Queenscliff General Store & Take Away

I was really eager to get to sit down and have a cup of coffee at this lovely quaint place which sits like a beautiful old-fashioned small town jewel on the street as you drive into Queenscliff. I had just finished writers circle and was still in a very creative frame of mind when I pulled off on the spur of the moment, reached for the anthology sitting on the passenger seat and walked into the building to enjoy a sit down coffee and half an hour of mindful reading. Although I realise the staff were only following protocol by asking me for my drivers' licence and my vaccinated check in details (which I had all ready and keen to produce on my mobile) but to my horror I realised that I had left my drivers licence in my wallet which was at home. I pay with my mobile. Well, to say I was disappointed was an understatement. I felt embarrassed as well and angry at myself. The staff seemed non-fussed and when I insisted on phoning my son to send a copy of my drivers licence to my on my mobile they said that would be fine. So they were following the rules and doing exactly what they were meant to which is completely understandable and I appreciate and respect that. It is just the way it made me feel that sits a bit heavy on my shoulder and it will take me a while to enter again. I guess it is because of the embarrassment I felt, nobody's fault but my own. Unfortunately I will associate it with the venue. I cannot over-emphasize how important it is to deliver these requests to patrons. Delivery of message is critical. It was very matter of fact and lacking that human touch. I guess that is what stood most out to me. Lack of human touch. A valuable lesson to remember. It is how we make people feel that they remember longest. And now, I'll end my long-winded review. I will re-review this once, I've actually sat down and enjoyed the hospitality of this place. But I can't see myself doing that soon.

Lovely corner general store, service quick and friendly. Peaceful music.

Semolina pudding was perfect, Orange GF CAKE very moist and both super delicious.

Fabulous menu. Great little cafe with very attentive staff & great chef. Terrible location out of the biusy main street & 10 mins to beach.

Super breakfast - the food is excellent and everyone is friendly and helpful. Great coffee game too. Definitely coming back soon to try lunch. Would be great if they got a few more umbrella for shade outside (bring a hat!)

The food was very good in particular the slow roasted Lamb shoulder. But sitting outdoors was blinding because it was very sunny outside, we ended up moving inside.the glare from the white tables and the lack of shade made it very bright.the service was very good and I would recommend this as a good place for good food.

Best eggs and avo on the coast! Super friendly staff and plenty of vegetarian options. Great prices too!

I keep coming back to enjoy the coffee, the choice and quality of the food, including some spectacular meals, the historic atmosphere with friendly staff. Looking forward to post-covid19 just to relax and enjoy the sunny open outlook.

Been picking up my regular order of Lrg Cap and 2 pieces of fruit toast with jam on average once a week for last couple of years, consistent and best I’ve had! My wife is Ceoliac, Gareth and his team understand the disease and when she travels with me he cooks her up a storm. Good work! Make sure there’s some left for me!

Nice waiting staff and the food was good and the hot choc whilst it needed to be richer, was passable.

We are from Melbourne and have come down for short getaway. The breakfast here is second to none, quality of food, presentation is perfection! The Avo N Toast and Rhubarb Semolina porridge was beautiful!

Really delicious breakfast selection & variety. Very cute and clean building. OK coffee. I'd love to come back and try the lunch menu too. Would recommend it to friends & family.

Excellent brunch spot. Brekkie burger delicious and coffee very good. Family friendly also. They have a kids menu which does the mac and cheese without egg.but then came out to see how many croquettes my son would need. Great attention to detail. Much appreciated.

Had amazing Mac&Cheese for brekkie. It was so delicious I still miss it. The portion size were great even the choco milkshake I had, it was the largest milkshake glass I ever had. The ambiance is quite friendly and relaxed.

Popped past for some takeaway brekkie this morning. Great coffee ️ the sit down menu looks amazing! Bit of a wait, but happily wait again. I’ll definitely be back
