Rocksteady Records reviews
38You have to go through a restaurant and up an elevator to get there, it’s not a well placed business, but it’s a well stocked and very well presented business. The owner got mad at me for putting records at the back of a stack I was about to buy so i’d remember where they were but we had a good laugh about it as I purchased them. My only recommendation is to stock more metal albums, but a solid little record store overall.
A family affair, Pat and Tess Monaghan have the best selection of new vinyl in Melbourne, with a particular focus on contemporary Australian artists, and of course, Jamaican sounds. While one might spot a Taylor Swift LP in the racks, independent labels and smaller imprints are passionately supported.
The lady serving me was super helpful in finding the vinyl i wanted to grab:) also bought individual inner and outer sleeves for super cheap.greatly recommend to anyone! The atmosphere was also really nice in there and felt comfy to look around
Wide range of records, with friendly staff eager to help and give recommendations. Always enjoy visiting here!
I came in today for the first time. It’s a little tricky to find, you need to go through this shifty little hallway and upstairs via the elevator. But once you’re in there the atmosphere is nice, and it’s really welcoming. There’s a good selection of albums and things are easy to find.
I recommend this place to anyone passing though, it may even be worth going out of your way just to come here
A pretty good selection of new vinyl and some good prices on some albums. For secondhand it's not so good but prices seemed ok on the limited selection they had.
Wide selection of different records and the atmosphere was calm, along with the staff being polite and friendly.
The best range of vinyl I’ve ever gone through. Got to’B’ in one of the sections and already had about 8 records I needed. Plus identified a couple on the wall while I lined up to pay. Dangerous but means I’ll be back every week! My focus today was new releases from local artists but they have everything!
Rocksteady Records in Melbourne CBD is a true gem for music enthusiasts! The range of hard to find and independent releases is unparalleled and the staff is just fantastic. Shoutout to Pat, whose encyclopaedic knowledge of music is truly impressive. His recommendations never disappoint and I always leave the store with new discoveries. The rest of the crew are equally friendly and provide excellent reco's. I can't recommend Rocksteady Records enough, it's a must-visit for any music lover. Five stars all around!
Rocksteady Records is my go-to record store in Melbourne. Do yourself a favour and ask Pat for a recommendation. I call it “surprise record”. I end up with an introduction to something new and unfailingly excellent every time.
Selection of records are very good and thr staff is wonderful but the prices for these records are alot compared to online at other retailers
We made the trek down from Canberra to visit this shop and had one of the best experiences in a record store ever!
The shop itself is amazing and very welcoming, with a huge variety of records to look through.
Pat helped us out and was very generous and kind, even held on to our records while we went walking through the city for the day.
New fave record store!
Went here on a whim. Has basic selection. Pricing is all over from average to expensive. Small selection.
Fairly priced vinyl and fantastic service. Didn’t have what I wanted but sent me to the places that did.
My favourite record shop in Melbourne! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, I can't tell you the number of gems I've discovered at Rocksteady just by asking for a recommendation. Great selections at good prices, all in the heart of the CBD. A must visit!
Stumbled across this hidden gem while in the city last week. I was immediately acknowledged by Pat, but was left to have a good look around before I was asked if I needed help finding anything which I appreciated. Ended up having a good chat with him and he pointed me in the right direction along with a few recommendations which I also ended up purchasing. Thanks again. I'll definitely be back. Hands down my new favourite record store!
The guy who runs this store is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Did not feel welcome, in fact, I felt judged the entire time I was in the store. He was rude to other customers in the way he spoke to them and had a serious superiority complex in the way he acted and spoke to me. Literally put the records I wanted to buy back on the shelf and went to JB, where I paid more for them but left knowing I hadn't given this guy a cent of my hard earned money. Avoid, unless you like being patronised.
One of my favourite record stores in Melbourne! It is such a welcoming space that’s always playing groovy tracks. I thoroughly enjoy my visits to explore the incredible collection as well as have a chat with Pat the owner. He is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about music. Highly recommend!
Store has a clean curation of various genres of records. Although I visited recently, I did not feel welcome by the male worker. Felt like he did not want to make conversation with me and didn’t want to be bothered at the counter. Wasn’t a welcoming experience on my end, to say the least.
Such a great record shop. Owner is a hero and is so knowledgeable. They had every artist I wanted too
