Royal Oak Hotel reviews
12Had a small family wake there recently, food was good, service was good and didn't cost the earth.
Tonight we travelled to Kilmore to celebrate my friend's 50th birthday. We were having a lovely time dancing and lauging at Macs hotel.
When she told.me I had to run from Macs closing at 11 to be in the Royal Oak which advertised open till 1 I thought it was a joke.but half the party were 2 minutes late! A woman stood guarding the door and was absolutely disgracefully rude.
So we had no choice but to go home and my friend's birthday was ruined. She called me later in tears because one of the 15 year old bar staff had deemed her too intoxicated to buy a drink! She'd only had 2 drinks before hand! A single mother, workaholic, wildlife carer, who does so much for kilmore community and rarely has the opportunity to go out, was shattered to be so disrspected and condemned.
Then she was belittled being forced to say she was argumenrtutative when she had not even been the one asking for a drink to begin with.
This bar is a joke. Run by a control freak narcissist with no regard for any one.
I am grateful to be back in Melbourne where we have a choice and not have to deal with someone controlling our social lives.
I really hope Kilmore residents are given an alternative option soon. It embarrassing that their social lives are overseen by this absolute circus.
I've been here for dinner with friends a couple of times now, and while the dining area looks a bit tired, all the food is very tasty and comes in nice big serves. The service has also been fantastic every time and I'm sure we'll continue to come back.
I was disgusted to see that there was no facilities for disabled people, not even a ramp to get in the doors. There were steps everywhere even in the toilets. There was not even a grab rail anywhere. It is 2023 for god sake and they are still trapped in 1950. I will never return and your council will be held accountable as well for letting you get away with it for so long. It is a direct violation of Australian Human Rights, Look it up for yourself.
We had a Monday evening solid counter meal with a few drinks. Very friendly service and timely service! Enjoyed the visit
Amazing
The specials we ordered were cooked to perfection
Service.excellent
Deceptive on the outside
Relaxing and clean on the inside
Will definitely be back
Firstly I looked at the place on line and when arriving the bistro looked completely different. The appearance has nothing going for it. Secondly if you order anything with garlic there is no garlic so take your own. Fish was excellent. Scotch steak medium rare dry as the Simpson desert and I did question it as it was pricey and they insisted it was medium rare. Squid you can cook better out of the packet. Garlic prawns no garlic. Chicken Parma just acceptable. Chocolate mess and ice cream not desirable. But try it yourself and let me know what you think.
Unhospitable
Out for a ladies night in the small town of kilmore. We only catch up once a year.
The night only started at 8 and ended at 11 when the bar advertised open till 1 refused entry to anyone arriving after 11. Only 10 people in the place, 5 mature women requesting entry. Incredibly rude.
Very disappointed.
Won't bother again. Our weekend will be moved elsewhere starting with planned lunch tomorrow.
Fantastic food at the Royal Oak Hotel! The new menu is amazing and the prices quite reasonable. The new chef is amazing! Looking forward to my next visit!
Not even sure what it was. Couldn't get through the front door had to go around the back. Place is old and sad looking. Food was ok.
Good old fashion country pub feels like your back in the 90's. Beer is cold, food is good nice place to kick back on a rainy day.
Absolutely best Chinese food in Kilmore and huge dining area. I was not expecting much from a pub but we couldn't stop eating the Mongolian beef, very, very surprised! Service was very friendly also, which can be lacking in country towns. Have been a local for decades and can highly recommend!
