Poyntons Nursery and Garden Centre, Cafe & Homewares

The most beautiful nursery with elevated cafe overlooking Maribyrnong River. We were overwhelmed by the variety of plants and flowers, very clean and it’s obvious that staff take pride in their work. They have a large variety of Grevillea, and I found the one I’d been looking for. Got so distracted by the beauty surrounding me that I lost my phone. I called the nursery and they kept it safe for me to pick up. Thanks Darren! I also purchased a border collie dog statue that is incredibly life like and exactly resembles our real border collie. So rare to see this! Not only do they have an extensive range of plants, but also have a variety of homewares/garden accessories, which are quite unique. Highly recommend!

I think that I saw Pru and Trude working in the interior shop! Enquired about scented drawer liners. One of them brought me three different scents to look at. When I enquired about what the different scents were she agreed with my guess which was incorrect 2/3 times. I found an additional three different scents after she had shown me all available!
Was happy to spend over $200 but when they told me an outright lie about an apron that someone had just bought (the last one). They asserted that they couldn't remember the brand name and lied again when I asked the brand name of the apron one of them was wearing I decided to spend my money anywhere but there. It was curiosity that prompted my questions and not a desire to shop online. The reticence to share information and to tell bold-faced lies without missing a beat convinced me that I don't need to be spending my money with Pru and Trude. I can get my Flower Box reed diffuser in Puckle Street or direct from vendor in WA! This review does not include plants or nursery staff.

The plants and nursery staff are of a high quality, that's for certain.
I take your point though, perhaps it is time to retire the Interiors old-timers that have been around since the beginning.
I would have no doubt the shopkeepers would lie when asked about the service they offered. I did not ask for supplier. I asked for brand. And why not say we would prefer not to say instead of being cagey, evasive and dishonest.
Further, I was not shown the complete range of the product I was after; not a very professional shopkeeper, don't you agree?

Wonderful nursery and a cafe! Lots of plants and garden accessories. Lovely walkway leading up to the cafe. Cafe had good food and coffee. There is also a beautiful view onto the the river from the cafe. Indoor and outdoor covered seating. Friendly staff.

I called several nurseries to find a particular plant. Poyntons were the only business to call me back with information on what was in stock.

Wow, just wow. You’ll get lost with the options and ideas available at poyntons. This isn’t a quick in and out trip it’s a stay and have lunch trip!

If I had reviewed this place the two times I came, it would be an easy 5/5. But 3 years later, now that the plants I have bought have grown, it's dropped to a 1/5. Seriously. I thought the staff knew what they were doing!? !
I bought a bunch of yellow dwarf banksia birthday candle plants for my front garden and a mandarin tree for the back. The yellow dwarf banksia (supposed to grow 45cm high) is now 170cm tall with huge RED candlesticks. Pretty, yes - but huge, cutting out all our light and now needing to be pulled out - POYNTON'S FAULT. My mandarin tree out the back is a fricken Orange tree. Not mandarins. How can someone trust you? How can a customer to spend with ANY confidence? Maybe its your suppliers fault but years of sculpting gardens and we now have to pull most out and have a fruit tree for a fruit no one in the house really eats. Worse things have happened, yes. But i would never trust them for my landscaping needs. Buy some herbs and stop there. Would, NOT recommend.

Fabulous nursery. Reasonably priced. Amazing choice of plants as well as gifts. Good restaurant as well. All in all, good day out.

Very friendly staff. Helped me get the plants I needed for my backyard. They also provided useful suggestions on how to plant them and look after the plants.

Fantastic nursery but shocked to notice Roundup in the shop - killer of bees and good bugs. Thought this was an organic nursery.

Huge selection of plants. Plants are healthy and beautiful. Great collection of pots as well. The only problem is (for me), price is on the expensive side. So I'll stick to my Bunning.

It is a great place with helpful staff. I went and only needed to describe what I wanted (inside, low water usage, size, etc) to be directed to the perfect plant. The staff are also very knowledgeable and were able to recommend conditions for my plant such as watering times (average), fertiliser times and sunlight exposure.

I would definitely recommend Poynton's Nursery for neophyte and experienced gardeners alike. They have a wide variety of plants and even do gift wrapping. They also sell accessories such as bird fountains which I thought was pretty cool.

I plan to go again to buy my plant and I hope to receive the same good reception.
