Rivendell East Gippsland reviews
12I was blown away by this beautiful estate on the rolling hills of Tambo Upper. Our mud brick villa was beautifully styled and had everything we needed, open fire, hot tub, kitchen and a king size cloud in the master bedroom. My favourite surprises of our stay were the converted water tank master bedroom and the endless views across the manicured gardens out to the valley. Highly recommend this picturesque farm estate as a relaxing getaway.
My husband and I stayed in Bagend Cottage last weekend- WOW WOW WOW. We were blown away! It’s obvious the new owners have put an incredible amount of time, energy, and resources to making this a luxury experience in every sense of the word. The epitome of luxury; high quality linen bedding, plush cotton towels + robes, brand new kitchen with every appliance you could need, even the plates and cups looked and felt high-end. Every possible detail has been thoughtfully considered- we felt incredibly spoiled and even tried to extend our trip (unfortunately we couldn’t change our flights). The landscape right outside of your window is breathtaking and the wildlife around the property (gorgeous peacock, cute Highland cows, beautiful birds) - this property and experience is 6. There is even a cedar hot tub for you to relax in whilst you take in the surreal scenery around you. Book your getaway now bc once the secret is out on this amazing property they will likely be booked out for months. We are already planning our next weekend to return!

If you're considering staying in East Gippslnd and are looking at Rivendell Farm Estate - STAY HERE - you will not regret it. Pictures do not do the lovely Bag End cottage justice. Outside, the views, stillness and tranquility are second to none. Inside the french provincial styling is immaculate with every detail being meticulously thought of. 5
Myself & my partner read the few select reviews there are on Rivendell and booked months ago for what we expected would be a never to forget experience. Well, it certainly managed to live up to that. We decided to do a two night stay in the 'Bag End' property the weekend after Easter. Let me start with the positive aspects. The view from the property is stunning and when you drive around the different accommodation properties it certainly sets the right mood. Unfortunately thats where the magical experience ended for us.
We noticed on arrival a lot of dead & alive millipedes outside and in the property and it was clear no effort had been made for some time to dust or sweep inside. We brought this up with the young lady who was representing the property and staying next door with her family but it was somewhat brushed off as part of the Charm! On request of a few small things we needed for the property she was however really helpful and polite.
Unfortunately as evening fell we were greeted by more and more insects + a great deal more millipedes on the floor and on the walls. As much as we tried to remove/dispose of them, more came rumbling out. The final straw were the millipedes that decided make a home in and on the bed. Despite cleaning these up we were then woken up with yet a couple more that decided to greet us at 3: 30am in our bed. Moved to the Couch to attempt to get some sleep (inc our Dog who was with us), texted the young lady next door about the situation and headed back to Melbourne the following morning. Despite all of this we got no communication back and certainly no apology or suggestions of refund (which we are now pursuing).
As in one of the other more recent reviews, this property is up for Sale and given the amount they charge for the stay I'd suggest the care factor seems to be a secondary consideration now given the experience we went through.
We had an amazing stay at Rivendell Estate (Bag end cottage). The views were absolutely stunning, the accommodation cosy, clean & full of character & the hot tub “hot”. Great chance to watch the sunrise, star gaze from the hot tub & generally unwind. Josh was a great host, topped it off with fresh sourdough & cultured butter for our last morning. Absolutely recommend. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The perfect country escape. From the minute you pull up to the farmhouse you are greeted like an old friend. The grounds are magical. The accommodation brilliant (we stayed in Bag End). The food. Well. You just need to experience that to believe it. Josh's passion in the kitchen is evident on your plate. We will be going back and next time we will be bringing friends with us to share the magnificence that it Rivendell Estate.
Josh and the Rivendell hospitality is outstanding. A beautiful property. We stayed in the cottage called Bag End which includes a hot tub. We are still reminiscing over Josh’s freshly baked bread.
Amazing views, exciting food, beautiful decor and a down to earth vibe. Rivendell has it all. If you are tired of staying at the same kind of bland hotel, Rivendell is the place for you. It has so much personality and the hospitality is on point. Do you self a favor and enjoy a sunrise over the valley, or if you are not the biggest morning person, get Josh to make you one of his special gin and tonics and take in one of the beautiful sunsets instead. I would definitely recommend Rivendell.
Rivendell farm is a magical place. The food that was made by chef Josh was amazingly delightful. Every meal was home made, every beveridge was locally delivered/bought, the land/farm, everywhere you looked was just beautiful. Our cottage (bag end) had us feeling like as if we were home, as it was quite cosy, warm and had interesting decor throughout. What made our day/night was the facilities eg.hot tub being available to us at anytime. We truly had the best time and will definitely come back for more. Josh is very talented and you can really tell he enjoys what he does and has an amazing passion for farm life. Thank you for the hospitality and thank you for the doggies who kept me company whilst my partner was still fast asleep:)
I was travelling with a colleague for work in East Gippsland. This place was a little off the beaten track but, wow, was it worth it. One of the most stunning outlooks I’ve ever seen, the Tambo River valley is beautiful and so are the manicured gardens. I completely understand the name. Our rooms were tastefully decorated and the owners made us feel like family without imposing throughout our stay.
Driving from Melbourne, we arrived a bit late and Annette gave me easy directions while explaining our self check-in. We got a delightful surprise on arrival with a warm room and a delicious charcuterie board and a bottle of wine from Josh, the chef who runs a boutique catering business, La Matanza - what a treat! (see the picture)
We were warmly invited to join the family for breakfast, or have it in our room. We opted to be social and found that Josh made his own sourdough bread, butter, cured meats and whole lot of other delicious stuff. I can see foodies loving this experience.
Looked up the place further and found that this is the number 1 farm stay in Australia. Well worth it and chuffed we stayed here. Easy to recommend! Thanks Annette, Peter & Josh.
Thank you to Josh and everyone at Rivendell for putting on the most amazing birthday celebration! The stunning gardens, bar, cosy sitting areas and magical undercover area made for the perfect atmosphere and the night was made even better by the amazing food. Everyone who came had such a great time and we all loved being able to dance, laugh, catch up and explore the beautiful gardens. Rivendell would be perfect all year around for any kind of event as there are cosy undercover fire places but also open and shaded areas.
