Sleepy's Cafe and Wine Bar reviews
16I had a lovely lunch here today. Yummy food, great wine recommendation, lovely smiley people working there & very well priced - I’ll be back!
Stopped in to this great little relaxed-vibe local for a sneaky little breakfast and got spoilt by super-friendly service, perfect coffee and what-a-discovery.the best.kimchi cheese toastie. Also available is delicious pastries, a meegoring toastie should you need to carbo-load, and a great-looking congee for the gluten-free
An incongruous combination of characteristics makes Sleepys, honestly, one of the most exciting places in Melbourne.
Steve is doing something which the whole "hospitality" industry now only pays lip service to. That is, it pushes boundaries and fuses coffee, wine (don't even mention the mezcal) and Chinese influenced street food into an exploration of potential that existed.and then died in Melbourne two decades ago.
If that doesn't excite you.drop in pre-lunch for a coffee and a glass of campari. Nicholson Street the way it was meant to be.
Melbourne hospo is dead! Long live Sleepy Steve!
As an Aussie Shanghainese person I love the whole menu here, but the cookies are unassumingly magnificent. Look at it.
Forever it seems, I am railing about over large portion sizes, poor quality and price of food - all in the negative. Today, delightfully was the exception. As we pulled up to an innocuous shopping strip on a busy road in drizzly rain, we walked past Sleepy's only stalled by a group of people gathered at a door front on the pavement. This was the place. A friendly greeting had us perched at the back bar overlooking the prep station, friendliness continued in banter with the kitchen staff before we moved onto a table and booth. We ordered congee, mushroom base with spicy mince and tea eggs. I'd never had congee before but had expectations of the flavours as they were familiar ingredients. It arrived in a shallow soup bowl. Spoon as utensil. DELICIOUS. Umami fully present. This was comfort food at its best, flavourful. Easy down. Portion size perfect. I needed no more, no less. This simple meal of humble origins and ingredients belted flavour and satiated hunger. It was simply great. And price - easy on the wallet. Would I go again? You bet - if only it was not 740kms from home!

I have eaten lots of congee in my life and the congee served here was definietly up there
Their prices were so affordable which is refreshing and
Customer service was amazing! So so friendly!
Will be back for sure!
Very affordable and bloody delicious- go for the congee filling and yummo! Staff are funny lads too
Best coffee in the area. And by far the best service. Excellent wine options and food pop ups in the evening, too.
Probably my second favourite venue in Melbourne. The staff are always warm and welcoming, the wine selection is elite, their pop up’s keep the food menu different and interesting in the evenings.
Pro tip: Some of the best espresso and the best cookies in Melbourne.
Simple menu but oh so delicious. Fantastic coffee and uses a different blend for espressos which is a sign the place knows it coffee. Dog friendly. Really lovely staff.
Lovely spot on Nicholson st, great staff, fantastic coffee and brilliant food and wine selection. Well worth a visit and the only place to get coffee in Carlton North
Came on a Wednesday night for the ‘test kitchen’. Absolutely incredible food! Super fresh, tasty in season produce is used. We sampled everything on the menu, and also ordered the pork. Every meal was faultless. The service is also top notch. The chefs or waiters/waitresses briefly explain each dish as they bring it out. I went back tonight with my partner, once again delicious and great service. Highly recommend! I’ll definitely be back next year to visit
Wonderful! Friendly service, great coffee and morning bun was delicious. Good vibes and value for money.
My partner and I went here for an impromptu date night and it was such a lovely experience. Brooke was so lovely and helped us pick out wines (amazing recommendations) and Steve was really sweet and gave us the story behind a few of the dishes he’d made us. All in all, a lovely night and now our go to date night spot.
Such a wide range of frozen coffee just waiting for your next pour over! Loads of choice offered to me and I ended up buying a bag of Bredda Indonesian varietal that they just charged me the price of the bag and made the pour over free of charge! As always, enjoyed by me with a side of oat milk! The mi goreng toastie sounds rad and can be made vegan along with some of their other drinks! Great alcohol selection too including the famous Mr Black! Would love for them to stock the vegan coconut liqueur that far exceeds Malibu but is similar, called Aihiki. Sheridan, one of the staff members was so friendly and made me feel so at ease! Great find! Also great merch that says something about being late! Cafe Recommended to me by a staff member at Ona coffee
