Small Batch - Roastery & Cellar Door reviews
50The pastry and flat white are so delicious! The bread with raisins was not good. I want to go again next time and try other breads! And it made me feel good to be greeted with a bright smile.thank you
Nice place. But a little bit confusing if you want to dine in as there's only chairs. But overall it's recommended!
My favourite and go-to coffee place. I really enjoy their coffee and always have their coffee beans at home. Their pastries are also a must! Especially the pain au choc.
Manipulate customers by letting them wait outside for more than a hour when you know perfectly well that 90% of them will not be served with the food. No respect to those who spend their morning time in here. A tiramisu croissant does not worth the wait.
I’m very much impressed by the citrus danishes and tiramisus. Well done!
But one of their staff members who made order for me was really rude and impatience. He kept pushing me to order quickly and served me in a really bad manner which was really unprofessional. We respect the policy but we’ve waited outside for more than 30 minutes in that coldness, we deserved to be treated at least patiently.
Yummy chocolate croissant. The pastry has so many layers! It is slightly more salty and a bit more flakey compared to other bakers.
Bought the rye cookies, bacon pastry, and croissant this morning. It was so good that I ate them all before remembering to take a picture. Great balance in favour and so flaky that I will definitely go back for more.
Looks like tiramisu croissants is only eatable things they can make, extremely small amounts supply only for first week every month. Queue for an hour get nothing your like, Have try others, really average everything else. Arrogant service attitude. Damn marketing strategy!!!Definitely waste your time.
The best place for morning glory to have yummy pastry and good coffee. Highly recommended and make sure go there early so u won’t miss all the good choices
Excellent coffee (they had oatly too!), unique and delicious pastries, and super friendly service
Exceedingly excellent on every front. Consistently good coffee after MANY visits. And an ever changing variety of scrumptious pastries that always hits the spot. Service is always smiley and they learnt my name - I should probably return the favour at some point. Oh, and a fridge full of rather marvellous morsels.
️I tend to go for savoury pastries more than sweet, Small Batch is possibly the best pastry place (coffee too!) in Melb imo, and my go to for classic flavours with their own spin on it.
My favourite this time was the mortadella & creamy stracciatella (croissant + stretched curd cheese = ultimate combo). Make sure to get in early – you'll never find a good croissant in the afternoon.
? ,? ($8.5) - sweet & tangy pickled friggitello peppers
? ? ? ($8) • house made sauerkraut and Pyengana cheddar enveloped with caramelised cipollini onions & mustard
? &? ? ($7) • the house-fermented chilli was not strong, more of a plain cheesy twist with the raclette and gruyere
️? ($8) • delicious! House made savoiardi biscuit drenched in Ethiopoan single origin espresso & rich zabaglione topped with shavings of Small Batch choc cacao nibs
? ? ? ? ($6.5) • aromatic wattleseed folded throughout the crisp croissant with two decadent Small Batch roasted single origin chocolate batons.
Really good coffee, delicious pastries and nice spot in the lane way to relax and people watch. Not enough seating available for the amount of people here. Would highly recommend
Great quality coffee + delicious pastries that just hit the spot! Great chill vibes but be prepared to queue up
highly recommend the sourdough choc chip cookie - gooey in all the right places
One of the best coffee in Melbourne and amazing pastries (go early coz they sellout very fast). It’s a roastery and warehouse cafe and you’d be sitting in an alley. Very immaculate and quintessential Melbourne vibes? They are SUPER busy so don’t expect any hospitality but everything else is top notch.
Tucked away in a North Melbourne laneway you’ll find Melbourne’s original specialty coffee roasters, wholesalers and take-away patisserie, Small Batch Roasting Co. They also sell sandwiches, beer, wine and various pantry goods – most of which are house-made. Andrew Kelly, the original man behind Auction Rooms Cafe focuses on ethical and sustainable practices in all aspects of his business, including how the coffee beans are sourced. I’m not a coffee drinker so I came for their incredible pastries, making them my favourite pastries in Melbourne.
Let me cut to the chase – these pastries were perfect. The flaky layers were delicate but buttery, the flavours were present but not too over-bearing, the sweet options were not too sweet but enough to satisfy your sugar cravings. The Tiramisu gets a special mention because I didn’t think I could love my favourite dessert more than I already do, and I’m proven otherwise. Incredible!
Everything evidently looked and tasted fresh, there was a fresh crispness to everything – no stale pastries found here. Quality is up there and you absolutely get what you pay for.
There’s nothing on their (current) menu that looks nor sounds disappointing. If my experience is anything to go by, you could blindly choose a pastry and it wouldn’t disappoint. They’ve definitely placed themselves as my favourite pastries in Melbourne, the variety and quality is like no other. This may have been my first visit but it definitely won’t be my last!
Fantastic coffee! I enjoyed the croissant too. I ate some of the croissant already before taking the photo.
I can say this cafe has the best pastries in Melb, i loved their coffee as well but i had better in other cafe. I loved their mango danish and blood orange pastry, taste refreshing, not too sweet and come in a perfect size to enjoy with coffee in the morning.
Crunch pastry, especially the green sweet was so nice! Juicy and sweet enough not too much. And the coffee was good tempurature.
Tucked away in a nice alleyway but not many options to sit down to hang around. The limited seating there is, is not functional.
Staff were very friendly and up for a chat, helpful, accommodating.
Coffee went down extremely well, remarked on it from the first sip.
I'll be back for the pastries.
