Salvos Stores Carrum Downs reviews
25 This store has really friendly staff. I enjoy shopping their and catching up with the gossip.
Prices can be a little expensive but overall a really nice store with lots of nice smelly candles and perfumes (all brand new) also a range of everyday good like crackers lollies and sormyimes even cheap toilet paper.
Feels like they're less interested in helping poor people, than making money these days, and the guy working there was a bit rude too honestly (he seemed offended I started loading his donation bin with non-clothes stuff, despite signs everything saying they were accepted).
They'll only accept certain items (that they can sell), and don't accept items which poor people may need, but they can give them for free (like Vacuum cleaner, kitchenware and such). And only some clothes probably. Today, they only apparently take clothes. Would it be too much work to give away stuff like unwanted pots and pans to people who have lost everything?
Donate clothes to MSFIN (around the corner instead), as it goes directly to poor people, or recycling.
Donate everything else to savers (who accept a lot more items), or throw it onto facebook marketplace for free (someone will take it). You could also try Vinnies who are also less effort too.
Salvos is too much effort to deal with
If you're buying stuff, there's no convincing reason to go here instead of Savers. If you're poor trying to get cheap clothes, again Savers. The guy accepting donations at Savers too was also much nicer
I understand these are volunteers, but it feels like they're more underpaid labor tbh.
Some good stock but most things overpriced. Staff generally friendly except for one lady who was quite unreasonable and very rude to my daughter and I.
I've only called in to this Salvos a few times.
Puts me off.
As with many MANY other Salvos stores
I actually feel like I'm a Very EXPENSIVE Boutique
They are way OVER PRICED
G R E E D is all they know
For items they got for F R E E
They are definitely running a Business
It's NOT about Helping people out any more.
Absolute insane prices at what is supposed to be a charity. Second hand IKEA furniture sold for $100 more than what it costs new. If you need any evidence that the Salvos is a rought, look now further than the in store prices.
Friendly staff and a nice little Op shop, but the music is far too loud! It almost feels like a party inside. In my view, simple adjustment to radio sound would attract more customers.
The staff are bullies and are actually family unfriendly we will not return. This site does not represent Christian values at all.
The most overpriced 'op shop' that I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot.
$10 for clapped out men's Kmart and Target tees (which brand new in store were around $5) and $20 for forgettable Gazman chinos and button-up shirts. Not sure when such local mall brands became designer or quality clothing.
Avoid and visit Vinnies and independent stores instead.
New policy apparently where they won’t sell items because the sticker is missing. Despite other items wanting to be bought all have stickers. Absolute joke. It supposed to be a charity support place yet they’re happy to miss out on donations.
To sum up this store.there's clothing from Kmart being sold at a higher price than what Kmart sold it brand new.
Very small clothing collection which seems hand picked but all of it is so surprisingly expensive for its used condition.
It's always good to support charitable organizations but a bit hard when alot of the items are overpriced and charge boutique prices, when maybe at times you just want to shop at bargain prices otherwise you might as well purchase brandnew. They definitely know the value of antique furniture and basically charge at that rate
On the expensive side some things you can get cheaper new elsewhere, but all thrift shops are getting this way not just here
Fabulous little op shop. This is the one attached to the church, not the big one across the road. I just love this store. Their prices are old school and they always have something I want. It's only small but they have a great variety. There's always a 50c or $1 rack out the front. They also regularly have a "take it for free" table.
The volunteers are always friendly and helpful. I think that there is a little cafe there too.
Give it a go I'm sure you will be glad you did.
Just picked up 8 clothing items for $72. All good brands, nice fabrics and great condition. Saved about $400+ as most things I buy from regular shops r about $60-80 per piece. Also got 4 books for $16 instead of the usual $24-30 I used to pay at the book exchange. Theyre happy to help you look for things or out the back if things havent been unpcked yet. Really suprised actually at the amount of stuff and really reasonably priced. They gave me a rewards card as well. Very happy new customer who will be coming every Saturday from now.
Lots of things but prices expensive compared to any other salvos store. Books that are $3 or $4 in other salvos are &
$8 in this one. Cds and DVDs seem to be the same each time. Things I've left for donations never seen them end up in the store or on salvos ebay.
Worst "op shop" I've been too! Way to expensive for 2nd hand belongings you can buy brand new items for the same price maybe even cheaper & such rude custormer service I've ever had from anywhere
Bizzare op shop / boutique. They had a policy of hoarding all their good non fiction books and then offering them for sale at half price for a few days whilst maintaining a collection of garbage on their shelves which never seemed to change.
Can be very hit and miss with pricing of items, specifically mens shoes. Overall, has some good bargains and very diverse with what can be found.
Prices are rediculous and who ever prices has no idea
Pair of ski boots there for $40 they have a tag saying they are $520 brand new.
Well first of all they are not brand new and they are $125 brand new
So I bought a bag of cars from Salvos Carrum Downs (Matchbox type cars), and I really only bought it for one particular car. When I got home I noticed there was a hole in the bag and the car that I really wanted had fallen out. I rang them and described the car and asked if they saw it on the ground if they could keep it for me as I was on my way back to look for it. After 20 minutes of looking around I found it and went to the counter to tell them and the lady (who originally sold it to me) said how does she know that’s the one I lost? I said why would I lie but I’ll pay for it again if I have too. She said 75c. I know it’s trivial but I was really annoyed. I would like to say I’m never going back but I would be lying lol.
