The Queen Elizabeth Oval, or QEO as it is known locally, is another jewel in the crown at Bendigo. Hosting AFL football in the winter and cricket in the summer. It would have to be Bendigo’s premier oval. The ground was opened in 1897. A record crowd of 14000 attended in March 2005 to watch rivals Geelong V’s Essendon in a preseason game. This attendance bought the ground to 140% of its capacity. Well worth a visit just to see the pristine and well-kept ground and the redbrick grandstand built in 1901 to the design of J R Richardson.

Wow! This oval is absolutely stunning.
Having visited the Bendigo Art Gallery, we came across this oval as our car was parked nearby.
This would have to be one of the best preserved grandstands in Australia! Wonderfully preserved main gates too.
There wasn't an event on at the grounds, so it was terrific to just enjoy the oval and the architecture here.
Well done to those whose job it is to maintain this important venue! I imagine that Queen Elizabeth II would have indeed been proud to have such an impressive oval named in her honour.
Here are some photos.
When in Bendigo, do yourself a favour and come visit)

First time we have sat here during the kids new year fireworks. Why we ever sat anywhere besides here is beyond me. Such a great place, plenty of space. Perfect for firework viewing:) Parking was ok, we opted to park in the back steers with a short walk to and from the oval.

Not necessarily the oval, but white night Bendigo was held there in that area, nice for a good stroll around the park and oval

As far as ovals go it is quite nice. The grass is green and quite short. The seats are hard and uncomfortable. Just right for sports fans I guess. More toilets at the non main entry would be smart. Well, any toilets really.

Awesomely beautiful ground in #Bendigo with great facilities as well. And walking distance from #Bendigo CBD.

Beautiful old grandstand is a highlight.
