Rare Steakhouse Midtown

Absolutely love eating here. Can not complain about food or service. Meals are to die for and wait staff are all fantastic.

Really (really!) great food. The service was friendly and efficient. I only wish they still had their awesome garlic prawns on the menu. All in all a wonderful evening. Thanks Rare Midtown!

Absolutely loved our visit here. The food was amazing and the vibe was great. But I must say the service was some of the best I’ve ever had. Amazing staff who really took time to talk to us about the menu as well as chatting to us and making us feel super welcome. Really made our experience there. Our waiter was Jonas (hopefully remembered his named correctly, he was from Sheffield UK) and he was so incredible. Honestly the best serve I’ve ever had and he made our night at Rare, would love to be served by him at every restaurant. So attentive, happy and friendly. All in all a great night dinning here.

Food: Had the scotch fillet, which was cooked nicely medium rare. Sweet potato fries is amazing. Pork Ribs is just okay. Probably because it's grilled hence less flavorful.
Service: Great with close attention to allergies. However, my birthday request during reservation was not attended to.

Stumbled on to this place and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Wonderful steak, Exquisite wine, outstanding unobtrusive but helpful service. Just sorry I didn't have room for an affogato to finish. Thank you we will be back!

An amazing fine dining experience!

The atmosphere, food and service was absolutely outstanding! The steaks in particular were extremely tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed an array of delicious sides and starters such as the mushrooms, the beans and broccolini and the greek salad. This amazing meal was matched perfectly with a delicious and crisp Pinot noir. Overall an incredible dining and culinary experience that I highly recommend to everyone in Melbourne and visiting!

Amazing service, incredible vibes and magnificent steak! The Grilled Boerewors which I had never tried before was brilliant. Medium rare scotch fillet with the creamy garlic sauce is a must as well as the sticky date pudding for dessert. A really great experience, will definitely be heading back!

Our steaks were cooked so well. They source quality ingredients. We enjoyed our entire meal, from our oyster appetisers to our 3 sorbet desert.

Our dinner was delicious and given the quality of ingredients, it was reasonably priced too.
My Porterhouse was cooked beautifully with a nice mashed potato on the side (I asked for medium rare with black pepper sauce).
The highlight was our Greek salad. So fresh and full of flavour.
I now find a decent steak restaurant in the CBD that has allowed me to have a great meal without taking up another mortgage. We’ll be back!

Warm rustic inviting venue whilst still retaining sofistication, customer service is second to none and of course the food more so was the best I've had from a venue of this size anywhere in the area. Entres were mind-blowing and the steaks had me yearing for more and more, would highly recommend to anyone looking to one of Melbourne's most premium Steak-oriented dining experiences.

Waited 15 mins for any service. Finally got a waiter's attention to order a drink. Beer was flat & returned. Waiter spoke/understood very poor English. Meal served without cutlery. Finally got waiter's attention for cutlery. Been going to Rare for over 20 years. You've done better

There are two things I look for in a restaurant: good atmosphere and good food. This place has both. The staff are fantastic, the food is delicious, and the overall experience was amazing.

Amazing atmosphere staff were so wonderful and attentive, meals were incredible and came out pretty quickly even though they were so busy. Definitely will be back.

Equal best steak in Melbourne. Myriad cuts available cooked on the grill and basted. The cooking staff have been here for 10-25 years each and they are clearly a good team.
High ceilings and beautiful heavy timber rafters make for a historic warehouse vibe. It's a slightly upmarket joint but a relaxed and easy feel. Two levels make for a deceptively large footprint.
We had really good service from a number of staff: Tegan, Lyna and Jess were attentive and knowledgable. Their suggestions were right on!

Steak was absolutely gorgeous. Right up there with the best steaks I have had. The creme brulee was amazing as well. Staff was friendly and trying their best to ensure that we had a good time.

Such a great spot, easy to find parking and a warm welcoming ambience.
The food is great, if you order the big rib eye and you like medium rare probably go with medium as mine was a little undercooked. But really good beef here and prices are excellent.

Whoever makes the sticky dates should be given an award, they are the best we’ve had, ever, and we’ve sampled a few in our time.

Overall extremely impressed by Rare Steakhouse MidTown, will return.

FYI - 3 mains, 2 wines and dessert for two people came to $205. Actually less than what we expected. Book with confidence this place is great.

An absolute disappointment!
We WON’T be coming back.

While we were ordering, I was keen on ordering a eye fillet. On the menu, there was 3 different types - to which I asked the service staff what was the difference between the 3 types. He responded by indicating what was the cheapest / most expensive. (Obviously I can see that from just looking at the menu) He could barely give a decent response other than to say they are 3 different brands.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt and ordered the most expensive one ($70+). I ordered no sauce and “medium” doneness. Upon receiving the steak and cutting it into half, it was medium well / well done (last pic). The steak was extremely hard and chewy. I’ve eaten lean steaks too (e.g. Filet mignon) in other steakhouses and it was tender and juicy.

Moving on to my spouse’s steak, he ordered “medium” doneness and with no sauce. When the steak arrived, it was smothered in sauce. He notified the service staff and was told that it was marinade. We never eat steak with sauce. A good steak cut DOES NOT require sauce. It would be flavorful enough on its own. His steak had 3 different levels of doneness which indicated that it was cooked so unevenly. He alerted the service staff and he told us to speak to the manager before leaving. My spouse did just that and the manager said the service staff should have done a “steak check” upon serving the steak to us. Basically, the manager and the service staff didn’t want to take ownership and just wanted to push the blame to each other.

Won’t be back here… there are MUCH BETTER steakhouses in the vicinity.

Some other points to note:
1) the restaurant puts a hold on your credit card to make a reservation ($50 per pax)
2) there’s a dining time limit of 90 mins for a party of 4 or less

First time visiting after researching so many steak places for our weekend in Melbourne. Casual atmosphere, prompt service and friendly staff. The meat was cooked to our requests and the sides were generous.

Definitely not worth the price! We ordered two medium-rare steaks and a side of mushroom, however, the steaks came out raw (cold and bloody). Poor quality meat with bland sauces really dissapointed us.
