Royal Mail Hotel, Sebastopol

Went there after a few years. The ambience and food has improved a lot. Staff is super friendly, and the food was delicious.

This pub has new owners apparently. They need to find a chef who can cook fish. At $34 you expect to enjoy the food, not so. 3 of us had the grilled snapper with mango salsa & roasted chat potatoes. The fish was so over cooked the edges were crisp! The salsa didn't help as it was just chopped tomato, red onion and a smidgen of mango, NOT a salsa. As far as the roasted chats, they were waved in front of the oven, no evidence of 'roasting' at all. All 3 meals were the same. On mentioning the over cooked fish when paying the bill I was told that happens at times as fish is uneven. Not returning any time soon

This pub never disappoints, my missus and I call in occasionally for a meal and a few quiet bevies and we're yet to have abad experience

My wife had the salmon with was no good don't think it was fresh my wife was sick all night not good will not be back

Thank you Kristen for accommodating us even though you were short staffed. Your hospitality and service was outstanding. Kitchen was understaffed in which we had no qualms about. We were told on the wait and were happy to wait after reading all their reviews! So glad we did. To the Kitchen, you did an amazing job. Food was tasty, hot and appealing. We ordered the rib eye and the lamb cutlets. Service staff, friendly, wonderful and smiley. Ambience was just perfect. From the external building to the inside decor.the fireplace.just perfect, warm and inviting. Will definitely be back.

Fantastic beer, fantastic food. Friendly and approachable and highly hospitable staff. Try the Chicken Caesar salad and you will Love it. Try the weird beer from craft brewers too, so nice, fresh, fruity, zingy beer that makes you happy!

What a magic little country pub. The food is exceptional, couldn’t fault a thing. I dine at lots of Melbourne pubs and this place puts them to shame. Quality ingredients, fresh, hot and well plated. The porterhouse and mixed entree platter were standouts. The charm, warmth and inviting hospitality makes this place such a gem. I’d make the trip back for certain! Thanks for a great night!

Never a time we haven’t had a great time and fantastic service. The meals are always superb no matter what we get. I can highly recommend RMH.

I love this pub. Not presumptuous, great staff, live music, and just a chill atmosphere. It isn't fancy but that is part of the appeal.

My cycling club went there for a Christmas in July lunch, and the pub did a great job of feeding a room full of people. The meats from the carvery were tender and tasty.

Had a great night at the pub. Heaps of variety in drinks, quick service and a great atmosphere. I hear the meals a good too.

This was a beautiful meal and a compliment to the Royal Mail Staff.
The shared entree platter was bountiful with a mixed selection of dishes, from melt in you mouth calamari, succulant beer battered prawns, divine mini spring rolls, mac cheese croquettes, moist mushroom arancini balls (best i've ever had) and a small nicely dressed salad to tie it all in. The herb encrusted kangaroo main was lightly charred and as tender as butter, melt in your mouth perfection over a lovely warmed beetroot salad and the vinagerette reduction went really well together. This is is a must try dish.
The Star Anise pork dish was the weakest of the dishes, with the crackle disappointingly, not crackly with the sauce a bit intense and overpowering through the rice, although the star anise was subtle and nicely done. Asian greens were a bit hit and miss.
All and all a great meal and we look forward to trying out some of the other dishes next time.
