Richmond Oysters reviews
75The food was amazing. We ordered a seafood platter which we paid for on Groupon, so it was exceptional amount of seafood for what we paid. The staff however were not great. Alot of confusion, not friendly and warm. In fact the opposite. The Manager was abrupt and rude and for this reason will not return.
Food and service is amazing and beyond my expectations. Seafood is very fresh and delicious.
It’s very rare you go to a restaurant and you’re pleased. From the service we received from Nick, to the food and the atmosphere. - we will be back for sure. Nick if you aren’t part of training staff on flawless customer service, you need to be asap!
Love, love, love this place. The food is to die for and the service is exceptional…Do yourself a favour!
Cassia was a great waitress! She made sure all our needs a were met, in general was a great experience with food, drinks and experience
Wow - fresh, varied, not ridiculously expensive, great vibe and every single thing was delicious.
Travelling from Canberra, keen for some seafood and a bit of research shows numerous recommendations for this restaurant from various sites.
About a $15 Uber ride from our hotel at the Langham at Southbank in the city, we booked lunch for two and we were looked after by Nick - disarmingly honest and very relaxed and with a great way about him.
We had a few questions and after he checked with the kitchen and gave us the go ahead, we ordered a dozen mornay Sydney oysters for entree to share ($57) and then designed our own platter.
I’m going to dub it “The Canberra Platter” and it was fantastic!
The oysters were really good, it’s becoming increasingly harder to find mornay sauce on menus, but done properly it’s a match made in heaven and these didn’t disappoint.
Our bespoke platter was a kilo of bugs, half cold and half grilled, with a variety of sauces on the side (lemon butter, tartare, and dill aioli), two crumbed prawn cutlets, two bbq’d king prawns, amazing rosemary and garlic kipfler potatoes and a rocket, pear and pine nut salad.
Can’t tell you how good it was. The bugs were a decent size and tasted like bugs, sweet and cooked so they just pulled whole from the shell.
The prawns also tasted like prawns and I preferred the bbq king prawns to the crumbed (I read a review saying they were the best crumbed prawn cutlets in Australia, but although above average, they weren’t the best in Australia - that belongs to the Hellenic Club bistro in Canberra).
To drink we had a bottle of German Hugel Riesling ($80), recommended by Nick, and a perfect pairing with seafood.
My husband also had a Furphy beer and then another one which was on tap - Stomping Ground - which he said was great.
So the Canberra platter worked out to be $152, and coupled with the oyster entree was a really good combination of food - not too many crumbed things and nothing we didn’t want to eat.
Thank you very much and can’t wait to come back - there’s so much more to try including lobster mornay (about $150 for a whole one) and crumbed fish and chips to name a few.
We generally go for lunch about 3 pm, a very quiet time on a Sunday, staff are very helpful and friendly, service is quick, and the seafood is superb, great paella, more than enough beautifully cooked fish and seafoods, the seafood platter is great, and the grilled fish cooked to perfection ….
and on a side note no extra charge on a weekend as so many restaurants are doing … see you again soon
Having had the oysters at Richmond Oysters a number of times and always finding them to be incredibly tasty and, super fresh, I thought I’d give the seafood Paella a go…. Wow! This is an amazing dish. There is a generous amount of seafood in the paella, the rice is cooked beautifully and the crust in the base crunchy and delicious.
Wonderful, fresh oysters at an excellent price. Very good choice of wine. Excellent main courses - I had mussels in white wine sauce with a side of chips, and my wife had bug tails. Very generous servings and excellent service!
We've since returned a few times and have enjoyed everything we've tried.
My daughter gave us a $100 voucher in 2022. We chose this venue to have a special treat for our birthdays and wedding anniversary. We "splashed out" and ordered the shared seafood platter with a cold, then hot selection. It was a challenge to eat it all but it was "bloody good! "
Washed down with a cocktail, pale ale and a glass of wine.
I had an unexpected hole in one at Heidelberg golf course yesterday so that added another dimension to our occasion.
The wholesale section looks amazing with the seafood on display and accompaniments.
Staff were very friendly and looked after us with good service.
May not take on the challenge of the seafood platter next time, but will be back to make another selection.
Located on Church St. We were there for a food and wine pairing event by Mollydooker. Restaurant was a little dated, but the service was excellent. Food was generous and tasty. The paella was cooked to perfection. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to others. Parking can be difficult when busy.
Amazing service for our dinner. The man who served us was amazing and accomodated our needs for my partners birthday. Food was amazing, drinks were amazing and the place was tidy and clean!
Food excellent but when 2 received their meals the other 2 waited quite a while to receive theirs. We ordered 1 desert but were charged for 2 so make sure you check the bill. Also staff were not very friendly and looked like they wanted to be anywhere except at work. The girl behind the bar was the only one who smiled and made us feel welcome. The food when it turned up excellent though.
The grazing platter was really grand. We added extra octopus, (which was nice enough), and crumbed prawns… which were FABULOUS! In fact probably the best prawns I’ve had anywhere in Melbourne. Staff were excellent, booking was easy, walk-ins are welcomed warmly and the ambience is just right, a great blend of fine and casual dining. I have no doubt they take great pride in their work at Richmond Oysters! P. S. They have a great range of fish and other seafood on hand.
Amazing food and atmosphere! The staff were all so friendly and helpful, was a great dining experience.
Exceptional seafood. Arguably the best in Melbourne in terms of quality and value for money. Always fresh and invariably Australian and New Zealand seafood
Had a last minute request for a large amount of seafood for an international performing artists rider. Kingston and the team at Richmond Oysters went above and beyond assist with getting this over the line. Kingston went out of his way to design a custom package for my event and had it ready for collection In less than 24 hours. The food was fresh and fantastic and the feedback from the artist was spectacular. Thank you Kingston & team. Will be recommending you for any further events in the future.
The best fresh seafood platter in Melbourne! Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant for all seafood lovers. Staff were lovely and friendly.
Takeaway crumbed snapper, calamari and chips.
The calamari was so chewy it seemed like it wasn’t cooked enough. Inedible.
The snapper had a fishy odour and did not taste fresh.it fell out of the crumbed casing it was in.
The chips great as always.
Very disappointed. I regularly purchase the same order and usually it’s awesome. Paying over $50 for fish n chips that made u feel sick is not going to make anyone a happy customer.
Every other occasion I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional meal.
Today they dropped the ball. I feel sick. Richmond oysters.do better.your better than this
We dined (my partner and i) with richmond oysters in December of 21, shortly after become quite Ill (food poisoning from contaminated oysters).
We've been promised reimbursements from Richmond Oyster for the sum of approximately $320.00 the approximate amount spent that night but have never recieved a refund.
I'm extremely disappointed that we weren't refunded considering that this incident made the news.
Extremely dissatisfied
