Rivergum Fish n Chips reviews
15 Service was very bad. It didn't have hospitality. When the owner wanted to take our orders, she frowned to us, that is not customer service and is very rude. We were eating food, and the owner came to take our plate. It is not respectful to collect food and plates while eating. She should tell us we are closing in 5 minutes or not to accept customers instead.
I saw the response of the owner. It WAS NOT asked by the owner if we finished food. She just approached us and collected the door of Sause, meaning she didn't have humble behaviour and wanted we go from there.
It was my first time that I saw someone started to collect the table before I finished.
If you know that we ordered dine in when you are closing in 5 min, you should not take order.
We will not go back again. We do not recommend this place to others.
Unfortunately it wasn’t great. We ordered snack pack 1 and the flakes were burned. I had a souvlaki and the bread and chicken were also burned and way to salty. I’m disappointed and we won’t go back again.
Bit upsetting to get all the way home to have your chicken snitzel burgers so burnt you can hardly take a bite!
Unfortunately it's a no from me!
This used to be a great fish and chip shop, not anymore. Firstly the lady over the phone could not understand me at all, I had to repeat my order 4 times to her, but she did not get anything right anyway.
The chips were bright yellow, the fish so over cooked, I asked for no sauce for the steamed dim sims yet they were covered in soy sauce. No lemon provided for the fish, even though my partner asked. My eight and ten year olds said that their hot dogs in batter had a very strange after taste in their mouths. All of us feeling by quite sick, but 3 hours later my mouth is still coated in the oil. Never ever again.
Can’t begin to tell you how much it upsets me to leave this review. I so want to help local businesses but they have provide good quality if they want that support.
The previous owners were wonderful and never had a problem.
Went in tonight and had to wait for the lady to stop playing on her phone to order.
I ordered, took the stuff home. My son and I started eating. Took our first bite. And straight away I noticed an overwhelming smell of ammonia in the fish. I broke off another piece and it was even stronger. I immediately took it back and told them and they just looked at me like I was the problem. They smelt it and said there’s nothing wrong with it. Well there was. The smell of ammonia was overwhelming. Only two things it could have been, old fish or bad supplier. Either way, I walked out having wasted $27. Last cent they will see from me.
I'm allergic to spices and I thought I was buying a plain burger but they have spices in the burger which made me sick. But they responded well to feedback to alert new customers that their burger patty is not exactly plain.
The only other things is I noticed they don't use gloves when serving food.not sure if that's got anything to do with food regulations but I reckon it's basic food handling hygiene
Everything was great, except for the burger, I could not eat it. It had curry like flavours in the burger which gave it a weird taste.
It was so pleasing to see the old owners in control of the fryers to help out the new owner for Good Friday 2021, very nice of them to do so, and that is the only reason why we came back there to eat and to visit them, I’m sure the old owners had a lot to do with preparations as that explains why the batter was so fresh and crispy and the food was nicely thin battered and cooked perfectly and tasted so nice, that is why rivergum fish and chips had the reputation that it had due to there hardwork and dedication and pride to deliver good quality fish and chips to there customers thumbs up to them
As for the new shifty owner who has no idea and cuts corners has big shoes to fill, tried his food once never again
Oohh god, new owners. Why? Just when you find one of the best fish and chip shops in the area they sell up and leave. Offer to good to refuse i guess. Good luck.
So happy to find a really great fish & chip shop in the area. Fish was cooked perfectly, not oily, the potato cakes were great as were the chips. Definitely be back again soon.
So disappointing.
Haven’t eaten here since new owners took over.
Ridiculously expensive
Meal was way below the standard that they have served there before, undercooked, soggy and the fish tasted unusually odd. Chips also tasted floury
Sorry, but not for me
My husband and I had the mixed souvlaki pack which came with pita, lamb, chicken, tzatziki, salad, chips and a can of drink. The pita was warm, light and fluffy, the meat was tasty and tender, salad was fresh, chips were crunchy and hot. All cooked fresh and served hot. We also had a couple of potato cakes. Home made, piping hot and with a light, crunchy batter. Added some salt and they were amazing.
Highly recommended
Had a takeaway order last night. There were three people behind the counter, they all walked out the back as I came in but to be fair I don't think they saw me. So I'm standing there, waited about a minute then an old woman walks back out and screams for someone else to serve me. No greeting, no smile, not even any acknowledgement of my existence.
I know customer service isn't what it used to be but come on. This was appalling, especially from an older person working in a customer service industry.
The food was actually ok but given there are so many other similar shops in the area, I'll be going somewhere where I can at least get a hello rather than a rude snub from the people behind the counter
I highly recommend Rivergum F&C. The new owners have really stepped up.
Unfortunately the previous owners gave it a bad name and lost many customers but I ask everyone to come in and give it another try and you will be overwhelmed in the difference in food quality, taste and great service.
Fish is always cooked to perfection.
You won’t be disappointed
Thanks for reading.
What a great place! I ordered a grilled flake and it was amazing, so soft with a crispy top layer. Also ordered a "small" chips which was what i would consider large, had heaps left over. And ordered 2 potato cakes and got 4!
Thanks guys - excellent service and tasty fresh food!
