I return for them and get new lid, once and never again, not tasty at all you feel you are eating 3 separate taste.trust me people expensive and not tasty.
Went with a group of friends for iftar, staff were friendly and fast, food was on time, hot and fresh. Enjoyed everything I’ll definitely be back.
I been this restaurant 6 month now and our team ordered take away many times. Today I ordered 13 kebabs but they trained young staff to make kebabs. I asked to make the food a little faster because I already waited over 25 minutes. But owner said "If you want more faster, go to the Hungry Jack's"
I was big surprised his attitude and he continued train young staff to make kebabs another 15 minutes to complete my order. And they served other three customers before finishing my order. So I was very disappointed and want to share my experience. Of course me and my team will never go again.
I ordered the mixed grill and a couple of sides, 70$ later i had to go out to get food again because of how small the portions were.
Quality and quantity for money is terrible, never returning.
Beautiful the best lentil soup you’ll ever have, I ordered crunchie bread fantastic & great kebabs. Lovely staff &
Very clean shop Big John.
It is a place with Turkish cuisine dishes, the food is delicious, the staff is friendly, it is a clean restaurant.
Soups are good however the sarma/doma (vine leaves) are obviously from a can as I've bought canned dolma before for 3 dollars a can. And they sell 1 canned dolma for $3 and it's the size of my thumb. 1 piece of dolma for $3 should be fresh and home made.
My son karlos works here and tells me how friendly all the workers are, zahida abla nada abla kadir abi and his same age friend mohammad are the ones i can name at the top of my head, i was also told his 2 bosses yilmaz abi and Ibrahim abi are very amazing people and will do anything needed to make the workers and custumers have a smile on their faces at all times, oh and one last thing my son bought our family food from there as we were hungry and my wife was too unwell to make food and from what i ate this food was nothing short of incredible. Recommend
It's a great place for ppl who like kebabs with Turkish bread. I absolutely recommend mix meal/platter!
Last time I ordered from here I got a kids meal. When I went to pick up and pay the guy said "brother do you want some bread", I said OK sure. Then he picked up a plastic bag that was already tied up with some bread in it from behind him, and he charged me extra (I think it was $5 but can't remember exactly, it was a while ago). The bread was old and cold and I thought he was just giving it to me because it looked like they were going to throw it out anyway. Greedy people
Used to be my favourite. Today I ordered a mix kebab and there was barely any meat in it. The taste of bread was over powering and some bite had no meat. Asked for extra chilli flakes and there was no chilli flakes in it at all. And for some reason they didn't toast it so the bread was soft and cold and ruined the entire taste. Dont think I'll go back there anymore.
Usually at the end you scoop up some meat from the bottom that fell out. This time the bottom was empty just bread and same as the top
Best paca corbasi I tasted in my life, my go to place was roxy kebab but that changed instantly after tasting the soup here 10/10 wow
Not very nice people working here, they don’t want you to take a table because they don’t like the way you look. They say no dining in but people sitting at the table, bit shocked when releasing I understand the language I won’t be back here again. And defiantly will tell others I know.
