Reine & La Rue reviews
17 Went for an anniversary dinner and spent around $600 for a hit and miss meal.
We started with oysters and beef tartare which were excellent, but the scallops were a bit oily. A $54 glass of rose champagne was poured completely flat and had to be replaced- it should have been tasted prior to service if using a Coravin.
Entrees were an excellent duck pate and a forgettable tuna tartare which had zero taste or seasoning- I had to request salt. Our bottle of red was delicious.
Mains followed the theme- lovely calamari, pomme purée was quite rich, but the $150 duck was unseasoned and overcooked. We sent it back and it returned still unseasoned and a little tough, but with pomme frites and a salad as an extra.
I would have expected more for the amount paid and am unlikely to return. The space is beautiful (albeit looks like a rip-off of The Ned in London).
This place is next level! The food was incredible but we are leaving the review for the SERVICE! Special mention to Evie who looked after us… She is a Hospo Star! Knew everything about the dishes and even provided the backstory! Amazing environment! Evie you truely made it exceptional!
There is no denying that the atmosphere and venue is absolutely superb. I do have to say the service was a weird mixture of too attentive and distracted at the same time. The staff were lovely and respectful and even though everyone one else was having a birthday - tried to make me feel special even if it was a bit boring for them. As one of the first seatings of the night we felt rushed and pressured which is not how a fine dining experience is supposed to feel. Admittedly we were supposed to be there at 645 and were there more around 7. Still I don’t think it is much to ask when you are going to pay a good sum of money that you feel like you can lean into it and spend your way through the menu. Alas this did not occur and it felt very transactional and harried. In the first 5mins we were repeatedly asked for orders. We had to order entrees and mains at the same time because it would take too long if we didn’t.have you decided yet. Our sommelier who gave some really good advice on wine styles was prompted later on in the night to take our wine order by a manager? As our desserts were about to arrive and we had been sitting on the wine list for some time. So yes service weirdly distracted and too attentive. The food was.alright. As others have pointed out out the stars of the show are the desserts. The duck parfait was very very good. Everything else was just a bit boring and the fish of the day was some snapper that was dry and tasteless which is not what you expect for $80. So feeling like plebs not quite fitting in or really welcomed to hallowed halls of the old stock exchange we took our leave not quite replete.
I have heard reviews of people saying that Reine and La Rue is expensive for what it is so maybe I was psychologically prepared for my credit card to get a workout, so when the bill came, it wasn’t too bad.
For $185pp we had two cocktails (amazing cocktail I must add, Rhubarb and Elderflower), 3 starters each (2 oysters, 1x beef tartare and 1x scallops), two entrees: tuna tartare and foie grais, bread w butter, 1 mains to share (duck) and 2 desserts to share (icecream and one of the special lemon and peach tart). It was a lot of food and I simply can’t fault the quality and the flavour of the food so I felt that it’s definitely worth a try for a special night out.
The service is solid, a bit upselly but I quite like that there is one wait staff who is like the main person you talk to and she seemed to be there when we need her, but there are also “supporting people” who brings the food out, clear the plates unobtrusively that sometimes I didn’t even know they took my finished plate/ glass.
I had a really great time at Reine & La Rue!
What a true highlight to our Melbourne experience. The setting was historic, the service was first class and the food was sublime. We will book again.and again, and again!
Attended Reine & La Rue to celebrate my partner's birthday. To say our dining experience was incredible is an understatement. Not only was the food delicious, but the staff were welcoming and extremely well trained. The eye fillet was note-worthy as well as the tuna tartare. The wine list was extensive and the sommelier was particularly professional. The atmosphere was superb as anticipated. I am eager to make another booking.
Wow the architecture breathtaking, the food is like a circus in your mouth, brilliant staff, Melbourne's place to go
Wow, when you walk in, the architecture smacks you in the face. This place is amazing. The food and service matches the architecture, just fantastic. Loved it.
Breathtaking venue. Pure class. Absolutely delicious food. Impeccable service, highly attentive.
10 for ambience at atmosphere, beautiful building, one of my favourite spots in Melbourne. I had the duck neck, had no idea what to expect but it was soooooooo good. For an entree, main and cocktail each expect to spend maybe 100 per person. Definitely get the bread and cultured butter.
The service was amazing, couldn’t ask for better wait staff
10’s all round
Will be back
Brilliant dining experience. The passion and knowledge of the team was a delight to be around and the food and atmosphere was incredible. The interior is absolutely beautiful, a good choice for a special occasion.
We finally got a booking to checkout what’s all the rave about … it did not disappoint. The food was Devine, especially the pate. The drinks are on point and service was wonderful which made the dinning experience so lovely.
Amazing food, gorgeous decor, and the service was so kind and helpful! Especially Sean, he was so friendly and sweet and helpful with everything, big thank you to him for making the experience even better!
One of the best meals we've ever had. The food was absolutely incredible, staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The venue itself is beautiful as well. Celebrated a special occasion and it was well worth the money.
Food was good. Room is beautiful. Service is amateurish. No way this deserves 2 chefs hats. We had a dodgy table spot to the right of the entrance. Feels like a waiting room, watching from a far the real dining room. Wouldnt go again if we had to sit back there in economy.
We had a lovely evening here. This place is great for a special occasion. The food itself was delicious and presented really beautifully.
Really couldnt fault our night here! Its the perfect place for a special night out. Had the tuna tartare, fish of the day, roasted carrots and the hazelnut soft serve. All delicious! Friendly but professional staff, and the room was spectacular, with great acoustics.
