The guiding principle behind Ranfurlie's design philosophy is to transform areas other than the central fairway into preferred vantage points for accessing the green. If you do not pay close attention to the course map, there are many places where a tee shot toward the center of the fairway is not advantageous for a second shot. Ranfurlie's terrain is open spaces carefully decorated with native eucalyptus trees, blending into the space the course occupies as the trees continue to grow and mature. ㅇCourse composition and characteristics
Note from designer Mike Clayton “If there is one principle behind the course, it is that the most difficult parts of the green are best approached from the edge of the fairway, not the center. (Source: Lanfury Golf Club website)

The green speed was reasonably fast at around 2.7 meters, and the green was in good condition, making putting fun.
It rained a lot the day before, so there was water in the bunker, so I dropped it in a place where there was no water and hit it, but the sand was hard like the ground.
The fairway is wide and there is a lot of undulation, so you need to choose your attack point well.
Carts must exit the cart road 30 to 50 meters from the starting point of the fairway and green. If an electric cart enters a prohibited area such as the rough or another hole, a warning message will appear on the screen.
With a warning, forward movement will not work and only reverse movement will be possible.

A great spot for a care-free hit on the range without too many steps or efforts. Rocked up around 5pm midweek and it was easy and quick to get a bucket of balls at the electronic dispenser. Picked a booth and enjoyed hitting into the sunset, along a well marked range with gradual slope and a lovely horizon outlook.

Came here to have a practice drive with a friend. Very serene range and not too crowded before noon on a Thursday. About $20 for 105 range balls. Gets crowded about noon as more people comes in. Kids and adults. Might be. Ice to have here for some coaching. 18holes course with membership if you want.
Coffee was pretty good at the club house cafe.

Played a few games in the summer time so far. Love the course layout. The fairways are in good condition, but the greens are not perfect, bumpy and slow. The green and bunkers need some more maintenance work.

Not a big golf guy but have been here multiple times and this place feels really luxurious. The bar is pretty cool for a drink and a snack.

One of the best driving ranges on the peninsula! The staff have always been great and the bar/ driving range facility is awesome. The only little downside is the snack menu when there. I have been a few times and always seem to miss out on the kitchen so can’t comment. But they only have packet chip and lollies and not a huge range of nibbles.

Used the practice facilities regularly for the last few years (3 - 4 times per week) but in recent months the service behind the bar has dropped off considerably so won’t be returning anytime soon.

Course was in really poor condition, especially the greens. Not great for the premium price tag.

Having certain members think they have the right to lecture you regarding carts, and having the course Marshall act like a knob puts a sour taste in your mouth. Would rather spend my money at a course like Lang Lang which is in much better condition and much friendlier.

I am a member here at Ranfurlie Golf Course, BEST VALUE GOLF MEMBERSHIP IN MELBOURNE, $499/yr for Lifestyle Membership, can play 7 days/wk after 3: 30pm. Includes insurance, able to get offical handicap etc.
DRIVING RANGE IS ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN. Open to Public all Day & Night to 9pm generally, 7 days a week, Drinks & Food available at request, 2 special rooms with package deals, hit as many balls as your group wants to hit in booked period.

Great lesson with Ben Bunny Highly recommended.
Driving range spaces are limited, still a good range, also has a lager room for hire to have nibbles and a few drinks while hitting balls with mates.

The course has a great layout and a heap of potential, I can see it being good when it's summer, in condition and running fast.

Not long. Fairways are pretty forgiving but need to pay attention to fairway bunkers occassionally. Course design is all about second shot in. Lots of greenside bunkering has the potential to protect some pretty tough pin positions and the greens have some serious contouring. Need a short game and to know how to putt.

Can see it getting quite interesting in the wind, especially with a lot of the tress still being immature and the course being quite open.

I liked the par 3s. Each set up to the eye well and encouraged a particular shot shape. Stress free pars required good tee shots.

. So I'm prepared to make some concessions for winter etc but I'm wondering if these guys are struggling due to covid lockdowns, a lack of membership and finances or for whatever other reason. Over all course condition was poor which was a shame. Daily house keeping stuff was good, it was more long term maintenance issues maybe or inherent drainage problems?

The fairways really were in very average condition. Extremely brown, patchy and soft. Very little grass, more like hitting of saturated straw mixed with solf wet mud. Turf interaction was pretty awful.

Green speed was ok but they were ridiculously soft and 'rough'. 3-4 days of nothing but clear sunny skies and still soaking wet. Soft spike marks everywhere, mud kinda oozing up through the grass, footprints leaving visible depressions. Was like they were big sponges, not draining at all and holding a heap of water. Over all impression was just very heavily trafficked. Rolls were average at best.

Consistency of bunkers was laughably non existent. Different types of sand used randomly (white talc, some heavier grey stuff. Couple had no sand at all but lots of rocks and seemed to be suffering from erosion issues.

I liked the rough! Hard to find and not overly long but it was thick and could be seriously punishing when you did.

I hadn't played here before. Like I said, lots of potential but they really do need to sort out some stuff out.

Good modern range with decent hitting space between the bays, good target greens to aim at, new balls and mats, and reasonable pricing.

Nice place in the SE of Melbourne, but there needs to be lights projected onto the field at night.

I came at 8: 30pm and in the fading light at dusk, you can't see a thing once you've hit your balls. MGA / Aces etc don't have this issue - lighting at night is perfect and you can see your ball the entire way.

Other than the lighting at night, a nice place to hit a few balls.

In terms of facilities, this club has it all for what you want or need in regards to practising, lessons and playing golf. By far the best range I've been to on the peninsula and surrounds. The staff are friendly and helpful and the course has its challenges for experienced or not golfers.

I would say it is the best value for money Driving range in SE Melbourne. Very nice and wide view on the range, which I consider very rare in the driving range, very good quality of the practice ball, nice restaurant, very welcoming staff. This might be our favourite golf escape…. And as a bonus a very big parking lot…. We enjoy our time there

If you're 1 inch into the rough you've lost your ball. Bunkers have been low on sand and can play like concrete bowls sometimes. But good layout, enjoyable holes (if you stay out the rough and bunkers). Pretty pricey if you don't take advantage of evening rates or play with a member.

Hit a few balls at the driving range. Facilities were clean and tidy. Prices are competitive and the range wasn't crazy busy.

Very disappointing! After coming to this range many times with my partner who is a member of this club, this range has become a disaster. From security guards managing the door, to staff not having a clue what is going on or informing us the ball machine is broken. However, 10 minutes later let people into the range who are not members. The standard of dress to enter the club has dropped dramatically. Ever since AMSTEL taking over this place has lost its beauty and standards. Adding on losing the amazing staff and coaches to other clubs. Now I see why the standards of this place have dropped drastically and disgusting. Will not be returning.
