Preston Dermatology & Specialist Centre reviews
25 I visited Dr. Tim Rutherford for treating hyperpigmentation (scarring) and potential hidradenitis suppurativa. The nurse beforehand took a very brief history (not thorough), and when I brought up my concerns regarding scar treatment for melanated skin (I have medium-brown skin), they looked confused, even though it is a very valid concern that many people with darker skin have, and there is research around this (say, for example, in the USA).
When Dr. Tim Rutherford entered, it was an incredibly short physical examination, with few questions asked and the bare minimum of patient education. I was given adapalene gel and antibiotics. However, he did not take the time to explain the side effects (for example, I experienced bad nausea from taking the antibiotics), that the Differin adapalene gel was not on the PBS (I have a low income healthcare card), what skin care regime (including suncare) I should be doing, and what happens if my skin is too sensitive to the adapalene gel (which it was). With regard to further treatment, there was no indication of what treatments could be beneficial for skin scarring after we cleared the cystic acne, and the hidradenitis suppurativa was dismissed. This is not to say that his diagnosis was wrong, but there was no explanation or education around how to manage flare-ups, especially in the genital area, why it was cystic acne affecting those areas and not HS, and the examination was so rushed that I could not properly show the affected areas or explain the symptoms (and how it differed from the cystic acne on my face). In such a short 15-minute consultation, I was rushed to ask follow-up questions because so little was explained, including whether I should book a follow-up appointment or not. The only patient education I was given was an information booklet about oral isotretinoin (future treatment).
This initial 15-minute consultation cost me approximately $300, and it was not worth the money at all. I have been to other specialists who charge a similar or lower rate and have attended to my case with far more time, thoroughness, and patient education. My GP at the follow-up appointment did a better job of explaining important (and basic) details and answering my questions.
There is an unnecessary delay in sending the dermatologist report to my GP (sending via the post rather than emailing or faxing the report), which is not efficient.
I am also a transgender patient and noticed that the clinic does not have a policy or procedure for using gender-affirming language (for example, asking for pronouns or a preferred name). Neither the nurse nor the dermatologist asked about my past or future plans for HRT (on my referral letter, it has listed past HRT, current hormones I take, and that I have gender dysphoria) and how these treatments may affect my skin.
I do want to add though that the staff (the nurse, receptionists, and Dr. Tim Rutherford) were friendly and respectful. It seems like others on here have had good experiences; therefore, I hope this is a once-off. Unfortunately, at this stage, I will not return.
Paid like 300$ for them to look at my skin issues just for them to ignore like 4 of my issues and send me away with an adapalene cream that did nothing and just made things worse. How can i come back for another consulation when its like 300$ just for someone to look at me and ignore everything i say. Waste of money and the staff dont care about peoples well being.
Dr Sara De Menezes was very caring and thorough in helping mum with her condition. Highly recommend a visit if you are looking for exceptional, reliable service.
Thankyou to the team at Preston Dermatology Centre.
Tim was welcoming and thorough, and I felt very comfortable during my skin check.
Reception staff were very nice, and I would highly recommend Preston Dermatology & Specialist Centre to anyone needing their expertise
I haven’t been more impressed with the cleanliness and the loveliness of the staff at this place!
Dr Tim Rutherford is a very professional but down to earth dermatologist that has taken his time in explaining my condition and made sure I understood everything about my condition before I left!
I felt valued comfortable and reassured!
Thank you
Not very satisfied with my visit to see Dr. Sarah at Preston Dermatology & Specialist Centre. I feel that I was way overcharged for a 5min consultation that didn't really offer much support. End result I felt way overcharged and rushed: (
Absolute rip-off. This practice will charge you for their inability to diagnose and resolve issues they supposedly specialise in.
Went to see the dermatologist after struggling with a skin irritation issue that a GP was unable to resolve. Paid $265 for initial consult which is steep, but I was happy to pay to resolve the ongoing problem. Dermatologist recommended creams to use. The recommended creams, however, only made the issue worse. Had to go back a month later, and was charged again - this time $195 for a 10min consult.
Great place, very friendly staff.great hours, and very clean and modern facilities. Highly recommended
Very impressed that not only were all staff wearing facemasks, but all covered their noses, unlike some other places where the staff seemingly don't recognise that their noses are part of their respiratory system. Very efficient and helpful.
Highly recommended clinic where Dermatologist Sara De Menezes takes her time and listens to your concerns and is thorough in her services. A clean and modern building, waiting time was minimal.
Upon arrival I found the clinic to be clean and inviting. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Tim was very professional also. I had a wonderful experience. It was quick and efficient. Thanks Team!
Very professional and prompt customer service. Friendly and helpful staff to compliment the very best Specialists operating from this clinic. Very clean and inviting atmosphere. Mr. Tim Rutherford is an excellent surgeon who I would highly recommend.
The reception staff were very helpful, friendly, prompt and professional, as was the nurse and dermatologist (Tim Rutherford.) I was very pleased with my experience at this clinic and would highly recommend.
I had my first appointment with Dr Tim Rutherford today. I was diagnosed with rosacea 26 years ago and over the years, I have seen a few doctors and 2 other dermatologists. Around August 2021, I suffered terribly with severe burning, inflammation and redness on my face but most of all, my scalp. I thought my rosacea had reached the severe stage.
Dr Rutherford was very patient and thorough with his clinical and physical examination. He made a diagnosis of another skin condition and mild rosacea. I asked him about the new diagnosis. He took the time to explain to me. He is a great communicator and a good listener. I find him to be honest, knowledgeable and kind. Dr Rutherford has started me on a treatment regimen that I have confidence in. Emily at Reception and Sophia, Dr Rutherford's nurse were very helpful and courteous. I very highly recommend Dr Rutherford of Preston Dermatology.
Absolutely love that this clinic offers early morning appointments, it is so handy. Reception staff were lovely and welcoming and Dr Sara was super helpful in helping me move forward with my skin. Highly recommend.
Great experience. Highly professional and knowledgeable. Tim is a great communicator and I highly recommend his services.
I recently saw dr Tim for the first time, he’s extremely professional, kind and knowledgeable. He gave me a treatment for my Rosacea and I’m extremely grateful and happy with the progress. The clinic is very clean and spacious and the receptionists especially Mitee was extremely kind and helpful.
Thank you kindly,
Rita
A very competent, efficient and friendly place to visit. Dr Rutherford is by far my preferred skin specialist.
New Dermatology Centre, staffed by helpful and gracious Administration Staff. And led by leading dermatology Specialists.
Had a growth on my cheek which the Dr said was harmless and offered to freeze it off with liquid nitrogen. Nearly 2 weeks later and it looks great.
Very Happy…Thankyou…
